We went home and did the iOS update and used the iPod for several days. That seemed to do the trick on the battery charging problem.
We went back a week later and asked them to go ahead with the glass cover repair. They said it would take about an hour, and they started immediately. We ran a few errands and went back -- they had it finished right on time. They put on a screen protector at our request. They also had ipod cases with more padding that what we had before, so we bought a new one for $20. The ipod has worked fine since then and the case is holding up very well.
While we were there, we also asked about iPad screen protectors. We bought one and they applied it at no extra charge.
As for the repair cost, we only did a little comparison shopping online. The more important comparison to us was the cost of a new iPod touch. The $70 repair cost seemed reasonable and we preferred to handle the repair locally. A month later we are very happy with the choice of going to iFixn'More.
