The renovation started with removing windows and a sliding glass door in the back of the home and replacing them with shorter windows so kitchen cabinets could fit underneath. The first thing we noticed is that sometimes the work style was messy. Leaving the insulating window foam on the window and it is still there. The caulking around the window has cracked two times since installation in less than a year. The wrong paint was used on the window trim and sills. One of the workers wanted to remove a prefinished piece of trim that was part of the window. When the crack was repaired, the prefinished window trim was sanded to exposed wood and was never repaired. Six weeks later the rest of the work began. When the kitchen was demolished, the temporary clamp on the water burst within 45 minutes after they left our home and caused damage to the living area below. While you know that mistakes happen, there was an inconsistent level of care throughout the project. At first, the owner was onsite with the crew. As time went on, he would only be on site 2 or 3 hours a day and the crew was not working well together. It became very clear that he was more concerned about his outside activity than this construction project. Because of the pandemic, we were all in the home while the work was being completed. What we witnessed was cringe worthy at times. Fighting between crew members and with the owner. I can't even remember how many times a crew member walked of the job and then return a few days later. There was definitely a lack of concern that work was being done correctly and a lot of the finishing work was sloppy and inconsistent. Work had to be redone more times than I can count. If only he realized that he could be much more efficient if he ensured it was done the right the first time. At times, I would hear him point it out to them, but he would not follow through to make sure the crew were doing it correctly. There were several seam issues in the drywall work and paint issues with drips left on the wall or not enough paint on the roller leaving roller marks. The ceiling and walls had to be repainted. I still have wall paint on the ceiling and ceiling paint on the walls. They never used the blue tape. The lines are messy. The main floor bathroom renovation was a disaster. This bathroom was completely gutted including the walls. The tile application was messy with the tile spacing uneven and bumpy. On top of that, the grout had to be fixed. When the second batch of grout was mixed, it was not mixed the same so the color was different. There were sections of the tile shower that need to be replaced. They also needed to grind all the grout out and re-grout. Thousands of dollars later, I have to remove all wall tile in the bathroom and start over. The cut ceramic tiles were chipped edges. I did the research and purchased a sanding stone for the diamond blade for his tile cutter. The second bathroom remodel was not as bad, but we still have issues. The niche had to be removed because it wasn't built correctly. The contractor left tape on my ceiling and trim that need to be sanded and repainted. I had to repurchase more than $1000 dollars in materials so his screwups could be fixed, not to mention $8,000 to fix the first floor bathroom and the cost to fix the second floor bathroom. The contractor appears to have the appropriate skills for the structural work, but my experience with the finishing work was not acceptable. I have photos and receipts to support this review. I don't want someone else to have this same experience.
Description of Work: Main Floor Renovation that included kitchen, laundry/mud room, open concept living/dining room, convert powder room to full bathroom and remodel second floor bathroom
