The work was done phenomenally well. DJ Cross completely restored the fireplace to excellent working order, including installing a new liner and top-sealing damper, insulating the flue system, and performing masonry repairs to portions of the chimney above the roof line. In fact, they came to help show me how to set the wood and light the first fire of the season. The "draw" (the ability of the fireplace to draw smoke up the chimney) was terrific. They've since returned every year to clean and inspect the chimney. I have recommended them to every friend who has a fireplace!

We have no problem with them.

These people are downright crooks. Here is the story:

- DJ Cross was contracted 12/2014 to do a perfunctory chimney sweep/cleaning.

- Quote for this service was $189. 

- service was performed. Bill came within the week for $495

- When questioned about the bill, DJ Cross insisted a full scan had been ordered. It had not. No one would budge.

-  DJ Cross continued to harass for the money through phone calls emails and daily bills via USPS

- House was put on the market and bill was paid (3/16/2015) to make them go away and so at the very least we would know what we were dealing with when and if we got an offer.

- DJ Cross was contacted again for the Chimney report. We kept getting promises for a call back.

-4/21/2015 - after repeated attempts to get report to no avail, house went under contract.

-4/22/15 We outright demanded a report by EOB as we were required by law to disclose problems with the house

- DJ Cross finally sent the report which indicated a surprising amount of damage/improper previous installation.

- we had to continue to bug DJ for an estimate for the work so we would know what we were facing and they finally provided it after many, many inquiries. Estimate was for more than $13K

- Obviously this called for a second opinion.

- Another, far more reputable company took a look at the report and pictures from the scan from DJ Cross . They compared them to the photos from their own scan and determined that they were not from the same house. Not only that, but the amount of damage was hardly as extensive and required about $1400 worth of repairs. ADDITIONALLY, this new company said that even if they did the work that DJC was proposing, their estimate would have been around $6K. This 2nd opinion company had no vested interest in contradicting DJ Cross. They could have easily corroborated and gotten the job.

Moral of this story - learn from my mistakes and stay far away from these crooks.

DJ Cross was recommended by my heating oil company, they are certified by the National Air Duct Association, my oil company rated them very high. I have been in my house 30 years and never had the ducts cleaned. The owner Dan showed up to give me an estimate, he then emailed me the estimate, he also mailed me a complete package detailing the system they use to clean the ducts.
Workers Bob & Joe showed up on time, they asked me if I had any questions before they start, I asked how they were going to do the job because I had no clue, and I was concerned about dust being blown out of the registers. Bob explained step by step of what they were going to do, and said they cover the registers to prevent dust escaping, boy was I glad to hear that.
Both Bob & Joe were very professional, they did a wonderful job, if I asked them a question of why they did that, they would explain the reason for it, like I said, they were nice guys.
A week later I receive a thank you card from Dan Cross thanking me for my business, how often do you see that, like I said professionals all the way.

Extremely clean and very professional. Have used DJ Cross several times, and am happy with their service.

The contractor arrived on time and was very professional. Inspection was performed from the house interior, and the contractor made sure to cover all surfaces so that nothing got dirty. The contractor brought proprietary equipment to inspect the chimney interior and explained all of the deficiencies as he performed the work. A detailed report was provided, along with several recommended alternatives. The prices were out of my budget at the time, so no repair work has been performed.

I called DJ Cross because they left a flyer on my door. Scheduling was easy and professional. One team of guys came to clean out the dryer vent and another team to inspect the chimney. The dryer vent seemed to go fine. The chimney sweeps said our chimeny was in disrepair and urgently needed a new liner (estimate about $3,000) or we could suffer from carbon monoxide poisoning. They also said the fireplace chimney took a strange turn and urgently needed a level II inspection. They said from what they saw it was in such bad shape it would likely need to be totally overhauled for several thousand dollars but they couldn't say for sure without doing the next inspection. They said not to use it and that it was a severe fire hazard in the meantime. We were pretty upset as we have only been in this house less than a year.
Before moving ahead with the work, we got a second opinion from Let There Be Light, which was highly reviewed on Angie's List. He said there was some masonry work that needed to be done on the exterior of the chimney but that it did not need a new liner. Nor did any work need to be done on the fireplace. He could easily have corroborated what they said and made a bunch of money, but was very honest instead. That's more than I can say for DJ Cross!

I had all of the air conditioning vents cleaned throught the house as well as the dryer vent. In fact the individual who cleaned the dryer vent replaced the entire vent, at no charge to me, as he did not like the way the dryer vent was put in by his company on a previouscleaning.
They arrived at the time set and go right to work. They were very professional and cleaned up after they had completed their work.
I would definitely recommend this comany to my family and friends.

They came when they promised. They laid down protection on the floors. When I came back in the evening there were all done and cleaned up.

I had D.J. cross home out to do an inspection/sweep of the 2 chimneys (4 flues) on our 100-year old house; we moved into the house 1 year ago, but have not used the fireplaces b/c we were not sure of the safety. 2 inspectors came (slightly late), visually looked at the 2 working fireplaces, the basement, and went on the roof. Ultimately, they were not able to tell me very much, other than to recommend a Level 2 inspection. They were going to clean out the flue where my (now removed) oil burner used to vent (hot water heater still does), which has visible soot, but decided not even to do that without a Level 2 inspection.
I did not hear from D.J. Cross to follow-up, so I finally called a few weeks later and had a detailed conversation with (I believe his name is Robert). Robert pulled my file, and looked at the photos the guys took on the first visit, and we talked about options, and set up an appointment for 11/8/12. On 11/8, I took off work for the morning - but no one from D.J. Cross showed up; when I called and spoke with Robert again, he said I was not on their schedule (at all, not just on that date). Although he apologized, and said he would get back to me by lunchtime that day and be sure to schedule one of their senior guys on the job ASAP, I literally NEVER heard back from D.J. Cross. Not. Professional. At. All.

They do the servicing and maintenance of our Chimney every year. They are very good and I like them. They are punctual and very professional. I would like to use them in future again.

Generally I’m happy with them, but it seems to me they look to get more work. Quite frankly my chimney was clean and they didn’t need to charge me as much. It doesn’t seem that they are always looking out for me and my best interest.

DJ Cross was very responsive in coming in for an estimate and the estimate arrived on time. The two workers, Bob and Rob arrived 45 minutes later than expected, but the work was performed promptly and carefully, so as not to either damage the lawn or bring dirt into the house. The estimate and final bill, however, were somewhat confusing. The estimate was with one sheet of paper that covered the larger part of the work and a second, small one for the capping. Only the larger one had space for signatures and required mailing back with a deposit, thus creating an impression that the sum cited was the total.

I have used them for years and they have always been relyable, punctual and professional. I have not shopped around (yet) so I cannot compare price. They have recommended upgrades and services that I don't believe are necessary, although the chimney caps were a big improvement and were done with the same professionalism as their cleaning services

They were fine and I was generally pleased. My overall experience with them was average. I am not sure how good their price was because I did not shop around enough.

Our chimney needed work and I called several chimney specialists. DJ Cross was very responsive and provided an estimate which was lower than the others. We scheduled a time about a month in advance. The workers showed up on time, were very professional, and did their job. They cleaned up well and explained to us exactly what they did. Overall, I was very pleased with the experience and would use them again for any chimney related issues.

I was pleased with their work, the job was well done. They were a bit expensive, but they had all the certifications.
