He also hired "day" labor, which I asked him not to return with. The guy was gross and disgusting (the day laborer) and was swearing on the phone outside where my neighbors have kids. I highly suggested he never hire day laborers again.
So 3 weeks later called him up wanted him to come back. Told him black smoke was coming out of chimney
and water heater not working properly.
He informed us that the the burner needed cleaned and he didn't do that. I think he should have made us aware that it needed
cleaned and didn't.
"I replaced a handrail on the front porch of their daughter's home and a storm door. I also replaced a dryer vent inside a wall and repaired a broken corner of their concrete porch. That was their original contract. I wasn't able to secure a section of the handrail due to a weak step, I secured it but it was not straight. It was corrected (secured and straighten) the next day. The storm door had a slightly oversized hole at the handle. I asked the owner how she would like it corrected, I offered to replace it or repair it and she agreeded to a plate behind the handle. I also informed them that due to a narrow place and the tight fit of the back door and the storm door that the window at the top of of the door needed to be opened slightly to vent the trapped air when the door closes or it would require a light push. The door closed properly when it closed before the main door. Somebody other than me then proceeded to try to "fix" the door on their own by "making all the necessary "adjustments". When I arrived and after completing the job, I was then told to do it over. They would not agree to the repairs that were made, would not pay for "any" work that was done, would not pay for the extra work (topping evergreen trees now growing in their gutter or the repair to the siding on the second floor, which was not in the original contract. As far was the "gouge" in the driveway (measuring 2 inches wide, 4 inches long and about 1 inch deep) I repaired it with black top. I can only say that I glad that I received a material deposit for the railing, or I would have been paying them to work on their home. Materials cost 410.00 Labor was free. Their suggestion was for me to replace the door and not charge for any installation. I decided not to return."
