Rust Handyman Services

About us

My business is a sole proprietorship;(I do all the work). No subcontractors. My primary service is painting; which I've done since the late 70's. I use my SS number to file my business returns, therefore, checks can be written to my name. I don't charge tax, therefore, I don't require licensing. Trip charges (if any) are nominal & vary according to miles traveled to a particular jobsite. They are incorporated into the final cost. Estimates are free. Estimates are meant to give the customer a "ballpark" figure. Sometimes they could increase during the course of the job if the jobscope involves matters that were unforseen, as in wallpaper removal. Sometimes it goes expediently and sometimes it is labor intensive. My job is to give you the results that you want at the best possible cost to you. Angie's List customers can choose either a 10% discount on labor or a free service call for something; i.e. a leaky toilet or dog needs attention, you need groceries delivered, or you need taken to the doctor's office & picked-up, snow shoveling, etc. Depends on the size of the initial job. Fun,unique details may include that, on occasion,I may bring out cookies for my customers that my mother in law (who lives with us) baked. Or, I may sing during my work (as I'm in a Catholic choir). I think that's fun; at least it helps me get thru the day. Important details include being clean & respectful of one's property. That's my goal & intention, as if it were my own home. I'm not sure if that's considered "boastful language", but, it is an important detail with my business. References are available upon request.

We use Mike for our business as he is always willing to stop out as soon as he possibly can. He always gets the job done right, no matter what we ask of him and is always fair and reasonable in his prices. Mike also always has a positive attitude and we enjoy working with him.

Great job from start to finish. Mike kept in touch over the course of a couple weeks when first he then I were on vacation. He kept me updated with his schedule and expectation of when he could do the work. His work product is excellent, he really does take time to do a really nice job, I am very happy with the result. His price is quite reasonable too, and better than most of the other quotes I received.

Last Summer, I called a few places to have my pool deck stained, as it was 2 years old and the pressure treated wood had turned considerably greyer than when the deck was new.
Mike was referred to me by a co-worker of mine. He lives in the same area as I do. I asked Mike to come over and provide an estimate for my job.
The initial estimate cost was $825 (which included power wash and 2 gallons of stain as well as Labor), and I figured that that was a great price at almost half the price of my next lowest estimate. I agreed to have Mike begin work on my deck.
He started my job when he said he would, even though he had other jobs going on at the same time as mine. The first day, he power-washed half of my deck. I saw the difference in the wood immediately. He came back the following day to finish power washing the other half of the deck.
We waited about a week, and Mike came back. This gave the wood the opportunity to "dry out" to the point where it would be able to accept stain for the first time.
My wife and I picked Behr Natural Number 500 Deck Stain to use on our deck. Mike even went to Home Depot to buy 2 gallons, per the initial quote. Mike began getting to work. As the job progressed, it became clear that the first 2 gallons were not enough for the job. Mike had to make 3 more trips to Home Depot to pick up an additional 5 gallons of stain (7 in total). He applied 2 total coats of stain to the deck boards and railings and 1 thick coat on the spindles, rolling on and back brushing my entire deck... BY HAND.
In total, the job took Mike about 40 hours worth of work by himself. If I am able to provide pictures with this review, I can prove his work is spectacular.  After all of his additional work and extra special attention to detail, I decided to give him $1,050 for the work and $50 towards taking his wife out to dinner for working late on so many occasions... just to get my job done.
I should have paid him more. I know I would not have received the same level of service or quality of workmanship anywhere else.
If you have any painting or staining work, give Mike a call. You wont be sorry. I promise you.
