They were quick to respond, quoted a fair price, and finished the job on schedule. I was kept updated throughout as I live elsewhere, and the deck looks great. Would definitely hire again.

Excellent work. The deck was cleaned, sanded and painted with 3 coats of paint. They arrived on time, finished when they said they would finish. In addition there was a small issue after the job was complete and paid for which they returned and addressed promptly. Overall excellent work and service.

The job went very well. Bob Palermo (and his men as well) is a pro who came over, sized up our situation, sat down with us and explained what he and his crew would do. The weather was not cooperative and Bob's people came over and powerwashed the deck on a very cold, rainy and dreary day. That portion of the work could be performed in terrible weather and I appreciated the fact that they didn't let the weather slow them down with what could be done in less than optimal conditions. We had to wait a bit longer for the sanding and staining because of the horrible weather that we had until late April. Once a nice day finally arrived, Bob & his men came over and went right to work, sanding and staining the deck. They all worked very well together and had the majority of the job completed by the end of the day. Unfortunately, the weather went bad again and the finish of the job (touching up, cleaning up) had to wait. Bob showed up personally to finish the job when the weather warmed up again. We were very pleased with the results. We felt bad for Bob & his crew because their work depends on clear, dry weather and it is hard to schedule around that. But in the end all went well. I would recommend Advanced Deck to anyone needing deck maintenance done.

The decorations are professionally done and on time. He is very professional and responsive to our needs as clients. Bob uses LEDs so the electric power usage is very low. We get so many compliments from neighbors and complete strangers!

He arrived for the initial appointment on time and was right on time with any work done. He kept me informed when we found we needed a permit to do the work and he got the permit and arranged the inspections. His workers were polite and the work was outstanding . I would definitely recommend him.

Great!! Bob was professional and easy to work with, and Paul and Jason were punctual, hardworking, thorough, helpful and very friendly. Everything looks fantastic. I did not get other estimates for the work, so I have no perspective about the pricing. That's why I didn't give the pricing an "A".

He came out and had a portfolio when he gave me the estimate. They also gave me a guarantee for the work they did.

I first contacted the contractor in June, 2011. The owner, Bob, came to my home, described his multi-step restoration process and I provided him with a $500 security deposit to start the job in July or early August. I didn't hear from Bob for several weeks after I signed the agreement and called him to determine when the work would begin. Bob told me (when he returned my call) he would be coming to my home the following week - - - which was mid August. Bob's folks arrived (as he said) and began the cleaning process. His workers were polite, hard-working and respectful of my property. The contract dictated the payment terms which were a 25% security deposit, 50% after the cleaning process was done and then 25% upon completion. When I first discussed the project with Bob I thought he would reinforce the railing and/or other lose items during the restoration process. Additionally Bob said he would replace any boards that were bad or worn including post caps. I guess my expectations of reinforcement were different than Bob's because his workers used nails vs. screws to apply support and left gaps between the flat surfaces. When I pointed this out to Bob he told me the supports were supposed to be pleasing to the eye vs. fully functional. I was more concerned with the gaps between the braces ( he pointed out during the assessment) which was why I wanted the solution to begin with. Ultimately the braces did add stability but aren't the solution I wanted to correct this problem. Additionally, Bob's team didn't replace the post caps. Another troubling experience for me was that Bob and//or his team seemed to show up with little/no notice which was a bit troubling to me. Overall, they did a good job. The communication between the contractor and me wasn't ideal from my perspective. Also, I may have had different perspective of what they would do from a reinforcement perspective so I can't fully fault them for not doing what I thought they should do. To sum up, they do good work but you may need to stay in contact with them and set clear, written expectations (apart from the agreement) to ensure the job will be done based on your criteria.
Response from Advanced Deck Cleaning & Restoration Systems
"The customer is right. I did not call him for several weeks after the contract was signed as there was nothing else to discuss until the project was to be started, which was not until July-August. I informed the customer during our meeting that a July start date was possible, but not likely, as do the amount of bad weather we had up to that point, which has delayed my other projects scheduled before his. I told him if the weather improved and I could squeeze him in while I was in the area on another project I would, if not it would most likely be in August. I try to set clear expectations, time tables and as to what to expect from us as a company with my clients. I remind them that when I am not being a contractor, I am just like them when it comes to having to hire a contractor and understand the pitfalls that can be associated with it. We try not to be the stereotype but instead just the opposite. Communication is always key. I inform my clients that due to the volume of decks we do, the constant changing weather conditions, crew availability verses what the restoration phase your project is in, I may call at the last minute to let you know we can work on your project. Timing is everything and our window of opportunity to perform this type of work is limited. If I have a crew that is done with a job and there is still time left in that work day, I will try to get started on another project ASAP. My job is to balance out the restoration process taking into consideration all the associated variables to minimize your inconvenience. This is also why I inform my clients that they do not have to be present when we perform the work and if we have to move furniture etc because of the short notice, we will at no charge! We try to be autonomous and NOT interfere with our clients lives as much as possible. We feel you hired us for a reason and that is to take care of the job the way we agreed, so you can go about your life without having to worry about this. In reinforcing the customer's railing the reinforcement is now more pleasing to the eye than it was and is functional. We installed mitered braces to hide the gaps and shims left by the original builder while reinforcing the railing and support structure. Subsequently, there were a few new gaps caused by the original material being so far out of alignment and level the mitered braces did not all lay flush. I used galvanized coated spiral nails to attach the mitered braces as they have higher shear strength than do screws. Using nails in the customer's railing increased the safety of the railing whenever force is applied to it. Nailing is also more time consuming as all the nail holes are predrilled as not to split the wood. We did not replace any post caps as they were all restorable. By us restoring them versus replacing them, the customer saved an additional expense, as post cap replacement was not part of the agreement. I try to set the benchmark high when it comes to the operations of my company. Professionalism and quality are very important to me. Being in business for over 20 years has taught me a lot and I realize no one is perfect, everyone’s expectations and understanding of a project may vary and there are always 2 sides to a story. Thank you for your time in reviewing this and in advance to your consideration in calling upon us for service. Bob Palermo"

It went well, the project was finished for the price stated in the contract and was completed on time. The laborers who worked on the deck were very nice and knowledgeable.

"I am glad the member was pleased with the job. We aim to satisfy our clients. I see that she was only unhappy with the fact that we did not leave the extra boards for her. It is spelled out in our contract that all unused material is the property of ADCRS as we always send more material than is needed to account for color variances, miscuts etc. I buy all our materials in bulk. I send them to a jobsite the same way so we have more than enough material to finish the job and do not have to stop the job because we are short a piece. If a customer wants a piece or two just to have for referance we always provide them with one just as we do with deck stains / sealers."

We spoke to Bob Palermo (owner) at the Home Show and although they work primarily with decks, he felt they would be able to improve the appearance of our fence. He came out at our convenience and provided an estimate for cleaning, sanding and some repair work (we opted not to have the fence stained/sealed, another service they offer). The team was prompt, polite, efficient and responsive. They spent two days using their cleaning process (not just pressure washing) on the fence and it looks incredible and appears to be brand new. Amazing since it is over five years old and was never stained/sealed. They spent another full day sanding the fence, doing some repair work and replacing the popped nails with screws. Portions of the yards which border the fence are nicely landscaped and the team was careful to not damage any of the landscaping. We highly recommend ADC based on this experience and will use them again.
