It took them 4 months to remove a tank. I had to complain to the State to get them to take their tank away. They were flat out unprofessional all the way around. They were over priced and unprofessional. It took them 6 months to remove the tank. I cleaned the area up because they took so long that I had to clean it myself.

I was a customer for over 10 years after Amerigas acquired my previous propane supplier and transferred the account to Amerigas without my input.  I assumed all suppliers were pretty much the same and rolled with the punches, so to speak.  We have three propane tanks, and in 10 years they never figured out how to get all three tanks onto one invoice, much less fill all three tanks at the same time.  They repeatedly allowed our tanks to go dry.  Their billing was indecipherable.  Finally when one of our space heaters broke down, I called for service.  Their technician said he couldn't fix the heater, disconnected it, and told me Amerigas does not provide repairs and I was on my own.
That's what led me to my current supplier (Patriot Propane).  In the process of replacing the heater, I learned that in addition to hefty tank rental fees (hundreds of dollars per year), Amerigas was also charging exorbitant prices for their propane.  Since switching, I'm paying zero tank rental fees, and my current supplier is charging $2.99/gal. vs. $4.41/gal. for Amerigas.
Since I closed out the account they have missed appointments to pick up their tanks, and when they finally picked up two of three tanks they continued to charge annual tank rental fees, even though the tanks are no longer on our property.  They also referred the account to a collection agency, even though there's a credit balance.
Nice people when you talk to them on the phone, but a terrible, terrible company.

I have been using them for 15 years and I just switched companies because I had a horrendous experience. There is no communication and nobody responds. They rob you blind if you let them. I have a heated swimming pool that I do not use. It seems to be their procedure to change the tanks every so often. They changed the tanks, filled them and charged me $800 for the propane. I did not care whether they changed them or not and I did not want the propane in it. I called and told them to come and take the propane out of it. They told me they could not take it out because it was not safe. They said they would take the tanks out and bring empty ones. I told them to do that. Meanwhile I keep getting harangued for the price of the gas. This went on for 6 months. I finally told them I would pay for the price of the propane on the installment plan and they leave the propane in the tanks so they would not have to come and get them. I asked them to send me a notice of this so they would stop bothering me. They sent me the notice but that did not stop the haranguing notices. Then the tank got filled up for another $1,200. They overcharged me a great deal for the price of the gas so I stopped using Amerigas.

Amerigas failed to deliver propane as scheduled.  We begged them everyday for a period of 6 weeks to refill our propane.  After 2 weeks we ran out of gas and had no central heat for 4 weeks.  We called countless times a day for refill and had to use electric space heaters to heat our home.

I was given the "introductory customer" rate for the year, and the first fill was well-priced. But there was no index whatsoever for the prices used on all fills thereafter, and I was obligated to them for a full year.  Prices were much higher than competitors, and were arbitrarily set with no reference to market prices.  They can charge whatever they want on every fill.  I was also on "automatic replenishment" but twice I had to call them to ask for a fill, and fell to dangerously low levels (less than 10% remaining) during the very cold winter.  They also delivered a fill in June at a ridiculous rate over $4 per gallon (most providers were charging less than $2 per gallon at that time). I called to complain and they dropped the price, but never explained why the price was set so high to begin with.  For the winter of 2014/2015, I called to ask for their pre-buy price.  They are $3.75 per gallon, all other providers in this geographical area are charging less than $2.20 per gallon. I have no idea how Amerigas remains a viable business, nor why any consumers choose them as their supplier.

Consistently had problems getting them to deliver propane on time.  Set up for first delivery of morning (so I'd only miss 1/2 a day of work) and they'd never came on time, often arriving 3-4 hours late.  Numerous time I asked to speak with service manager, who was not helpful (nor apologetic).  Finally got another company who was responsive, and when they came they showed me that the hook up was not appropriate for the job (heated pool).  Now I know why my pool heater never worked efficiently.  This company has awful customer service, a manager who doesn't call back (and unhelpful when he did), and service which is sub-optimal.  A very frustrating experience.

It was $99 for the installation. After that, we just had to pay for the gas by the gallons. The price is excellent. They did a good job.

the subsequent tank removal that has been remarkably poorly managed. we have contacted the company over the course of three months at least 5 times for removal..several times by email; several phone calls to the assistant who claims to consult with the manager at the time. each time they agree to have a tech. remove the tank the following week. it has not happened. naturally, i am concerned that we will not be credited back for the remaining unused gas with this poor service record. the administration of this site is sorely lacking. it feels like there is a significant personnel problem no one should have to deal with as a customer.
