Roofing
I heard about Daniel's company from my aunt whose friend had had her roof re-shingled by Airworks Construction, an Amish company from the Punxy area. I went to look at some of his previous work (metal roofs & shingled roofs) & liked what I saw. I called the number I was given - and Daniel returned my call the next day; he was at my house the same day to give me estimates on installing an asphalt roof and on installing a metal roof. Daniel told me that he does much of his work in the Johnstown area.
I was pleased with his estimates - especially since the metal roof (which I preferred) would cost less than a shingled roof (due to not having to tear off the shingles & haul them away). After discussing the terms again, I sent him the signed estimate for a metal roof, my choice of color, and a check for half the cost & he put me on his schedule with the caveat that the weather would be the deciding factor on the actual day(s) my roof would get done. [For those who don't know: Installing a metal roof does not involve tearing off the old shingles, they can, therefore, work on a metal roof install even if it's raining - which meant that my roof could get done when they could not work on a traditional shingled roof.]
Three weeks after Daniel gave me his estimates, they got started on my roof. He had a crew of four men the first day and their driver, Frank. It rained that morning, but they got most of the main roof done (including the ridge vent) as well as the dormer roof and the flashing around the chimney before they left that day. Daniel and Andy returned the next day to finish the work.
I am pleased with their work - my roof looks great! They cleaned up the yard after they were done. They were all polite and professional. I have no hesitation in recommending their work.
The only disappointment I have with the metal roof is that I was hoping that I'd hear the sound of rain hitting the roof better than I do <sigh>.
