I think people have to understand Dan.  He is a quiet, good hearted person who knows paving.  it can be trying to wait for your job to be completed, but he does wait for the right conditions.  He's not going to just throw down some asphalt to make the client happy and then have it fall apart a few years later.  on my job, he had to come 4 times.  first he tore up the concrete and showed me just how mushy the soil was beneath it.  he poured base on it and said he could pave on it, but said it would not last as long as it would if he waited a week or two for it to firm up.
I waited and he was right.  initially every time I drove across the base it left tire ruts. within two weeks, I hardly saw tire marks.  he was correct about waiting.
then he came back and releveled and prepared the base and planned on paving the next day.  he got there the next day and although there was no forecast of rain, the sky was misting.  he discussed with me whether to go for it or not (if he started paving and it rained, the unlaid asphalt would have been ruined.  I asked him what he suggested.  he said wait till there is no chance of rain (understand, he was electing not to get paid today after he hauled all his equipment from PA to my house in MD.  one of his trucks takes 3 gallons/mile.  he had already spent a lot of money just getting to my house).
so the next day he came back and laid all the asphalt  in one day so I don't have any seams.   he did a great job.

I paid him on 08/12/2013. On 10/09/13 I called him to tell him that grass was growing through the asphalt. He said he would be out to see it in the next few days. I called him again on 10/15/13 and he responded that he would be out as soon as possible when he was caught up. I called again on 10/23/13 and it went to voicemail and I left a message to call me. I called again on 10/30/13 left another message. He did call back. He said he would get here as soon as possible and was very busy. I called him again on 12/31/13 and left a message that the weather was turning bad and would not be able to see what needed to be repaired. I did not call him again until 04/21/14 and left another message. I called again on 04/22/14 he said that he would come out as soon as possible. I called again on 05/14/14 and left a message; I called again on 05/19/14 and left a message. The last time I have called was on 06/06/14 and left a message. To date I have not heard back from the service provider and no repairs have been made to my driveway.

He was prompt with the estimate and showing up early.  We left him to do the work and he called when he was done.  The work was beautiful and still looks beautiful.  There was no pressure to get the work done by him.  It was a good price, lower than everyone else we called, but the workmanship was still very good.  We've gotten a lot of compliments from neighbors for his work.

Ken arrived within the specified time window to give me an estimate for seal-coating my driveway. He gave me a verbal quote (about 40% lower than another company recommended on Angie's List). When I called him back a few days later to schedule the job, he told me his crew would be in my area that day and could do it that same afternoon. I reconfirmed his verbal quote which he honored. I told him I was at work and wouldn't be able to have a check for him that day. He said he wasn't worried about it and would leave the invoice by the front door. I came home to a neatly trimmed and seal-coated driveway. Although the cracked areas of the driveway were coated twice, they still look cracked. However, the seal-coating did go to the bottom of the cracks which should keep the water out. If I were to do it again, I would have the cracks filled in prior to applying the seal-coating.

Reasonably priced, did a good job, very timely service and checked up afterwards.
