Tred very carefully before doing business with this company. Their actions speak louder than words. They use the law to their advantage. The truth means nothing to them.

I used JC heating after they were recommended by a realtor I dealt with.  The first time was checking on a valve at the oil tank. The cost was fine and the person and work performed was fine so I used them again. The second time was to clean the oil furance which I guess was performed adequately. The cost seemed high for the amount of time it took but I think it was typical for what oil companies charge. When I got back to the office to file away the paperwork I quickly looked it over and found that the $20 charge the technician was supposed to discount the work was not taken off. Only $5 of the $20 was.
The third job (same day) was replacing the oil line between my furnace and oil tank. I didn't think it needed to be replaced but relied on the technician since I needed to get the heat on and running in the house. Over $500 to replace a line and install a filter seemed like  a lot of money. On top of that I get a letter from the company with a sales pitch taken directly from the web site of my oil tank manufacturer about why I need to spend more money with JC heating to relace the oil pipes. It seems like they want to milk every last dollar from every customer and I get the impression it comes from the top. The work itself was performed adequately but over priced and lacking in some other areas.

"Dear [member name removed], just wanted to respond to your review. The biggest fact that you don't seem to understand that your oil tank is over 60 years old and coming to the end of its life and is in need of repair. Repairs are expensive in today's world. Our goal was to protect you and your family from a fire and or a oil spill from your oil tank. Thank you for your business. Look forward to serving you in the future. The staff of JC Heating"

They advised they could sell me a new heater for $6000 and install it on Monday.  It was a Friday in February and quite cold, so I didn't have much of a choice.  We struggled through the cold weekend and they installed the new heater 3 days later.  The whole "slam bam process" just left a bad taste in my mouth.  I no longer use them for service.
Response from JC Heating & Cooling
"From your review it is apparent that we did not do a good job on explaining the condition of your old heater, while the heater was running, the heat exchanger was crack and allowing carbon monoxide fumes to enter your home. The service man shut off your heater to prevent personal injury to your family and possible death. It is never pleasant to replace a expensive appliance that is not plan for. Thank you for you new heater purchase. The staff of JC Heating. Please feel free to call on us anytime."

Our heater broke and the technician came out within hours; promptly diagnosed the problem.  Besides broken parts, heater was leaking carbon monoxide.  Quote received same day and replacement heater ordered; installed two days later.  Staff was professional, courteous, explained everything - even showed us cracks in old heater core.  Cleaned up completely upon completion.  We are very pleased with the service received and would recommend this contractor to anyone.

The owner came to give us a bid, and he spent a great deal of time helping us to find the solution to a very complicated heating problem. He stopped by several times during the installation to check and see that things were being handled properly.  Our previous company had never given us the advice which the owner of JC Heating did.  He figured out a way to give us a system that suits our needs beautifully.  We had been with another larger company for over 40 years, and they never addressed our problem, but kept on patching things.  Now we have a system that works well for us, at last.
The installers were always on time, and called if they were going to be delayed.
They worked tirelessly and were always friendly and eager to take care of any suggestions or questions that we had. Everyone bent over backwards to make the installation a genuinely pleasant experience.
Even the secretary who answers the telephone is helpful, knowledgable and pleasant.
All of the people at JC Heating couldn't have been nicer to work with or more accomodating.  They met all of our expectations and more.

I found this company in the Yellow Pages and used them because they had emergency weekend service.  I realized sometime that morning that my heater would start to turn on and then just stop, like the blower fan was not engaging.  I called this company and one of their service people came out to diagnose the problem.  As soon as he got there he had me sign an invoice for the service call charge which I think was around $100.  He checked the heater and thought that the circuit board was bad.  He said they would need to order the part and that it would take a few days.  He did override the board so the blower would work - it ran 24 hours a day, regardless of whether the heat was on, but at least we weren't freezing!  Someone came back about 4 days later and replaced the board.  The heater was fixed, or so I thought!
Less than 30 days later, the blower stopped working again.  Again, it was a Saturday.  I called for service, explained that I had had their company replace the part and I thought it might have been faulty.  I was told that they only make emergency service calls on Saturdays to people who have service contracts with their company.  I explained to her that her company had done the work previously and I believed it was the part they installed was the problem.  She told me point blank that they would not come out on the weekend, and if I wanted to make an appointment to call back Monday.  I never did, and ended up with a different contractor who did come out immediately, and fixed the problem!  It was not the circuit board, it was the fan (maybe due to it running constantly for 6 days!).
I would never recommend this company and will never use them again!
Response from JC Heating & Cooling
"Sorry to disappoint you. From your review we responded to a not heat call and found a defective circuit board. The board was replaced and solved your no heat issues. From your review, you call 30 days later on a Saturday for a not heat call. That day we were book with emergency no heat call from our service agreement customer's that we guarantee 24 hour service and was unable to respond to your call in a timely manner. From your review a different company replaced the blower motor and that solved your current problem. Please note: motor's are build to run no stop and running a couple of days would not have damage the old motor. Again, Sorry that we had disappointed you. Please feel free to call on us again. We promise to work harder the next time. The staff of JC Heating"

I spent way more than I wanted to spend with JC Heating and Cooling, and I did not think they solved the problem. I found them in the phone book. The repairs that they did seemed to be OK quality.

Turns out, the A/C had a leak in the coils and all the coolant was gone. We stated that we had a warranty (a different firm, now out of business, installed in furnace and A/C) and we wanted the unit repaired not replaced.Turns out, there was an issue with the firm who did the original install and the distributor. I have to say that while it took a few weeks to work out, JC was able to get the manufacturer to partially honor the warranty and cover some of the labor of the repairs. On the day the repair was scheduled, the tech showed up just before 9 am and  started work. The trouble happened when he said he was going to leave the unit pressurized while he went for lunch to make sure there were no other leaks and that he was also waiting on parts. Another tech showed up at some point and worked on rebuilding the plenum. After an hour or two, I asked where the original tech was. The new tech had no idea. Just before 5 pm, the new tech packs ups to leave and tells me the office will call us tomorrow (a Saturday) to let us know when they would be coming back to finish the job. My husband looked at the work that was done and wasn't completely satisfied (duct hangers weren't re-installed, seams weren't sealed, trash was left all over our basement). And then no call on Saturday. Sometime late Monday morning, my husband gets a call at work telling him the tech was outside - great, but no one was home because no one called us to tell us when they were coming back. My husband expressed his displeasure with what had transpired on Friday So I had to leave work so the tech (a 3rd tech) could finish up inside once he was done outside. My husband also came home at lunch and pointed out where things needed to be fixed.
When the job was finally completely done, it was done correctly and the area around the furnace was cleaner than when they started, but it shouldn't have taken 3 techs 2 days over a weekend to complete the job. Since something they could not foresee may have happened with the original tech and we've used them before with no issues, we'll give them another chance.

"Thank you for the positive review you gave us. While we did have some problems with getting the right parts we needed for the job and it took a little longer the we expected. We think, every thing work out in the long run. Sorry for the lack on communication. We will work harder the next time. The staff of JC Heating."

Excellent analysis of our problems by experienced technician who examined our home and prepared the bid.  Great consistent followup until all parts were available and work could be scheduled.  Service technicians were experienced, clean & neat and very professional.  Job was completed with no problems.  Absolutely would recommend them.

They are a small good company, and they did okay with fixing the problem. They were responsive. I had spent $10,000 to have a new heater and a new oil tank installed in November 2010. I was upset that one of their employees had not installed the new thermostat correctly, which I only found out when the air conditioning guy came from the same company. My heater was not going on and off the way it should, and this was related to the problem I was having with the air conditioner. It would cycle for about 5 minutes and then go off. I talked with the air conditioner technician about the thermostat, and he told me that the heater had not been working properly. That was the only downside; most of the time, they do an okay job. I would use them again in the future if necessary.
