The had to reschedule due to inclement weather and I needed the work done before a party at my house and Joe committed to getting it done and he did. Very pleasant to work with and very nice guys on his team.

Before Lawnworks came to do their job, I had a dozen tree's of over 70 and 80 ft high removed expertly by CHIPS TREE SERVICE. I have reviewed them also in Angie's list. After the trees were down, the whole area, though treeless, was still a hole infested, shrubbery and vine infested area. Trees were regrowing everywhere all down the 50 yard sidelawn. Giant, imbedded rocks were lifted out of the turf..(that was a problem with the last landscaper a few yrs ago. Also reviewed in Angie's list---CMI). Will show you pics at the end.
The price started at 10 thou to clear out the entire 50 by 20 yard area, with seeding the area up till the end of the house, but then got a great price from Joe, (owner), so instead of seeding---we went with sod for the side yard---up until the end of the house, about half way up the side yard. Then the price offered was so good, I opted to add to the sodding. I decided to go another 20 yards by 20 yards, sideways, into the backyard. That is where the other 3 thou came from. I say all this---for a reason. That will come later in the review.
The crew was fantastic. They knew what they were doing and did it with total professionalism.
We now have an unbelievable side yard that draws ooh's and ahh's from the neighbors. The entire job, (trees and landscaping), has transformed the neighborhood.
Well.....after the sod was put down from that end of the house on down to the bottom end of that 50 yards, there was still going to be 25 yards of the side yard I thought I was going to have to develop. That, of course, was fine. Expected.
However----Lawnworks, just kept sodding. They continued to do almost the entire length of that 50 yard side lawn and then, what area was left, they chopped up and seeded. VERY good seed too---as you will see. Thanks to CHIPS and LAWNWORKS, we have a lawn to be admired. The difference is breathtaking. They even came back and did a free 1st cutting. AND----they did the entire lawn. Front and back and trimmed.
Not only would I recommend these guys again....but I'm already having them come back and do some decorative paving/cementing/concrete work on a crumbling trouble spot, under one of my decks. Once again----Joe gave me an incredible estimate. I'm always thinking I'm getting more for my money with Lawnworks.
Look for a review on that job, down the road.
They have impressed me. Thank you Steve DiSipio, (a fantastic landscaper in his own right--but this job was too big for Steve). He recommended Chips AND Lawnworks. After all my interviews and all the estimates these guys were more than I asked for.
More than I paid for---so I feel.

Dennis

PS---More pics of what the side lawn was like before the trees were felled and well before LAWNWORKS in in my review of CHIPS TREE SERVICE

They started working on my retaining wall, which was a lot of work. they had to dig, replace all rotten wood and put stone for proper drainage. I was very happy with the results. I then wanted the stone taken from my patio and steps and in it's place I wanted pavers. In between the job they were installing my new PVC fence which I ordered from the beginning. three sides came out fine until they got to the one side and from there everything went downhill. the post was not put in the same place as the posts they removed which made the entire side of the yard with a gap all the down the entire side of the yard. It was not even, so when the last side of fencing got put up, there was a hugh gap down the entire side. The owner called me out to say there was a problem. When asked to rectify the problem, he put rocks in to fill the gaps and additional fencing underneath the installing fencing to try to make it look presentable. When asked to fix it, he would not, and came up so many different excuses as to why it is the way it is. All I wanted is for it to be the way he said it would when he was hired for the job. Mistakes are made all the time, but he did not want to put the money out to have it fixed., His workers and subs are really excellent, and I would hire them again if they did not work for him. He also put all new  dirt and sod, and my yard has to be refilled in spots already because there are gaps.  either there was not sufficient  dirt put down or it was not tampered enough.. The entire side of my yard is horrible, with pieces of wood and stone to cover up the gaps. A good business man would have fixed his mistake, because he was at fault and he knows it. I will not say no more, but every time I look at my yard I get annoyed. I will not say anymore as to want continued after all this!

The Lawn Works provides great service. The company worked well with my small budget and created a small flower bed on the front of my house that made a huge difference to its appearance. The lawn that used to take my husband half a day to mow is now done in about 15 minutes and not a blade of grass is left on the sidewalk when the men are gone. The only challenge in working with the Hemphills is their communication. I had to reschedule the lawn cutting while the outside of my house was being painted-; the message never made it through and the mowers had to be sent away. The company asks new customers for a month's lawn mowing fees up front with the promise to credit the last month of the season's cutting. I'm still waiting for 3 cuttings credit from last summer. Also, last year I was asked once if the guys mowed on a certain date, they weren't sure! While the landscaping can't be beat, the business end of things seems to need some help. I'm willing to put up with the communication glitches for now as I don't think you can beat the landscaping/lawn care prices and service.

All in all, it was a very good experience. Joe Hemphill was very helpful with ideas for the wall and offered other design ideas. The workers were well mannered and the price was fair.

The work they did was of reasonably good quality. They did pull out some rosebushes, and two shrubs they planted died in weeks. But, their estimate was $2,520 + materials, for 500. They billed for $4,110 without providing everything in the estimate! I hired them in April, they did most of the work that month, and I paid them for that portion, which already was $500 over the estimate with the job not complete. I spent the next 2.5 MONTHS trying to get them to finish (replace the rotted wall of my shed and plant a final shrub, for which they left a gaping muddy hole in my yard). I wrote them off in July and figured I'd have to get someone else. Then in August, they showed up WITH NO WARNING I came home from work to find they'd been there. They fixed the shed, but they only filled up the hole for the shrub, trampling existing plants to death in the process. When I civilly complained and asked for receipts for materials, I was rudely threatened with legal action.
