We were going to go through them again for this recent water damage, since they did a decent job (and as a way to get them out to fix the flaws from the original wood floor installation), as well as their professionalism. We contacted them and they came out that day to inspect the damage. This was a few weeks ago, and we have still not received a call or an estimate to restore the small area around our dishwasher.
Unfortunately, it is very difficult to find contractors who will respond in a timely manner, do the job right, and charge a reasonable amount. We are currently going through another company and hope that they will be able to at least show up to do the job. Fingers crossed.
Allstate insurance put me in touch with Mellon Certified Restoration as one of their recommended emergency remediation agents in my vicinity. The Mellon crew arrived not long after I called.
One of the crew secured the door while the others removed and, (with my ok) disposed of sodden stuff from the basement, and arranged salvageable items neatly around the periphery. Through the use of wet/vac equipment, dehumidifiers and industrial strength fans left running for 3 days they were able to substantially dry out the basement. I was in touch with them while their equipment was left running in the basement and they came back regularly to check on it and take readings. My overall experience was great. They came promptly; and immediately and effectively addressed the problems There were 3 young men who were each pleasant and quite agreeable.
I can't give a price/cost because Mellon's billing apparently was directly with the insurance company.
This makes me very conflicted. This was the first project that I took on from an Angie's List well rated contractor that was a total bust. I explained the circumstances to the people at Mellon. My mother was here in Michigan to have hip surgery and recover. I was trying to do a "covert operation". My goal was to get her house mostly repaired so that when she returned home there would be little for her to do or worry about. The Mellon people assured me they understood my goals and that they could accomplish it. That is not how the project went. I remain very dissapointed.
And yes, I know one of the rules of reporting is to not include comments from family, but in this case I believe those comments are pertinent to this review.
"Mellon Certified Restoration recognizes that we were unable to meet our initially projected completion date. Our records indicate that several items, including roofing materials, were not available to match the customer's existing like kind & quality. Therefore, we were held to the mercy of our material suppliers and the special ordering process, which can be very tedious. We notified our customer of these cicumstances as well as making apologies for the unexpected delays. We made every possible effort to maintain continual productivity at the member's household, but at times, we could not proceed while the specific materials remained unavailable. It is however, encouraging to read in the comments that the member is adamant that the trades people were wonderful. In a follow-up phone conversation with the member and Mellon's Customer Care department at the conclusion of the job, she did agree that the workmanship and quality of the job was wonderful."
"Mellon Certified Restoration completed this job on January 20, 2012 and customer advised Mellon's Customer Care department on January 30, 2012 that he was indeed pleased with our services."
"It is truly unfortunate that we could not serve this customer at that given time. The request came in shortly following the disasters of Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee. We are glad to know that Member would consider calling us for her future needs."
"When it comes to mold remediation, pricing can vary from contractor to contractor. Because of the special measures we must take at Mellon Certified Restoration for both our customer's and our staff's well being, we sometimes can not compete with other contractors. But we have been excellent in providing this service to many past customers and will continue to be excellent to many future customers."
