My move was done in the busiest part of the move season cross country. Budget was a concern as was many valuable items. It was clear that even United Van Lines has problems getting good help relying heavily on contract help. It was also clear that even United and their affiliates are having a difficult time amongst the economy and summer vacations with staff. Hughes lived up to the price and did their best to be honest and make things right. I don’t believe anyone involved with my move didn’t try their best, but my move outcome was far less than I expected with breakage and stress. I am still digging out from the drop off. Bear in mind, I made every attempt to stimulate conversation and ensure specifics were understood by he vendor ahead of time including emphasizing that I wanted our mutual outcomes to be good. There was some stressful events and serious breakage. Caveat Emptor - even a venerable, old brand is encountering problems in the current world.

Hughes moved us on July 28th. The movers were friendly, and professional. It was also the hottest day of the year, but that didn’t slow them down. They took great care of all of our boxes, and furniture. I definitely recommend them for moving.

I’m extremely satisfied with the work Gary and Kyle did loading up my belongings for a cross-country move. They were very well organized and meticulous; carefully wrapping my furniture and ensuring that all my boxes were in good shape to endure the long trip. They made a usually stressful day a breeze and I’m so thankful. Highly recommend!

The Hughes team made this my smoothest move EVER. They were quick, efficient and also had an extraordinary good attitude, were extremely respectful and went the extra mile. They did not make one complaint the entire time. The foreman was incredible in his work ethic and attention to detail. I could not recommend Hughes more highly to anyone!

They appear to have done an excellent job on both ends of the move. I'm still unpacking, but so far, I've only encountered one small broken item. I was favorably impressed with the people who did the packing and loading of the truck in Philadelphia, and those who unloaded the truck in Iowa City. They were both professional and kind on pretty stressful days. Well done!

Excellent job with packing and loading! Especially with packing, Veronica and Tray did an awesome job of organizing and packing everything properly. Unpacking was very easy and we were able to do 80% of unpacking (3600 sqft home) on day 1 of the delivery!

I accepted their quote, and paid EXTRA for replacement insurance. Movers showed up on time, and completed the move. However, several items were damaged during the move, and other items were lost. I filed a claim for the lost and damaged items within 10 days after the move (I was told I had 90 days to do so), but my claim was denied, and my appeal of the denial also was denied. I have spent approximately $1,000.00 to repair damages and replace lost items.

Crew chief Art and his squad worked efficiently, cheerfully, and tirelessly to effect a smooth move. Many items of furniture were antiques, and they wrapped and secured them perfectly. On moving-in day, they reassembled all items that had been taken apart for shipment, including a plate a glass-tiered TV trolley; a king size bed frame; a double-wide dresser-and-mirror combination, and a massive 1960s era solid walnut dining table with chrome-coated steel base. Communications from Hughes / UVL was proactive and thorough throughout the process. Nothing was left to chance. Kudos!

They were not timely at all.  The truck was six (6) days late. It was supposed to be there on the 14th, but came on the 20th.  They broke a couple of things, but most places do, and I am waiting to see how they respond that.

Brian Hughes met with us to give the estimate.  He was very professional.  The estimate was right on.  The movers were also professional and worked non-stop for 3-5 hours.  They showed up on time at both locations.  No damage to furniture or boxes.  I had only one plastic container break apart during offload but that was because I overfilled it with books.  I would highly recommend Hughes Relocation for your moving needs.

The packers arrived on time and courteous. Not all boxes are unpacked, but only one item was damaged because it was not properly packed. Loaders were also on time and courteous. There were minor scratches on some furniture items, but nothing serious. A large screen TV was left on the van by mistake, but the driver located the item and arranged delivery.

During the load, could not fit everything into the truck. Good thing I rented a 10' box truck to haul things we didn't want the movers to handle. Was told by the coordinator that a tractor trailer would be used because the estimated weight was over 10,000 pounds and a straight truck could only handle 6 to 7,000 lbs. They came with a straight truck. They were "jamming" things into the truck, ran out of blankets so they used broken down boxes to protect things, was told all my electronics would be in plastic bins and wrapped (no bins) and had to literally "push" the doors closed so they could lock it.
The lead guy said that he would be able to fit everything in when they first came because I questioned him on having the straight truck. One of the two helpers was very nice, the other not so much.
The unload went OK. Amazingly nothing was damaged.

I called and left a message requesting an estimate to move my 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom condo into my fiancee's 3 bedroom town home. They never even returned my phone call.  I guess I wasn't worth their time but I still thought it was unprofessional and rude.
