Basement floor drain had a cap on it, which was why it wasn't draining! (Duh, but I'm a first-time homeowner.) However, b/c there had been a fair bit of water in the basement, George checked out the rest of the drainage system, including drainage to front of house, back entryway drain (which was slightly clogged), and he cleared the french drain at the base of the stairs. Left things a bit muddy, but it was raining again when he left.
