Bob Meyer is the "President and Principal Technician" of A-Plus Inspections & Environmental Testing. He was hired by the buyers of my house. He did two suspicious things. NIGHTIME INTRUSION. After the inspection, I was watching TV in the back of the house and heard a noise at the front door. As I approached, Meyer, flashlight in hand, was entering, having used the realtor's lockbox without knocking or ringing the doorbell. I protested, and he said he hadn't though there was anyone home but didn't introduce himself. He said he was looking for the 'check for the termite guy'. There was no such check in the house. There was no question of who he was ('A-Plus Inspections' on his shirt), but I later wondered whether he made a habit of entering homes that looked like no one was present, after he had inspected them and after dark. CONFLICT OF INTEREST. He insisted that the water pressure tank and associated fittings weren't functioning properly and needed to be replaced. (Not true. I just hadn't re-pressurized the tank recently). After being informed of my plumber's estimate for the upgrade which Meyer insisted was necessary, Meyer offered to install an over-sized tank for a little less money. He is a plumber, too, evidently. To placate the buyer and on my realtor's advice, I swallowed my indignation at this clear conflict of interest and paid Meyer $900 (at settlement) to do the work. On the settlement sheet, the check that was to be cut for the plumbing work was said to be made out to 'A-Plus Inspections', but the buyers' realtor made sure it was actually made out to 'Bob Meyer'; I guess that helps hide his conflict of interest from both the plumbers' licensing system and the home inspectors' certification system. Sellers and other homeowners should object to letting someone like this into their homes.
