My cat was very ill, suffering from last stages of kidney failure. Let me say that the vet tech was extremely professional and compassionate. She apologized several times for what turned out to be a fairly long wait. The vet came in and she was professional and seemed kind; however she made a comment about how the bad breath coming from my cat (kidney failure affects the teeth and gums and can cause very bad breath indeed) was likely to ruin her lunch. Probably just an attempt to lighten the situation, but inappropriate as I was clearly upset. This was a much loved pet that I had for over 13 years.
She suggested and I agreed that it would be the kindest thing to put down my cat. They had me sign a paper for "community" cremation and my cat was then let go.
Then I got the bill which I had expected to be around $100. "Community" cremation = $70 For cremating a small cat with several other animals? Seems high. Also, the euthanasia shot was $80, there was no sedation provided as the vet suggested, and I agreed, my cat was far enough gone he didn't need it. Over $200 seems outrageous to me for euthanization. Yesterday I was too upset and could barely talk when I left or I most certainly would have questioned it.
I would add that this is the first pet euthanization I have had in Pennsylvania, having moved here only a year ago. On the west coast where I lived most of my life, I have been through several euthanizations and the costs were never this high. Perhaps it is only what the traffic will bear. I am retired on social security, so this amount is extreme for me.
In the future, I will question about costs before making appointments for my pets.

We saw Dr. Pitt this time, which is why I thought it was worth another review. Dr. Jared Pitt is a great, easy-going guy who obviously loves working with animals. I really like this little veterinary office!
