Ok......so we thought, at first. We felt we picked a sales rep who presented himself with integrity, with our best interests in mind. We never got the impression that we would be running down a bunch of bunny trails AFTER the fence wood cured and the true look of the fence presented itself. We never thought that once they put up our fence, and they left, we would be a complete afterthought! Oh, but we were. And you will find out why by the end of my review. This is a company I will never recommend to another person...ever. Of course they were more than happy to take our money. The fence cost us $6,136.00. We were ill-advised by the sales rep, but that was only AFTER we talked to other people. Rather than the sales rep really focusing on the pros and cons of the various fence materials, he lackadaisically let us choose the material. He didn't strongly suggest one material over the other, though I wish he had; he was the expert, not us. I really felt ill-informed BUT, I'll take blame for that oversight. We had the fence installed in December 2016, but it took about 6 weeks for it to be scheduled. This could be a very standard time frame. Be prepared for that with any fence installer. Once the guys arrived, they worked steadily through the cold. We shared a common fence (which was our fence) with our neighbor. Our neighbor agreed to have his fence removed, and to allow our new fence be his fence line, as well. His fence was only tamped in with dirt, and very wobbly -- two men could just pull the fence panel out of the dirt with little effort. The request was to take his fence out, stack the sections in the back of his property, and replace his with ours. To my horror, the two guys who took our neighbor's stretch of fence down did not pull the sections out of the ground they SAWED them off! Problem #1 -- These 2 guys sawed off perfectly GOOD REUSABLE SECTIONS OF FENCE, and simply destroyed them. Threw them in a pile in the back of the neighbor's property. End of story. Who does that??? These 2 guys did work vigilantly for 2 straight days. Dug 40 post holes. Planted them. Erected the horizontal 2x6's, hung 3 gates. Problem #2 - They were new guys to the job. I found that out from the guy who came back to check their work (very nice guy and the only one I trusted at that point). Problem #3 - They made a lot of little mistakes and 3 big mistake. The little mistake included adding unnecessary face boards on gate posts, mishanging hinges (screws did not go into the posts), warped gate door, and right angles did not match up. Big mistakes - The gates were erected to be too heavy, and they are beginning to drop. Next - There were no cross board supports added to the backs of the fence sections. The horizontal boards are bowing. Third - Overall workmanship is sloppy. I/we are thoroughly disgusted with this company. Words cannot express how upset and bitter we are about them. We called Millcreek SIX...again, SIX times for someone to come out and look and matters of concerns. We were just ill to see how the fence looked once it dried out. We wanted to see if they would honor their (lack of) workmanship and repair some of the larger issues.......................yeah, right! NOT! Their business card motto says this (ohhhhhh, the irony): "The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the joy of low prices is forgotten." Yes, the bitterness of poor quality. The sales rep came out on what we decided would be the last time we would call them to fix what needed fixin'. 8 months had passed and the fence was most likely in its final drying stages. We wanted him to tell us what could be done with the final project. I was forthright and told him I was not happy with the fence, that did not seem to faze him. Instead he gave us a quote for some additional things we needed to have done, forgot to account for the things that HAD to be done to bring the fence up to par. End of story? Well, no. We are hiring ANOTHER fence company to FIX what we do not trust Millcreek to do. I will never use Millcreek again. Maybe they are great at installing other fence materials; I wouldn't know, and I don't care to know. I have had it with this company! I have lost all trust in them. It is a sad day when you spend that much money on something and then have to dish out MORE money to fix something that should have been done correctly to begin with! I did not feel like they backed there work. Should we have been more informed, I'd felt better about the decision we made. As of yesterday, I had another fencing company come in and look at the gates and the overall fence quality. She suggested we reconsider a lighter gate (aluminum backing with a wooden exterior; the current gates were far too heavy), an immediate exterior paint stain to preserve the wood for longevity's sake (she said the fence will last about 7 years without it -- Millcreek NEVER told us that and said we'd get about 15 years out of it), I said we had 3 post caps to pick from and she said that there are hundred's to pick from (so I was mislead there, too), and so on and so forth. In about 2-3 weeks we will have a better looking fence from a company that comes with much better reviews than the ones I have read about Millcreek here on Angie's List. It's sad to me that I have to spend my times sharing a poor review on a business when I would much rather spend my time writing a great review! I hope at least one person heeds my warning and doesn't have to go through the headaches we have gone through over the past 10 months! Millcreek, I am extremely disappointed in you. I am most disappointed that you do not back your work. This is poor workmanship at it's finest.
