Heat Pump - Install or Replace
Took a month to get an appointment to install. Then, with less than 24-hours' notice in the middle of a heat wave, they delayed an additional week over inaccurate measurements and staff miscommunication. Work was completed, invoice paid-in-full. Ten days later, they contacted me saying they made a mistake and require an additional payment of more than 20% of the original invoice. I recommend hiring someone who does things right the first time.

"First- I agree we dropped the ball with paperwork and start of the job- As the owner I am addressing that with my staff- Your review is very misleading- almost not honest- you knew the price of the work and can only assume you thought our office would not catch- The sales staff provided you with multi options of efficiency levels- When the technician provided you with the invoice, they selected the wrong price off the contract paperwork- (you knew you selected the higher efficiency unit and agreed upon the price that was on the contract) - Our office while registering the equipment caught the incorrect billing and the sales staff contacted you immediately- you agreed that you owed the difference and said you would have a check ready for us- Which we have not received as of today! This company was built on integrity and value -since 1933- I would not allow anyone of my employees to jeopardize our reputation and I would never allow for a customer to get a price change that was not quoted prior- We have record of your approval for the cost of the installation - We invoiced you that amount not one cent more!"

Was absolutely very impressed with Frank Comp our technician. He was on time with our appointment window. He explained everything to us and did a very proffesional job. He had to replace some piping and shut off valves and did a outstanding job. Highly recommended.

"Thank you for the response- In addition to the repairs that the technician performed, there was an addition of club agreement purchased. Our technicians provide upfront pricing before performing the work, that the homeowner has to approve before we do the work? If any of this is incorrect- or did not happen- please contact the office- While we know price is a factor, we also look at quality of materials and workmanship. Thank you"

Had a young worker come to redo the plumbing under the kitchen sink after a remodel. While he did reconnect the pipes, he told us that we could no longer use a garbage disposal, even if we were to buy a compact version, due to the new sink being deeper than the prior model. We found that this was untrue, and a compact garbage disposal fit in there fine. When we got home, we had no lights. He had connected the black wire for the old garbage disposal to ground and tripped out our electrical. My husband does electrical work and was able to fix it. The cupboard under the sink was left with all of his debris, and the spray attachment wasn’t weighted properly and was hanging loose from the faucet. It was fixed the next day by another tech. They charged us just under $300 for that, and when I called back to have them install the garbage disposal that they said they couldn’t install, they wanted to charge me another almost $200. No thank you! The only reason I’m giving them a D, is because they did come out the next day to look at the issues. They, unfortunately, weren’t resolved to our satisfaction regarding the garbage disposal.

Contacted EH GOCHNAUER & SONS. INC WORK PERFORMED Old brittle Shower arm broke in the wall when trying to remove. Attached an extractor” to remove broken piece. Installed new arm & tested. Cost: $84 for service fee and $150.83. Total cost: $234.83 So another plumbing company the day prior assessed the same problem and wanted to charge me $1048.00 to fix my leak. EH GOCHNAUER & SONS. INC was able to repaiR AND replace my plumbing issue for a lot less.

Got three quotes from local HVAC providers. Gochnauer's quote had fewer "bells and whistles" (ie, one other provider included a new WiFi-enabled thermostat in their proposal; Gochnauer's did not feel it necessary to replace our existing thermostat) but also came in the lowest. The estimate process was matter of fact and efficient, which we appreciated. Unlike other some other providers who provided estimates, we did not sense they were trying to upsell us. One provider didn't like that our existing heat exchanger (the outside blower) was installed on a raised wooden platform and wanted to instead put it on the ground, on some sort of concrete pad. Personally I like the idea of keeping it well off the ground, so it's not buried in wet snow everytime we have a bad winter storm. Gochnauers' didn't have any issues with installing the new unit on our raised platform. The new system was installed within 2 days of the quote. That was a couple of months ago, no problems to report at this time.

Situation: My wife and I are in Florida for the winter with our home water turned off and set up for wintertime non-residence.  We have done this for the past few years, no problem.  Our daughter needed to use our house.  When she turned the water on, there was a major leak in our laundry room that basically flooded the downstairs.  Being a strong do-it-yourselfer, I had limited prior experience hiring a plumber.  Based on Angie's list reviews, their listing that offered 24hr. emergency service, and past experience with a friend who was a Gochnauer tech (now retired),  I called them.  
The on-call tech (Chris) returned my call promptly and got to our house in 45 minutes.  He did a great job communicating with me by phone and working with our daughter on-site.  He got water service restored in an hour.  Remember - this was a Saturday night!  
The root cause turned out to be a corroded/failed copper joint behind the laundry tub - nothing to do with my wintertime home setup.  Simply coincidence (and probably the pressure surges by turning the water off and on) that this joint failed when it did.
To summarize - I am thrilled with the service from Gochnauers.  I will use them again.

Gochnauer and Sons is a very trustworthy company which provides excellent quality work.  The professionals are well trained, experienced, and know what they are doing.  They do not try to sell you anything.  They fix the problem.
Gochnauer also provides HVAC services.

They are our plumber since we moved to this house and that is around 30 years now. They man that came to my home for work just retired recently. They remember you as a customer, they try very hard to come out as soon as they can or explain something on phone if there is  is an emergency. They give good advice.

They never ran new electrical wires to the outside unit (they cut corners). The a/c did not work after two visits in two weeks.  I called them out on a weekend.  They wanted to charge us for the overtime--even though it was under warranty and the operator never mentioned a fee.  We were going to use them with for a new outside unit (compressor) and they even gave us a quote, however, after they insisted we pay them for this work we went with another area a/c company.  Oh, and we never paid them for that weekend visit and they never tried to come after us for the amount.  I cannot believe a company would worry about a $400 visit and lose out on $5000 worth of business--not very good business sense or customer service.  They will under-quote everyone, but you'll be sorry with their follow-up service.
