He was on the job intermitently. He would get his guys started and then leave the job. I believe 3 different times his men didn't have the tools to do the job and had to borrow mine. He misrepresented what he said he could do and failed to do what he said he would do. He substituted materials without permission (the floor joists were supposed to be Fir, but he put in Spruce). He also painted over burnt materials on purpose. He decided on his own not to replace all the burnt wood and subflooring. His remarks to us was that he can leave 20% of the burnt wood and still satisfy regulations, but that's not what the contract said or what we agreed to, it was unacceptable. Not to mention that the 20% he left was the worst of the burnt wood. And what was a real slap in the face was that he revised the contract to be paid more for this lack of work. He has now put a lien on our home for work he didn't do and we are involved in litigation with him. He's asking for his 2nd payment and part of the 3rd payment for work he hasn't even done. We have to prove this in court which means we have to leave our house unfinished until this is resolved. That was the last straw. It's one thing to say things didn't work out and go your seperate ways but to have the thorn in your side for this long is just unacceptable.
Description of Work: I had a fire in my home. I hired him to rip out all the burnt wood, damaged sheetrock, subjoists and subfloor as well as kitchen floor, replace the wall in our bathroom, put up new sheetrock, flooring (tile and wood) as well as paint.
