Not well. Not only did they over charge us for cleaning (each year has been approximately) I was informed when asking the technician the cost to clean, he stated no more than $75.I also had a thermos coupler to have him use and he stated he would just put his on. We received a bill for $125.00 and it is February, and now we received another bill advising us (after we paid) we need to pay a late fee. I trusted this company for the past four years and will not go back to them ever again as they broke our trust. Also, we were going to give them business for a new boiler. Not only did the sales person not get back with us, the salesperson kept trying to up sell us. Our perception was that this salesperson believe we weren't knowledgeable and stated the cost would be at least $25,000 - $30,000. Little did he know we had quotes and the max. quote at $9,000.00. It appears things have changed at this company as thy were very trustworthy in past years. Well, they lost us as a return client and will never go back to them again. We will also make sure to tell as many people we can to stay away from this company.

Replaced and upgraded my furnace, AC, WH and installed a dehumidifier and programmable thermostat (WIFI). Very competitive pricing, quality equipment and a long-standing reputation in town was why I chose them. The installers were very experienced and took their time to ensure the job was done correctly and the equipment placed in the appropriate locations so they would operate the most efficiently (instead of the easier way of simply re-installing them in the less-than-ideal original location.) They kept me informed of their progress and made sure any changes in the plan/locations were okay with me. Job took several days: they showed up on time, were very careful, left a neat site every day and ensured the final touches (caulking, sealants, cleanup) were done well. Before leaving they showed me how to operate and maintain everything, plus how the thermostat would interact with the equipment. Very happy with the install and feel it was money well spent. They also have several financing plans available and told me which energy rebates (federal and West Penn Electric) would apply. I would highly recommend Shafer's as being professional and trustworthy.

Even though we're in Pittsburgh, Jason and his team were willing to come from Kittanning to do the job.  Jason was recommended to me by my neighbor, who uses Shafer for everything at his farm house nearer to their main office.  Jason came out himself for the estimate and went over all the details with me, asked a lot of questions to make sure he knew exactly where we wanted the units mounted, the lines run, and the outdoor unit mounted.  It was a lot more complicated than I expected, and I appreciated him being so thorough.

We got exactly what we wanted.  The job took them parts of 3 days because weather prevented outdoor work one day.  The guys were very clean - they left our bedroom spotless after lots of dusty drilling through brick, which we really appreciated.  They even put our bed and all the furniture back where it was, not something we asked or expected them to do.

The units are so great. We use them to supplement our boiler system because our MBR and family room were always too cold, and the rest of the house was too hot. These mini-splits are great - they heat and cool.  I can't recommend them enough!

the old A/C/2 went bad 8/9/14 Shafers came 8/10/14 looked at unit determined it was bad . Had estimate 8/11/14. The new unit installed 8/15/14. All went well . The crew arrived at 8 am and job completed 2 pm. I will use again when time for new furnice

I wondered how it would go, just because I saw a negative review on here... but I couldn't have been more pleased!!! The price was a few hundred less than my other estimates, and the service was impeccable. I couldn't have asked for better, more professional service! From the office staff answering my concerns, to the owners actually coming to my home to give a personalized estimate. I have had many friends use Shafer's and that is why I ignored the one bad review I saw and I am so so glad I did!

the secondary heat exchanger went out on my furnace this past April. Had one of their guys look at it and said the part would take no longer than a week. in the mean time, they were having credit issues with their supplier in Pittsburgh and couldn't get the parts because of it. Corey Shafer called back and said he couldn't get the part for more than a month because they were not available, which was a lie, I have a recorded message from Carrier that proves he lied about getting the parts. my family and I were without heat for a month. when my wife called him to find out about the status of the situation, he was very rude about it on the phone. if he would have been honest from the beginning, I would have had someone else repair my furnace, which I had to do anyway, and would not have been without heat. Regardless of what he says, I have the proof that he lied about the whole situation. The recorded phone message from Carrier proves it. The parts were available the whole time and he led me to believe otherwise. That is not a place where I will do business again.

UPDATE: The response Shafer's gave to the poor review I gave them is laughable. I spoke the truth, and once again, their best defense is a pack of lies. The parts WERE available and they WERE having credit issues. Why would a phone call from Carrier say otherwise. I still have the recorded message on my answering machine to prove it. For them to say that I was verbally abusive at times is an OUTRIGHT LIE. I still stand behind my review. I would never do business with this company again and I would never recommend them to anyone. BUYER BEWARE.

"We are aware of (removed member name) complaint. We regret that this part was unavailable through any of our vendors at the time of his need, however we did everything within our power to get the part as soon as possible. (we aren't sure where he obtained his information that this was due to a credit issue, because we haven't had any credit problems with our vendors and this in particular is an unfair assault on our business reputation) (removed member name) became verbally abusive at times with our staff, which we understood to be due to his level of frustration with the unavailability of this part, however whenever we offered to make restitution, he informed us that he had taken his business elsewhere. We would have been more than willing to compensate him for his inconvenience, but instead he has become vindictive and made every effort to damage our reputation. We never want to leave customers unsatisfied, so we remain willing to work with (removed member name), but at this point we are unsure what to do to please this particular customer."

aueWell I ask for a 90 plus furnace and I got that, but I also ask for a 16 seer heat pump/air conditioner and was told they sold equipment that meet that requirement and I wanted all new duck work that put out the amount of air flow that would make my home comfortable. He assured me that he could meet all those needs so he priced out the job and his quote was on par with the other quote I got, he was a few dollars more, but I knew him for many years and thought he would do what he said he would do so I went with him. In the middle of the job I got up for work one morning and looked out into the yard and saw a yellow tag from the heat pump that he just installed and on that heat pump it said 13 seer not the 16 seer that he had promised and said he sold. I ask him about what seer he installed and he said 16 seer I then showed him the tag from the equipment that he installed and he ask me where I got that and I told him I found it next to the unit on the ground. He said oh the 13 seer was as cheap to run as the 16 seer and that is not true. He tried to make excuses and his son showed up and said there company didn't sell 16 seer equipment and I asked them then why did you say you did and write up a agreement for a 16 seer heat pump? They had no answers, I was very angry at the time and we had heated words and I wanted to fire him on the spot but he said he would sue me for the work he had done, so I told him to finish the job and don't ever come back again. When the work was all done the duck work didn't work right, there is hardly any air coming out of the registers at all and he didn't run new duck work to the old registers and he was to move registers to the floor from the walls and he didnt even do that. The whole job was terrible and I would never tell anyone to have work done by him.

I was really satisfied with them and their work. I had a couple of estimates and they were like $500 less than that of the other ones. They came out in two days and had the furnace done. I even got a $50 chief's cafe card.
