$8,100
The first contract with John Chambers cost $5,500. There were several items on the list which I was told were finished. I paid him and he left. I then brought in family members to assess the work. The work that was done was of poor quality. The beam was repaired in a way that left it unstable, an area was missed of the painting, and a portion of the work was simply omitted. I asked John to come back. He did and he agreed to fix the items that were addressed in the first contract. I had my father instruct the contractor on how the work should properly be done. At this time, I realized that more work was needed on the property. I had damaged wood removed and the framing redone for a cost of $2,600. The work this time was still not acceptable upon completion. One of the studs was clearly sticking out from the rest and there were areas that boards needed to be added. I called John back for a third and final time. This time, the work was finally done. There were several times throughout the engagement when John did not show up when he had agreed to and this caused me varying degrees of inconvenience. John did offer a dumpster that saved me about $300 after I called him back the first time. The work overall quality of the work and prices were only ok.
