Dr. Richard Kaufer is the vet. They get “A+’s” all the way across the line. He’s been my vet for 30 something years. It was $38 for the office visit.

I would rate them highly for my overall experience with them. Some people don't like him because he is kind of brusque and abrupt, but he is great with the animals. He is a man of few words but he is so good with the animals. He is not a people person, rather more of an animal person, and that's really what it comes down to. I would never even look for another veterinarian.

I wasted my money. I was trying to find out what was wrong with my dog and I wasted my money buying medications. There was no resolution. I am the one to think about veterinarians. They want to take care of the animals but, A-No.1, the cost is so high. If I am taking a child to a pediatrician and I cannot get full paid insurance because they don't cover pre-existing conditions. I would not use them again in the future.

We recently moved to this area and were having trouble finding a Vet who would provide sound medical services while realizing that we are not able/willing to spend thousands on questionalbe services. In other words, what I call a good "country vet." If it isn't broken, don't try to fix it type of vet. After being to one vet who wanted me to spend over $1,000 on specialized testing on a 9 year old "barn cat," (who was acting fine, just had a small fatty type tumor) a neighbor recommended Dr. Kaufer. I have been very pleased with his services. We had a 16 year old dog who began to have seizures. After running some blood tests, Dr. Kauffer determined that the dog probably had a small brain tumor which was causing the seizures, and advised us that although we could undergo CAT scans, etc, at his age it would not make sense as there wasn't anything that could be done due to the dogs age. He prescribed medication to contorl the seizures, which gave us 3 more months of having our pup with us before he finally had to be put to sleep. Dr. Kauffer has helped trememdously with our other dog with neurological problems...suggesting ways to deal with it and trying a number of medications in an effort to give her more control. He kept in close contact with both these situations, wanting to be advised on how medications are working and how the dog is doing. Each time I called with an update, I would receive a response (via the assistants), which I really appreciated. His office staff is knowledgeable, helpful and kind. Dr. Kauffer appears to stay very much updated on the newest vetinary breakthroughs and is very knowledgeable. Overall, this is a great practice which recognizes that our pets are very important parts of our lives and families, but that they are also animals. If you wish to explore expensive means of keeping your animal alive, he's willing to do it, but he doesn't make you feel like a "bad owner" if you decide that it's beyond your means (which is what I have found at other vets). With all that said, if you're looking for a vet to hold your hand and be touchy/feely, Dr. Kaufer's manner may not appeal to you. But if you're looking for a good Vet who is totally commited to his patients...he's the one!
