It went great. Jim and his son came out and determined what needed to be done, gave us an estimate (that they stuck to), got right on it, did quality work, and charged a good price.

Very respectful. He got up on the very high roof to do the work/estimate on a Saturday or Sunday. Very nice person.

Amazing.  Jim was very flexible, came out on a Sunday since the weather is starting to get colder, was in and out and on point for price!  The job looks great and I couldnt be happier!  I also called him looking for help with another issue and his wife Ann gave me a recommendation.  They run a family business that is built on integrity and I couldnt be happier.

James (Jim) Harden is the owner of Harden's Improvements. I found him in the local newspaper as I was not yet a member of Angie's List. (But, I checked Angie's List before signing the contract!) He responded to my phone call the same day that I left a message for him. He came by within a few days to measure. A few days later I had a detailed written quote. The quote was less than five other contractors who had bid on the job. He was almost four thousand dollars less than three of the contractors! I told Jim that his number was low and that I would be willing to pay more because my insurance company was willing to pay more . He would have none of that and expressed pride in the fact that he often comes in lower than insurance company payouts. He also refused to take any money until the day that he started the job. His advice to me was to and quot;never give contractors money ahead of timeand quot;. Good advice from an honest man with integrity and good sense.
The job was executed very professionally. Jim and his crew were fast yet safe workers and were always respectful of myself and anyone on the property. The job site was always clean and there was no swearing. The job site radio played oldies. The finished job looks GREAT.
I have more roofs on my property on out-buildings. When it is time to replace them I will not hesitate to use Harden's Improvements. For me it was an ideal homeowner-contractor experience.

Mr. Harden is an owner-operator, the leader of his crew, always on the job, on the roof with the others. Through an open window, I overheard one of the crew ask if he should work on the next rain gutter, and Mr. Harden said, and quot; No, I'll do it ... I don't like the way you cut the last one.and quot; ... He may not be charismatic, but he wants the work to be done to his satisfaction.
It is true that he can be difficult to contact, even after leaving several messages. We knew that because he's repaired half a dozen or more of our shingle failures over the last decade. It was difficult to find a roofer willing to repair / replace a shingle set on a steep roof, but once we found him, he came back time and again, eventually.
Of three bids to do our roof, his came in lowest, and with our previous repair experiences, we decided to go with him.
One outstanding point of the job: they hammered the nails in by hand, no power tools. This is important because a number of our flying shingles from the previous job had holes the size of the nail -- the power nailer was set too high and actually damaged the shingles when applied.
One other point: Our gutter hangers are now over the shingles, instead of under the shingles like they were. Not our choice, but it doesn't matter.

I paid $400 to $500 for the job. I had three porches and this one was up on the second floor. There was a very strong roof on it and he put on a rolled roof on it. My interaction with him was fine and he did a good job. The work was alright. I had one problem with him. He said that he would come back and look at the gutter that was leaking. When I called him, he was back on if he would show up and he was very sarcastic to me. I would not use him again in the future. His price was good. I had several estimates and he was good. He was here and he got the job done. He was professional.

This company performed great. Work site was left clean daily. They contacted neighbors for permission to use their driveway.
