It went superbly. On one of my spark plugs in my 2003 Subaru Forester, the spark plug holder threads in my engine block were stripped. I was told by another mechanic that I needed to take it to 'an engine shop' to have this work performed. I found Hillside Auto Repair entry on Angie’s List and the name of the owner stirred childhood memories since I grew up on the same block as a family with the same name. Coincidentally, as a teen, I remember the boys of that family - being around my age - always had enviable (hot rod) cars. It’s no stretch that they own an Auto Repair Shop.
So I took a chance and called this shop on a quiet street in Jenkintown. Making the appointment and discussing my concern was easy. Upon dropping off the car, the mechanic explained in GREAT detail, all of the possible scenarios for this particular repair - which in some cases, involves removing the block from the car and placing it on a bench to rethread the sparkplug holders. This could be VERY expensive. Or, in some cases, you can rethread the hole in place by removing a few parts to get to the holder with a special rethreading tool. He told me he'd let me know which way it would go 'once we get in there and see what’s upand quot;. He explained exactly what would need to be done in very clear terms.
So, in the end - the repair could be done in place and didn’t require the removal of the block, but more importantly, the staff is SUPER FRIENDLY, and EXPERT at what they do.
This isn’t a 'drop in and wait' kind of shop. Call ahead and make an appointment, and plan to leave your car there for the day, but it is totally worth the additional steps because you get QUALITY service, from a group of very skilled and immediately likeable professionals.
transmission failed. I have been going to Hillside for both of our
family cars for 2 1/2 years and can't say enough about their
consumer-friendly approach, the quality of their work, and the price of
their work. They are excellent mechanics. The work I've had done by
them has included basic maintenance and problems that have needed to be
troubleshooted. I've had brakes replaced, electrical problems diagnosed
and corrected, and had detailed work on one of the cylinders in our '99
Camry all with great outcomes at a good price.
