I'm disappointed in the quality of work I received from Excel. I pointed out a crack in the granite when I was at their plant and I was told it wouldn't be used. They sent it with a crack and it's right on the outside edge where it's most noticeable. The rock face edging wasn't properly cut at the plant. The adjacent pieces should of been place together at the plant and then cut so they matched up. It was sent to my house with the front edging not even close to matching. The installers were told to hit it with a hammer. They did so and broke a large piece out of the edging. They didn't even have the proper tools for doing the job. They hit it with a ball peen hammer and a wood chisel. Then they spent a long time breaking scrap pieces up and gluing it back in place to try and make it look alright. This is not what I paid for. There's places where the shop took the easy way out and ground flats on the rock edging with a sander. That's not how a rock face edge is supposed to look. It's supposed to look like it was hand cut with a chisel. The edging had some dust on it which makes me wonder just how much sealer was put on it at the shop. If you wipe wet sealer on a dusty edge should take off the dust right? I was told I was getting a sealer with a 15 year warranty. I now find out that the sealer never fully seals the surface. At no point is the surface fully sealed and protected from liquids. It only slows down the rate at which the stone absorbs a liquid. The 15 year warranty doesn't cover staining or damage due to spills. So what good is it? The backsplash pieces weren't even cut all the same width so as you look along the top it steps up and down rather than a clean line. I wanted to put tile between the top of the backsplash and the upper cabinets. I wont be able to do that now because you'll see it in the grout lines. Also if they weren't able to match the grain on the top I wish they would of said something, so I could of made a decision on what to do next. On the bright side. The installer who was gluing the top together was excellent, very professional and tried to do his best, but he was put in a bad spot with what he had to work with. The rock edge was burnished down well enough that there would never be a problem with snagging a shirt on it, so they did a nice job there. The installers moved all that heavy granite in and out without a problem or mess. I'm sorry that I'm stuck with this top now. It's alright but I would go somewhere else if I ever needed another one.
