Dunn's Painting & Staining

Crew came out and quoted work and started within a week, Crew was nice and did do very nice work. They had to work around the rainy weather so multiple trips were necessary. Approximately 2 weeks after starting, the crew was supposed to finish the garage so I made final payment before I went to work. Their day was cut short by rain and all of the trim was not finished, and gutters were not re-installed. I waited 3 weeks and called to see when he was going to complete, and he had forgot about me. I received return calls about every three days saying they were going to be out, and no one ever showed up. A few weeks passed and my calls were responded by excuses of why they were not there. My last phone call was to have him tell me when the job was going to be completed by and if not by that date, I needed to take matters to the next level. 9/23/2012 a worker showed up to finish, without enough stain to complete the job and I had to buy another gallon of stain to complete the job. He left to get the stain and the worker has not showed back up. I had to stain portions of the garage to be able to put the gutters up to avoid damage from water running into the garage. The crew did do nice work but completing the job is most important part of the job. That's what I paid for. a complete job. Very unprofessional, and irresponsible.

Work was scheduled about two weeks after I called and then completed in about three days. My original quote was for half the amount I paid. Each day Dunn arrived, there was something more he had to do to keep adding costs, for instance he needed more paint and it took longer to do the job than he thought so he needed more money to pay his crew for their extra time. Then he told me he could replace boards on my deck that were damaged from a hail storm in March 2011 and I agreed to this since I had a two year old that I didn't want hurt on these boards. When his group told me they finished the work and cleaned up, I let my two year old out on the deck. I then saw her try to eat a nail. So I looked the deck over more closely and found 32 nails spread over the deck that they didn't clean up. I also had the same experience with them washing their paint brushes off in our grass, however it didn't kill our grass. His crew did throw cigarette butts in my yard.

I would not hire again, after three attempts the job was never properly done.

I had my deck POORLY stained by Dunn's painting and staining last summer (2009). This year it looked like it had never been done. I asked them redo it and he wanted me to pay for the stain. (he still had an almost full gallon of the stain left over from the original job (that I paid for last year) He did come back and redo it at no cost (floor boards only) but it still is not right and I will have it redone by some one else. It was a sloppy job, there were parts of the outer side of the deck that were never done at all, they threw cigarette buts in my back yard and cleaned their brushes in my newly planted grass in the front (obviously killing it.) Fast isn't always good.

My overall experience with Doug Dunn was good. They were fast and relatively clean. I had an incident with them where someone painted the closet doors with the clothes still in there, but they took care of it. I think that their price was fair. I would use them in the future, if necessary.
