"Thank you so much! It was a pleasure to work with you!"
We made a trip to MD to pick out the perfect slab of granite for our kitchen. It complimented our oak cabinets nicely. We had been looking on and off for 3 years but when we saw Autumn River we knew that was the one we wanted. Although we did make a trip to Allison Park to check out a totally different slab and almost went with it until we talked and after 2 days went back to Autumn River.
Rose took care of the contract and ordered the granite and sinks.
Roger, Steve, Mike and Jerry arrived on time and that's when I started snapping pictures. It took 4 guys to carry the 2 slabs of granite into the house. Jerry had done his part and left the other 3 to install the countertops.
They were very good about me taking pictures throughout the process and answered all of our questions as they worked. My husband and I watched and were very pleased.
They covered our floors so they would not track in dirt and made final cuts to the tops outside. They installed a countertop in our kitchen and 2 bathroom vanities.
It was a big job and we are pleased with the work. We love our kitchen and would have recommended Indiana Granite and Marble. We have gotten lots of compliments on our kitchen.
NOT ONLY DID THEY CRACK OUR GRANITE COUNTER TOP - INDIANA MARBLE AND GRANITE IMPROPERLY MEASURED AND CUT THE STONE TO THE WRONG LENGTH! THE COUNTER TOP WAS TOO LONG AND THEIR PROFESSIONAL SOLUTION WAS TO "FORCE" THE COUNTERTOP BETWEEN THE WALL AND THE FRIDGE, WHICH BUCKLED THE SIDE OF OUR FRIDGE IN, REQUIRING US TO BUY A NEW SMALLER FRIDGE.
WHILE INSTALLING THE COUNTER TOPS, INDIANA MARBLE AND GRANITE DROVE IN WEDGES ALL OVER OUR EXPENSIVE CABINETRY WHICH LOOKED HORRIBLE CAUSING THE CABINET DOORS TO BECOME UNEVEN RUINING OUR CABINETS. NOT ONLY DO THEY DO TERRIBLE WORK, THEY DAMAGE EVERYTHING THEY TOUCH! WE HAD TO BRING IN A CARPENTER TO REPAIR THEIR DAMAGE! TO ADD INSULT TO INJURY, INDIANA MARBLE AND GRANITE OWNER ROSE HAGGERTY LAUGHED AT US OVER THE PHONE WHEN WE CALLED TO COMPLAIN.
DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM INDIANA MARBLE AND GRANITE (LOCATED OUTSIDE INDIANA, PA) - YOU WILL REGRET IT IF YOU DO!
CONSUMER RESPONSE TO INDIANA MARBLE AND GRANITE'S 8/17/12 RESPONSE:
I CALL MY COUNTER TOP CRACKED, INDIANA MARBLE AND GRANITE CALLS IT A "FISSURE". IT IS A DIFFERENCE WITH NO DISTINCTION. BOTTOM LINE: THEY CRACKED MY COUNTER TOP CUTTING OUT THE SPACE FOR THE SINK AND DIDN'T HAVE THE HONESTY TO NOTIFY ME THAT THEY DAMAGED MY PROPERTY. SHAME!
INDIANA MARBLE AND GRANITE DID PROVIDE A CARPENTER TO COVER UP THE TOE KICK AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CABINETS THAT WERE RAISED UP OFF THE FLOOOR AS A RESULT OF THEIR INSTALLATION METHOD OF DRIVING NUMEROUS WEDGES UNDERNEATH THE CABINETS DURING INSTALLATION WHICH LOOKS TERRIBLE IN THAT THE WEDGES ARE EXPOSED AND EXTREMELY NOTICABLE!
ALL THESE WEDGES UNDER THE CABINETS MADE THE CABINET DOORS BECAME UNEVEN OVER TIME (DUE TO PRESSURE). WHEN THIS CONCERN WAS RELAYED TO OWNER ROSE HAGGERTY, SHE LAUGHED AT ME OVER THE PHONE. I THEN HIRED A CONTRACTER AND PAYED TO HAVE THE DAMAGE FIXED.
REGARDING THE FRIDGE: BOTTOM LINE: THEY BUCKLED THE SIDE OF THE FRIDGE IN INSTALLING THE COUNTER TOP - FORCING IT INTO PLACE. IF THEY HAD TAKEN PROPER MEASUREMENTS AND NOT CUT THE STONE TOO LONG IT WOULD OF FIT BETWEEN THE WALL AND THE FRIDGE. IT WILL EITHER FIT BETWEEN THESE TWO OBJECTS OR NOT, REGARDLESS OF THE FRIDGE BEING THERE DURING INSTALLATION OR NOT - ANOTHER BASELESS ARGUMENT TO DEFLECT RESPONSIBILITY BY INDIANA MARBLE AND GRANITE. BY THE WAY, THE FRIDGE WAS WORKING (ONLY THE WATER FEATURE IN THE DOOR WAS NOT FUNCTIONAL - ANOTHER FALSEHOOD IN THE PROVIDER RESPONSE).
ANOTHER FACTOID FOR THE READERS TO UNDERSTAND. THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU'S RATINGS ON A COMPANY ARE ONLY DOWNGRADED WHEN A "FINANCIAL CLAIM" IS FILED. CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS DO NOT AFFECT A BBB RATING ON A COMPANY, UNLESS IT IS A CLAIM, WHICH WE CHOSE NOT TO PURSUE. THEREFORE, WHEN A COMPANY LIKE INDIANA MARBLE AND GRANITE BOAST A TOP BBB RATING, IT MAY BE MISLEADING IN THAT CLAIMS ONLY, NOT COMPLAINTS FACTOR INTO THE BBB RATING.
BOTTOM LINE IS WE SPENT 6,000 DOLLARS FOR INDIANA MARBLE AND GRAINTE TO WRECK OUR CABINETS AND KITCHEN APPLIANCES.
"This job was not completed April 6, 2011, but on June 8, 2010. The crack at the sink is a fissure in the stone which occurs naturally in many stones. This particular stone was an exotic range granite, which is more susceptible to fissures opening, this is not considered a flaw in the granite. The cost of the granite and installation was $5494.00. This job was measured with existing Formica counters and backsplash in place, per request of the homeowner, and it was nearly impossible to be 100% accurate on the measurement for the length of the counter since we were unable to square off of the wall. I believe this difference was a ¼”. The customer would not allow us to remove the refrigerator for proper installation of his countertops for fear of damaging the trim in front of the unit – which was a plastic composite. The refrigerator was replaced after there was an issue with it not working, as he called me to ask if we would remove the wood trim in front to allow the repair man to remove the refrigerator, not due to “damage” that was caused by my installers. The carpenter that was used (Steve Barto, co-owner of Community Craftsmen Contractors), was hired by Indiana Marble & Granite, Inc., not the customer, nor did the customer have to pay for his labor. The wedges under the tops were necessary as his expensive cabinetry was installed 2" out of level some time ago and we could not remove the toe kick (per the customer) to level the cabinets properly. We also removed his existing counters at no charge for when we arrived to do the installation and he did not have them removed as required. It was not in our contract to remove his existing counters, nor was he charged for this service. The installation of the counters would not have caused his cabinet doors to become uneven. The customer called after the installation of his new refrigerator (approximately 6 months after the installation of the counters) to tell me that his cabinet “had twisted” at which time I replied that our work would not have caused this issue. At no time was the customer laughed at. While we apologize for any distress that may have been caused, our company made every attempt to satisfy the customer going above and beyond what most contractors would do. We could only do so much with what we had to work with in the given situation.
