Mr. Zacharia responded promptly, however instead of an appointment for an estimate, I received an email that upset and angered me. I found the tone of the email inappropriate and condescending. Included in the email was a short background of the roofing business, followed by portions of a study made by the Philadelphia Inquirer regarding roofers with criminal backgrounds in the Philadelphia area. I simply asked for an estimate for my porch??? I am sure that Mr. Zacharia surmised from my email that I was shopping for an affordable price. Following is a portion of Mr. Zacharia’s email: “If you're shopping by numbers than that wouldn't be for me. I'm not cheap. I'm good at what I do and you have to pay for that. I do not beg for work. I have too much of it. Too many people ask me to work for them and I can't do it all so I turn down ones I don't want…I'm here to help people that need help but you have to take it more seriously than you did. You have to take an interest in who you're hiring and what they are doing. Just asking for a price is not for me.” I was suprized and ofended to hear that as a consumer, I was not taking my repair project and quot;seriously.and quot; I was also puzzled as to why a company that has “too much work” would find the need to advertise on Angie’s list? In light of today's economic situation, I was sadly disappointed that a company representative would respond to a potential customer with such insensitivity and total lack of civility. Improved customer service should become a priority for this company. Clearly, Zacharia Roofing is not for me!!!
"So here’s the other side of the story. I do not try to get every job or take in every dollar. I try to be honest and teach consumers how not to ripped off. From that the dollars just flow in. This consumer e-mailed me a list of 5 things she wanted done. My company name is Zacharia Roofing which means I do roofing. What she wanted done is listed below: o New porch roof o New porch floor o New porch front (upper & lower) o Painting of 2nd floor window trim o Repairs to front cement steps She attached a form to the e-mail for me to fill out. That form had my name and address, her name and address and a form to fill in. That form had a table on it with 3 columns. 1. The item she needed done (as listed above) 2. The price ( I was to just put a number down) 3. The time it would take to complete the task. She asked that I fill in the blocks and leave it in her mailbox. That was my only exposure possible that I’d get for this estimate. I’m supposed to just put in a dollar amount and put it in the mailbox. I get no interaction with the customer and she gets no interaction with the contractor. I never get to tell her details of what I’m doing, what the guarantee is or what my company’s like. On the other hand, she never gets to find out my experience, to ask about my qualifications or just to look at me and see if I’m a dirtball. I knew there was no way I’d ever get the job based on a dollar sign. No matter how cheap someone is there is always a bum that will do it cheaper and do a junk job. So my goal here was to put her in shock as to what she did and show her how crazy it is to look for a contractor that way. As far as her saying I advertise on Angie’s List, I do not. What you see on Angie’s List are reviews of companies by consumers. The companies have no control over those reviews – which is what Angie’s List is all about. If you go out tomorrow and hire ABC Contractors you can go on Angie’s List and start a file on them and leave a review. The company didn’t pay for that or would even know about it. Companies, if they wish, can pay for advertising on Angie’s List and that will get them more exposure on Angie’s List website. I do not do that. I let my customers speak for themselves."
list, we gave them a call for a roof inspection when we were in the middle of
purchasing our house a year ago. Brad came out and gave a detailed report on
its condition. He thought we could get at least one more winter out of the
roof. He provided a competitive price for a new roof when we were ready.
Fast forward to Sept. 2012. It was now time to get that roof
done. I contacted Brad again and he retrieved the estimate that he had given us
last year. All the information was current and the pricing was adjusted as we
had a skylight we wanted him to install for us. We have a low slope roof and
chose to have a modified roof installed with the aluminum coating to cut down
on the cooling costs in the summer. The project was completed without any
issues. Brad has communicated very well and in a timely manner during each
phase of the project. The area was left clean and they hauled away any debris
that they created. Pictures of our old roof as well as the new one were sent to
us by email so we have proof of the work that was preformed. All in all a very
satisfying experience. We will use Brad and his wealth of knowledge again in
the future and definitely recommend him.
"I can't help it if she does not answer the phone when she can't see the number. I do not give out my number from my cell phone. If I did I'd be getting a hundred calls a day while I'm driving and working. I'd never get anything done. They can call my office or home any time they want but not my cell. She asked me to come out. I did that. After calling several times trying to get her in I finally decided I was being ignored and apparently she didn't need me anymore. I had left a message that if she didn't need me she could have told me so instead of me wasting my time to keep calling trying to get her. She could have called me once instead of me calling her a number of times. Even if she didn't need me she could have pretended she did and listened to what I found on her roof. It would have been free advice and I did make a trip out there as she asked."
