When the plumber turned off the water under the sink, the valve broke. I understand these things can happen, but after he replaced the valve, he hooked up the system and because he had not tightened one of the filters sufficiently, it leaked all over. When he tightened the filter enough to stop the leaking and turned it on, he discovered he had hooked up the filtered water to flow to the dishwasher and fridge rather than to the spigot. He had to add a saddle valve and reroute the water. His sole assurance was that he was not going to charge me for the valve he had incorrectly installed! Even having subtracted time for some of the errors he made, I still paid $150/hr ($300 total) for a job that should not have taken nearly as long. A day later, the cabinet under the sink was so full of water that it was seeping out onto my hardwood floor because of some connection that was shaken loose during the installation; the plumber had to return to mke the repair. .

Chuck provided a bid for a street opening to repair a broken sewer lateral.  He bid $9,000 for a spot repair in the street with the costs of repaving as my responsibility, or $18,500 for a full line replacement (40' of street, 7' of sidewalk, and 19' of yard, 8' deep, including street repaving).

I authorized the spot repair and Tony arrived to begin work.  Tony opened the street and discovered years of asphalt fill due to a recurrent sinkhole from before our purchase of the property.  He recommended replacing the full line due to past years of damage and I authorized that.  We discussed adding an additional storm water line to the sewer in the middle of the street for an additional $3,000, plus the city's tap fee.  I called the city to check on the sewer configuration and discovered that we have two combined sewers in our street, not one sanitary and one storm sewer.  I cancelled the additional storm water tap, and Chuck offered a $3,000 reduction in price if we only needed to go to the near combined sewer (not the far side sewer), saving 19' of street opening.

Full excavation was underway with one opening in the street and one opening in the yard when Chuck called to propose redoing the sewer line inside the house as well.  He bid $6,300 to open 30' of concrete and $3,500 to reroute two downspouts, installing new 4" pipe for the whole run, feeding it through the existing 9" pipe.  Chuck and Tony showed me camera feeds of the interior piping, point out what they considered to be issues demanding replacement.  I responded that I would solicit a competing bid for the new scope of work, and Chuck expressed frustration that I was "slowing him down".  The competing bid the next day performed the same camera work, showed me the same "issues" and explained that they were minor and normal and not of concern.  "Pipe inside looks CLEAN!" was the written summary.  I declined the additional scope of work change and was told by Chuck and Tony that I "was making a mistake".

The original full line replacement was continued and the Chuck reduced the offering of a $3000 price reduction for tying to the line in the middle of the street to $1500.  The ACHD inspector recommended that I add a secondary parallel line for future storm water use (if needed).  I requested this of Chuck and Tony and I agreed to $1500 for 30' of 6" PVC with essentially no additional digging.

Chuck then reported that the wye at the main was bad and that this would be an additional substantial expense to replace sections of the main itself.  Chuck and I both called the city, and the city sent a camera crew to confirm.  The camera crew and a city administrator both acknowledged the problem as the city's responsibility, but would not do anything immediate as there was still flow through the defective wye.  Chuck tied an original damaged piece of pipe back onto the defective wye to prevent further damage to the wye and closed the street and yard.

I felt a repeated passive-aggressive upsell during the whole process, and despite being told repeatedly by Tony what a good deal I was getting, it is hard to feel that way.  I don't have hard feelings over the experience, but I don't have trusting and positive ones either.

They dug 25  feet in the ground to fix the pipes. They cut one of my mature trees and left pipes hanging out of the ground. They were supposed to come back and cut the pipes down so that the person that mows my lawn would be able to go over it. When I called back, the secretary told me they were not permitted to come back on anyone’s property anymore. My lawn used to be beautiful sod and they dug it up so now there’s clay on top. All I want them to do is cut the pipe. Now when I call the secretary she hangs up on me.

The woman on the phone was wonderful. Came next-day for estimate. I knew nothing about heating and needed a quick fix for my tenants, so I agreed. Later that week, I looked up the parts at Home Depot-about $110 total. Estimate said $175) They were more than 5 hours late, so my tenants had to let them in. The guys who did the job gave off a bad vibe to both my roommate and the tenants in the unit, I thought they were fine when I met them for the estimate, but one of them was caught smoking in my basement twice. Also, I don't know if it's just the nature of how these fans work, but my tenants have already complained the fans are really noisy The installer guy said there was nothing he could do about it. I've used Alescio for plumbing several times with great results, so I was surprised & disappointed.

He quoted me a price that included something that ended up not having to be done, however, he did not knock anything off the price.
