I previously reported that Johnathan Smucker of Holtwood Construction installed Snow Guards that pulled out of the roof of my home. After waiting for him to make the repairs for nearly 6 months, I contracted with another Roofing Contractor who properly installed new snow guards and repaired the holes left from the improperly installed snow guards from Holtwood Construction. That repair showed that the root cause of the Holtwood failure was that they were attached with the wrong screws (much too thin) and were put in the sheet metal roof alone (there was no wood backing). Since Johnathan Smucker of Holtwood Construction was avoiding talking to me about the issue, I attempted to start dialog with a Postal Certified Letter. The Certified Letter was refused on 3 different occasions.
I originally paid $1300 for the job. The repairs to Holtwoods workmanship cost another $518 with another Roofing Contractor. I am now leaving an Angies List Review with these final details to warn others of my terrible experience.
I called Johnathan Smucker immediately when it happened and he went up on a ladder and caulked "what he could reach". I repeatedly asked him for a permanent repair on at least 3 occasions in 2014 and he did not come back to repair them. In fact he said, "You asked me to put snow guards on 7/8" roofing, it's really your problem"! I told him I'm a homeowner, not a contractor if you didn't think snow guards should be installed, I would have expected you to tell me. It's interesting that the snow guards only ripped out of the roof on one side of the house.
I told him I was extremely concerned that the roof had holes in it and the rain would get in and cause damage. Johnathan Smucker from Holtwood Construction never called back or more importantly made the repair.
It should also be noted that he was paid, $1,450 to install gutters on the garage and many of the clips that hold the gutters to the garage have fallen off!
