Jet-Black International

We expanded out driveway in the fall so the kids could play basketball and it was ready to be sealed this summer. I've used other companies and was never satisfied with the material they used so I asked 2 of my neighbors, with really nice driveways, who they used and they both said Jet Black. 

I called the company and they said they would have someone out to give me an estimate in the next couple of days. I happened to be home and the gentleman went over the driveway and quoted me $315.00...which I thought was fair given that we expanded a 2 car garage driveway with a bump out for basketball. I called the office to schedule a date....easy as that. 

2 days before they were scheduled to do my driveway the office called an let me know there was rain in the forecast and they rescheduled for the following day......the night before the work we received a confirmation call to remind us they were coming. 

When they arrived they took their time to cut the driveway and clean the surface....the lead crew member did the initial cut when applying the material and he was meticulous.......they applied the sealant and when they were complete my driveway was beautiful.

Since this is the first sealant on the new driveway they told me to keep an eye on it.....and that because it really sucked up the material it may need another coat before the winter of 2017....which is what I expected. 

I was very happy with Jet-Black and will be using them in the future and referring them to others. 






 



 

What I respected was the prompt replies to quotes and questions via email (more than 1) BEFORE the job.  They did in fact, complete the job and it was clean.  Nothing on belgian blocks, or garage apron or house.  I did not need be home and payment
was not required same day, I received a bill and could pay on line.  That's the positive.
The negative is the materials used have my driveway looking like it needs to be sealed again already, only a few months later.  I wrote to email address I've commicated with successfully pre-job, letting them know I did not see a single amount of hot rubber sealant on any cracks, yet that was included in the price.  The driveway sealant was used uniformily across entire driveway, and the cracks remained, with light coat of sealant, nothing like the hot rubber you normally have them covered by.
The real negative is that I wrote using the same email address we corresponded with many times, to let them know I was dissappointed there was no hot rubber on cracks, and the cracks are still visable.   The cracks are what take in the water, expand and then further damage your driveway.  I don't get my driveway sealed so it looks darker, and that is all this job did, and the darkness faded quickly.   I did not receive a reply.  Nothing, never mind an apology or an explaination.   I received nothing.  I would expect him to say he did not receive the email, but it was sent twice, with the same address I received PROMPT replies to all pre work questions when he bidded for work (those responses came very promptly).
Today, as we approach winter, after having paid $337 for driveway sealing, I (the customer) was out on my driveway correcting Jet-Black failing to seal the cracks.   I purchased a seal and was on driveway filling cracks myself...and each minute thinking, I will NEVER...ever (like, ever) use Jet-Black again.    I won't appreciate an apology (only because I took even more of my life to write this review).  What I did expect was prompt replies to correspondence AFTER you do the work, as you provided when the work was being sought after.   The job was "completed"...by me.   I will go back to my previous driveway sealant provider moving forward.  My biggest regret was using Jet-Black only because I saved $47...spending today (on my knees) on the driveway patching cracks, because Jet-Black never replied.  I didn't want to go into winter with sub-standard sealant and it made me regret my choice, more than 47 times.    I never respect doing work after paying a "professional" to do it.   Perhaps if they are to ignore emails, they include a customer satisfaction process POST job, so they can have opportunity to make things right (provide service paid to do...).  Right now, I do not need nor expect anything from Jet-Black.  Lesson learned.  There are so many in this business, and I went from the one I trusted.  My mistake...so I wanted to write a review.  I may be the only person this happens to, but that's not usually the case, so I didn't want to eat the experience, even though I think I worked harder on my driveway today, than the service provider.

Called to get an estimate for the job on Monday and was told that the owner would come out to provide one by week's end. Friday afternoon there was a detailed price quote in my mailbox.
Called to schedule appointment on Friday; appointment made 10 days hence.
Crew arrived as scheduled! Men were friendly, answered my questions directly, and set about their work. 
I watched as they completed each phase of the job - precisely as described in that detailed quote. These guys clean up nicely too!
Driveway looks great. Will recommend to all and use again.

The driveway was done about 3 weeks later spots started showing throw I called the owner came said it wasn't his fault went back and forth he agreed to reseal it. Waited three weeks called got the run around 3 more weeks later they showed up to redo it , the owner called me while I was at work asking for another 100 dollars or would leave. I have had such a bad experience . Buyer beware

The owner came out and was very prompt. They did the job in the exact time frame they said they would. It looked great!

They were very clean and professional...a number of our neighbors use them....A good crew.

Arrived when they said they would.  Completed the job quickly and even fixed a paving problem not associated with the driveway without charge.

Nice guys, on time. efficient! 80% of the cracks, large and small reopened and did not survive the winter.

The contractor was willing to wait a couple of weeks to do the job because we were
going on vacation. The job was done on the first day we were gone. When
we returned from vacation the job was done and the job was excellent.

workmen arrived as scheduled and began work immediately. they power edged the complete driveway to remove all grass which had overgrown. once completed they then sealed all cracks and poured special asphalt mix where driveway met my concrete walk and garage apron. they finished up by hand squeegee the entire driveway with asphalt sealant. overall they did an exceptional job.

This was an easy transaction.  I called and asked for an estimate.  Within a few days (I had called on a Friday afternoon), the estimate was waiting for me in my mailbox. Since I had seen their work around my neighborhood, I was familiar with the quality. The estimate was better than I expected (which included a discount for being an Angie's List member). They arrived and completed the job when they said they would.  And, the quality of the work was just what I expected.  I am quite happy.

After an estimate was left at our door and I left a message to schedule the job, the call was promptly returned. It was a weekend, so the job was tenatively scheduled for the next week. Got a confirmation of the exact day/time & the crew arrived on time & completed the job. Jet-Black applies the sealcoating using a brush application which was different from the way we had it done before (spray application) from another provider. We had a concern about rain washing it off since the forecast was for rain the next day but were told that the sealcoating should dry off by the time rain arrived. The job was very well done - neat edges & uniform dark color. We would use this company again in the future.

They did a thorough efficient and excellent job.

I was a bit concerned when no one showed up by 9 AM, but they purposely let the driveway dry in the sun.  Entire job finished in one day.  Remember that the seal coat needs to dry for preferably 48 hours.

Jet-Black International visited us when they said they would. It was fine. There were no problems. They were very good. We didn't have complaints at all.

Our overall experience was very good. I initially called and asked for an estimate. They came out within a week and left the estimate in our mailbox. They did not keep calling to see if we wanted to do the work. When we were ready we called them and made an appointment. They came out exactly when they said they would and did a fantastic job.

We were very pleased with the outcome.  Jet Black responded quickly to our inquiry and came out to provide an estimate within a day of the request.  They were quick, professional and clean.

They were very nice, prompt, and did a great job. I was very happy with the outcome of the work.

The three workers came out to do the work on the first day.  We discussed different options for the repairs, and then chose a course of action.  After the first day of work, there were some surprises.  1.)  They were very sloppy.  There was black top tar spilled on to our concrete sidewalk in the front of the house, near the street.  It was on the main part and in the cracks of the sidewalk.  I would think they could have used "painters tape" or something so that it would make a clean line and not run on to the sidewalk.  It was very messy looking.  And, since people walk past our house on the sidewalk, it is very unattractive.  On the second visit a month later, they fixed some of this.  But, still, there is some black tar leftover.  And, duing the cleanup of this mess, that had to scrap the sidewalk to get it off, so it is lighter from the "sanding."  2.)  As they were pounding in some patching near my garage, they chipped and cracked the concrete block foundation under my garage doors.  When they were using the pounder, they missed and hit the concrete block.  We have many cracks and pieces loose on the block.  3.)  There were two textures/tones on the driveway.  One texture/tone for the main driveway.  And, one texture/tone for where the repairs are.  Now, we have THREE tones.  On the second visit, they used a paint-type covering to mend the repaired area to the rest of the driveway.  So, we have two textures/tones near the sidewalk where some repairs were made.  And, we have THREE textuers/tones near the garage.  And, I have two tones near another crack repair.  4.)  Some more minor sloppiness:  They left tar pieces in my garage.  There is a tar drip line on the driveway.
The bottom line is that it is a complete mess.  We have far and away the WORST driveway in our development.  And, we were hoping to have one of the best after spending more money for a "quality" system/vendor.  I never thought a driveway repair/resealing would be so complicated and would be screwed up so badly.  I figured you hire experts for this minor stuff and they can take care of it.  Now, I am on Angie's List, so I can check out some of this.  I joined Angie's List to see if others had an issue with this company.
I feel like I have to rip out the entire driveway and start from scratch if I want to re-sell this house some day.  I'll be contacting other driveway experts to see what they make of this.
