Moffat & Sons Refinishers

Moffat & Sons refinished our tub in April, 2015. The initial job was fine, except that the refinishing material was sprayed all over our brand new tile floor and even out into the hallway onto our wood floor. I called the company and they came out and cleaned it up as best they could. There is still a slight residue on our wood floor. Over the last 2 1/2 years, the finish has started wearing down in places and chipping really bad in others. We have been very careful about not having any metal containers in the tub that could be dropped, causing a chip, or using any abrasive scrubbing materials/cleaners (as advised when the job was completed). Additionally, the "sand finish" that we had put on the bottom to prevent slipping has stained over the last 2 years (and I clean quite frequently). The pictures below were taken directly after a thorough cleaning, but our tub always looks dirty. I only just recently contacted the company, because until the large chipping started happening, I was willing to live with the small spots and stained "sand finish." Their response was that because I did not contact them within the 2-year period they would have to charge to redo the entire tub. I don't like to leave negative reviews but feel compelled to share my experience, because I wish I would have known this before we decided to hire Moffat & Sons.

The tub was in terrible condition.  Ron met me to review what needed to be completed and also made some suggestions on adding a drain plug which was no longer there.  Jeff came out and did a beautiful job on the tub.  I am seriously considering having all the tile reglazed as well.

Setting up the appointment was easy. I informed Mr. Moffat this was my first time having a tub glazed so I asked several questions. I was displeased that Mr. or Mrs. Moffat or their son who did the work failed to point out the important detail that a bathmat could not be used post glazing. Not only did they fail to mention it but the information was not clearly worded and the last point in their small typed warranty information. When large sections of my tub peeled off I called and they asked me if I used a bathmat to which I honestly answered "yes". Mrs. Moffat told me that using a bathmat means I broke the warranty and they could come fix it but I would need to pay for it and her husband would call me back to setup the appointment. Then when Mr. Moffat finally called me back (after 2 more weeks of my tub peeling more and more each day) he started the call by asking me in a stern tone "don't you think you should take some reasonability for this issue?!?!" I had not said more than a hello and I was not challenging the cost of $150 to pay for the fix. I agreed to pay the cost to fix the tub since it was part of the warranty. I suggested to Mr. Moffat that since this is a common problem (his wife's words) he make it clear to new customers that you are not able to use a bathmat following a tub reglaze. Finally when the tub was fixed I had to ask Mrs. Moffat to send me something that clearly states what cleaners can/can't be used. In the flyer she sent me the first point in BOLD type said no bathmats. I asked why this wasn't sent to me prior to the service to which I never received a response. In the end Mr. Moffat only charged me $75 (not $150) to fix the tub but this whole thing could have been avoided with better communication. Unfortunately I would not recommend this company based on their lack of clear or prompt communication and their defensive customer service approach.

Didn't Hold Up.  I really wanted this to work.  This tub is in a rental property so a quick turnaround was critical.  Initially the tub looked great but 6 months later it started to peel.  The worst part was it was peeling on a vertical surface.  Luckily it was under warranty (1 year).  When I called for warranty service I was asked "are your tenants using a bath mat" which voids the warranty.  Since the peeling was on a vertical surface in the front of the tub, bathmat wasn't the issue.  And the tenants were instructed to not use abrasive cleaners or sponges.  They came out to fix the peeling but this was an inconvenience to me and my tenants (took 48 to dry, again).  Now approximately one year later it's peeling in a different vertical area.  So now I am spending about $1,000 to install a new tub and surround.  I thought about calling the company to make this right, but I know it will just peel again.  I also thought I would ask for a partial refund, but I don't have the time to haggle over $200.  I have nothing against the company, just the quality of workmanship.  I want this review to be a warning to anyone thinking about tub refinishing.  I was expecting to get 5 years out of this but only got two.  Another mistake I made was not being there when the work was done.  I feel that the poor workmanship may have been because; a) I wasn't there or b) it was a rental property so they didn't take the time they would with someone's primary residence, or both.

The tub looks spectacular - like new.   Jeff was prompt and efficient.  He was able to fit us in their schedule shortly after we called. We are pleased with the results and we would recommend them.

Mr. Moffatt was very professional and friendly when I placed a call asking for an estimate. We set a date and time for the repair and the service man arrived at the designated time. Our tub was stripped and reglazed.  A few days later, Mr. Moffat returned to complete the tub work. My tub looks like new and I was extremely pleased with the results. I would definitely recommend Moffat

They did a great job.
The only problem was that what was described as a one-day job  (Monday)actually took 3 days stretched put over four (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday).

hey were wonderful.  They came and gave an estimate.  The person who did
the actual work was very professional. 
He came twice after that.   He cleaned up and even wore
booties in the house.  He was punctual as well.

They did an excellent job.  They explained the procedures in full
detail. They were extremely professional. I was very impressed.  They
were neat, on time and efficient.   I would not hesitate to recommend Moffat & Sons.  They were excellent.

We used them twice and we were very happy with their service.  They did a nice job.  They responded quickly to the call.  They came out, gave an estimate, set up an appointment, and came out when they said they were going to come out.  That was important because we didn’t live in the house and we had somebody over there to let them in.  They did a good job.  Their prices were fair.  It was about normal for what people charge to do this kind of job.  We have had our bathtubs redone before and had problems with it, so we were on the lookout for potential problems but we didn’t have any.  They were very responsive.  They came out immediately to set up a date, when we called.  They were very professional.  They came prepared for the job.  They worked the hours they said they were going to work.  I also appreciate the fact that they were willing to bill me.  I would absolutely use them again.  I have recommended them to other people who were looking to have their bathtubs refinished as opposed to replacing it.

The tech. arrived on time. Tapeing the fixtures and preparing the tub took about an hour. The entire job took about 2 1/2 hours. The bathroom was off limits for 2 days while the tub dried. The tech returned on Friday to take off the tape and recaulk the tub. We are very happy with the finished job.

They did very well and the quality of the work was fantastic. I was very impressed and I would recommend them to anyone. They were on time, friendly, and made sure to answer all of our questions.

GAVE US AN OVERVIEW OF THE PROCESS AND HOW LONG IT WOULD TAKE. COMPLETED WORK ON TIME. GAVE US INFO AS NEEDED ON WHEN WE COULD SHOWER.
