Kitchen and Bathroom Remodel
$2,000
Dale Martin (owner of Shea?s construction) was a completely unprofessional contractor. When hired to renovate my bathroom he did a very poor job. He made promises to show up and work on the project and never showed up. He started other projects at other people homes and never came back to complete my bathroom renovation. He constantly made excuses of why he can?t do the work all the while he was working on other projects.  He lied and said that I didn?t have enough material (tiles) to complete the project causing me to order excessive, expensive and unnecessary tile (currently left over) from bathroom completion. Once he was fired from my project (back in Nov-Dec 2009) he agreed to a refund that he never paid. It has been almost six months and he still has yet to pay the agreed upon $300.00 refund. This does not include the additional money spent on tiles and the cost I had to pay another contractor to remove the substandard framework that was emplaced by Dale.

IT WAS HORRIBLE, DISTURBING, CONTINUAL DELAYS, CONTINUAL PROBLEMS, LOUSY WORK, NO CLEANUP, AND EXHAUSTING!@!! I have a very small house (less than 900 square feet) and this went on for THREE FULL months (from August 2010 to end of November 2010)....This should have been problem free, and completed in ONE OR TWO DAYS. I never ever expected this type of work from someone and I thought I was being a good customer by giving a local source business. Dale Martin lives a couple of blocks from my house where this work was done. Let me assure you the roof on his house doesn't look like my "NEW" roof does but maybe he didn't do his own roof. I acknowledge that he had problems with a person he had used in the past and trusted to do the installation of the new gutters/downspouts but that is not my problem, it's his as the main contractor, although it does make you wonder why this subcontractor won't do any work for him any longer, doesn't it? He has to control any subcontractors he intends to use when accepting a contract, not me. And if there were any concerns or hesitation on gutters/downspouts he simply should have just told me that he only does roofing and that would have been the end of it. I would have contacted a gutter company on my own to have that work done. Gutters and downspouts aside the roof simply looks horrible and the old shingles need removed AS PROMISED and contracted for and new shingles installed on the WHOLE ROOF, not just the front of the house and hoping or assuming it wouldn't be noticed. This is deceitful and I'm very disappointed in the dishonesty of this contractor. I acted in good faith and even gave him more money for the down payment than the contract called for ($2,000.00 instead of $1,720.00). ALSO, when a week or two later he asked for an ADDITIONAL $500.00 (something about needing a bigger dumpster..?) of the contract price I had some slight hesitation but acting in good faith, and showing him consideration, I provided that money also. I can't believe I'm going to have to have someone else correct or re-do this but I need to be certain this roof won't cause problems over the winter or not last as it should or have problems down the road. ALL of the issues I originally pointed out should be made right by Shea's Construction and the roof should be fixed! This company's financial stability/status is certainly in question if so much money is requested up front before any performance is made at all just to rent a bigger dumpster, pay his workman, pay the gutter guys (subcontractors)BEFORE the gutters are installed, etc. I could NEVER recommend this contractor. UPDATE 12/15/2010 - I received a bill from "The Gutter Guys" that was supposed to be paid by Dale Martin (Shea's Construction). He subcontracted "The Gutter Guys" to install my downspouts and gutters which was included in my contract with him. They performed the work on 11/11/2010. HE NEVER PAID THEM!! Now here's ANOTHER PROBLEM that's come up with this one little stupid roof job!! Is he going to pay his subcontractor? Like he's going to fix my roof??right DOUBT it.
