Dale Martin (owner of Shea?s construction) was a completely unprofessional contractor. When hired to renovate my bathroom he did a very poor job. He made promises to show up and work on the project and never showed up. He started other projects at other people homes and never came back to complete my bathroom renovation. He constantly made excuses of why he can?t do the work all the while he was working on other projects. He lied and said that I didn?t have enough material (tiles) to complete the project causing me to order excessive, expensive and unnecessary tile (currently left over) from bathroom completion. Once he was fired from my project (back in Nov-Dec 2009) he agreed to a refund that he never paid. It has been almost six months and he still has yet to pay the agreed upon $300.00 refund. This does not include the additional money spent on tiles and the cost I had to pay another contractor to remove the substandard framework that was emplaced by Dale.
Description of Work: The intent of the job was a bathroom renovation to lay new tile and bath tub.

IT WAS HORRIBLE, DISTURBING, CONTINUAL DELAYS, CONTINUAL PROBLEMS, LOUSY WORK, NO CLEANUP, AND EXHAUSTING!@!! I have a very small house (less than 900 square feet) and this went on for THREE FULL months (from August 2010 to end of November 2010)....This should have been problem free, and completed in ONE OR TWO DAYS. I never ever expected this type of work from someone and I thought I was being a good customer by giving a local source business. Dale Martin lives a couple of blocks from my house where this work was done. Let me assure you the roof on his house doesn't look like my "NEW" roof does but maybe he didn't do his own roof. I acknowledge that he had problems with a person he had used in the past and trusted to do the installation of the new gutters/downspouts but that is not my problem, it's his as the main contractor, although it does make you wonder why this subcontractor won't do any work for him any longer, doesn't it? He has to control any subcontractors he intends to use when accepting a contract, not me. And if there were any concerns or hesitation on gutters/downspouts he simply should have just told me that he only does roofing and that would have been the end of it. I would have contacted a gutter company on my own to have that work done. Gutters and downspouts aside the roof simply looks horrible and the old shingles need removed AS PROMISED and contracted for and new shingles installed on the WHOLE ROOF, not just the front of the house and hoping or assuming it wouldn't be noticed. This is deceitful and I'm very disappointed in the dishonesty of this contractor. I acted in good faith and even gave him more money for the down payment than the contract called for ($2,000.00 instead of $1,720.00). ALSO, when a week or two later he asked for an ADDITIONAL $500.00 (something about needing a bigger dumpster..?) of the contract price I had some slight hesitation but acting in good faith, and showing him consideration, I provided that money also. I can't believe I'm going to have to have someone else correct or re-do this but I need to be certain this roof won't cause problems over the winter or not last as it should or have problems down the road. ALL of the issues I originally pointed out should be made right by Shea's Construction and the roof should be fixed! This company's financial stability/status is certainly in question if so much money is requested up front before any performance is made at all just to rent a bigger dumpster, pay his workman, pay the gutter guys (subcontractors)BEFORE the gutters are installed, etc. I could NEVER recommend this contractor. UPDATE 12/15/2010 - I received a bill from "The Gutter Guys" that was supposed to be paid by Dale Martin (Shea's Construction). He subcontracted "The Gutter Guys" to install my downspouts and gutters which was included in my contract with him. They performed the work on 11/11/2010. HE NEVER PAID THEM!! Now here's ANOTHER PROBLEM that's come up with this one little stupid roof job!! Is he going to pay his subcontractor? Like he's going to fix my roof??right DOUBT it.
Description of Work: All the old shingles were to be removed and replaced. The old gutters and down spouts were to be removed and replaced. It took 4 "contracts" to get everything spelled out in detail, the first one was signed on 8/30/2010, then another one was signed on 09/08/2010, then another one on 9/13/2010, and finally the last one on 09/20/2010 (I did NOT received a copy of this one back after I signed it). Work to be performed: remove and install new roof on the residence, install 30 year dimensional shingles, install ridge vent on main home ridge using "cobra Ridge vent/seal", re-paper roof using 30# roofing paper and repair any existing damage to roof sheeting/flashing, cap all ridges with matching ridge cap/seal, re-flash any areas that may require updated flashing, dispose of old roofing material and clean up garden areas, replace existing gutters/downspouts with seamless gutters (white)/dispose of old gutter materials, add mesh gutter gard to new gutters. THIS ROOF LOOKS HORRIBLE AND EVERYONE THAT SEES IT TELLS ME IT WASN'T DONE CORRECTLY AND THINGS NEED FIXED. The old roofing/shingles were removed from the front portion of the house on or about 09/28/2010 and then the new paper and shingles were completed on or around 09/29/2010. It is obvious from looking at the back of the house that the old roofing was NOT removed and that the new shingles (only) were just stapled over the old shingles. The shingles are all lumpy and aren't straight and at the end of the roof where the new gutters and downspouts were FINALLY installed it's all wavy and bumpy. The gutters and downspouts were removed and I was left without them from the date the "new" roof was installed until 11/11/2010. The gutter/downspouts were to be subcontracted out by Shea's Construction but his source never showed up on no less than five dates that were set for this to occur. Shea's did not follow up with me to see what the progress on HIS contract was and I had to call and call and call to see when this would be done. Finally Shea contacted "the Gutter Guys" and they installed new gutters and downspouts on 11/11/2010. They also commented on the roof condition/workmanship. I made numerous calls to Shea and specifically told him I wanted to point out some things that were not right but any date set for this to occur never happened!! He did call me continually however to ask for more money (of the contract total price) to be paid so he could buy the material (the material cost more than he quoted me a few days ago), pay his one workman who helped out, rent a dumpster, and called asking for the final payment amount to be made BEFORE the Gutters Guys installed the gutters/downspouts so he could pay THEM. Dale Martin (Shea Construction) did show up on the day the "Gutter Guys" came (11/11/2010) and told them to install the downspouts in a different place than I had specified and was placed on the work order!..at that time I brought up and pointed out this horrible workmanship and he IGNORED ME and just blew me off. He had to "leave" that day but again promised to be back before the "Gutter Guys" were done so he could pay them but that of course did not happen. They left me with his bill which he did stop buy to pick up however nothing is being done nor am I even being listened to about the fact that anyone can see he did NOT remove the old roofing/shingles, there's black asphalt/tar(?) overhanging on one end of the peak of the roof and on the other end of the peak of the roof it's obvious he came up short and it doesn't even come out to the end of the roof. There is also some black rubber (?) sticking out of places that probably just need snipped off (he agreed that it did) but that was NEVER done either. I'm assuming that no "re-papering" was done on the part of the roof where the old shingles weren't removed and I guess he thought I wouldn't notice, but that it simply cheating and fraud to save HIM a little bit of time and work. He knew and knows he didn't remove the old shingles and he should come back and make this right. I have had to contact (and I'll have to PAY FOR) another roofing person to come and evaluate this "crappy, crooked, lumpy job" to provide specifics on what was done or not done in accordance with the contract and what NEEDS FIXED since any concern(s) I brought up were simply ignored like I was just a stupid "woman" and don't know what I'm talking about. I don't know roofing but I certainly can see this doesn't look good much less professional. I'm sure Dale Martin (Shea's) won't come back and make this right and I'll have to pay someone else to do or undo what's been done. I sure don't see where any ridge vent was installed or edges capped or what the heck was done around the chimney that simply looks ridiculous? Oh and let me mention that no "mesh guard" was installed by Shea's as I requested and was in the contract...I assumed that would never be done and after the disaster with the roof I couldn't handle another problem. I went ahead and had the "Gutter Guys" install Gutter Gards. Oh and let me mention that from the time the roof was done on 09/28/2010 to the time the gutters/downspouts were done on 11/11/2010 - no magnet was used nor any cleanup of the nails, screws, other objects in my yard was done. I had to spend days on my hands and knees going thru my yard to pick up as much and I could find and when I showed my bucket full of nails, etc. to Dale Martin and complained about the cleanup he said well, I didn't run my magnet over your yard yet....from 9/28 to 11/11/2010 I was supposed to wait and just not step on anything, mow the lawn, have children, pets, step on it, etc.??? While I had a bucket of nails that certainly wasn't a complete, thorough clean up but HE NEVER RETURNED AT ALL TO TAKE THE MAGNET across the yard!!! I'm still crawling thru my yard and picking them up!! UPDATE: 12/15/2010 = I RECEIVED A BILL FROM "THE GUTTER GUYS" FOR THE PORTION DALE MARTIN (SHEA'S CONSTRUCTION) WAS SUPPOSED TO PAY!!! The Gutter Guys sent the bill to my address because that was where the work was done I guess. The bill had my name and Dale Martin's name on it and it was supposed to be paid by Shea's Construction as stated on my contract. He didn't come back to my house on 11/11/2010 as he promised to "The Gutter Guys" so he could PAY THEM and apparently he STILL HASN'T PAID THEM! Here's ANOTHER PROBLEM I have to deal with. I gave him the money, why hasn't he paid his subcontractor??
