I had an amazing experience with Shadel Roofing! We had a new roof installed on house, garage, front, and back porches. Also had gutters and gutter guards installed, along with four skylights. The guys were so polite and courteous, communicated any issues, cleaned up every bit of debris, worked hard all day long, and produced an amazing looking roof. I can't speak highly enough of my experience. Shadel was most competitively priced too. Highly recommend and suggest you look no further!

The entire process was smooth and the job went well. They showed up when they said they would, and did the work according to the contract. The crew was small - just two guys - but they did a great job and were very pleasant. There were a few places of rot that needed to be replaced but I was kept updated daily on the repairs and progress. The contract price was very good and there were no surprises. I chose Shadel Roofing because they had done a good bit of work in our neighborhood and were recommended by two different neighbors who used them. I would absolutely hire them again - but I'm sure I won't have to with this house!

Jim Bell, one of the roofers at Shadel Roofing, was always on time when I needed a service call. He is experienced and very knowledgeable about all aspects of roofing. I credit his expertise for calling to my attention the fact that I needed work done on my chimney which was leaking. Thank you!

Lowest of three quotes. Highest quality shingles. Prompt, professional, clean.

This is the worst roofer you can use. They left my roof with leakage problems. Manager even asked for help by other roofer that we choose and said he would wok with him. The manager never showed up and Shadel never returned calls. It therefor cost me over $3000 more to repair their mistakes. DO not use them for anything when comes to roof repair or new roofs.
Horrible to work with and they did not live up to their contract. I had 3 roofers come and give me estimates on the job Shadel Roofing did and they took pictures on the terrible job and then gave me estimates to repair the roof from what Shadel did.

"Not one thing in this review is the truth. We did the job on 8/25/09 not 2 years latter in 2011. The cost was 13,000. He even contradicts himself by saying $7,000 at the top then 15,000 in his review. When we meet with him to do the estimate he only wanted shingles installed because he had only received payment from his insurance company for those. We determined that the skylights were old and leaking at the flashing's and glass seals so we recommended he replace them. The house also has a 2nd story turret build in the middle of the house that had siding installed on 3 sides. We could see it had at least 30 to 40 tubes of caulk that had been used to try and stop the leaks. We recommended he replace the siding and the flashing's that ran up under and around it. He stated he wanted to save money because he was selling the home and only going to spend what he got from the insurance claim. There were many water stains inside on the ceilings at that time below these places. Our estimate stated that there was no warranty on these areas. 2 years went by and The customer contacted us and said he had many roof leaks. We meet with him and he showed us the same old water stains in the same areas that were not under warranty. The shingle roof was not leaking. We once again ask him to allow us to replace the siding and the flashing's under it along with the skylights. We told him we just wanted to make his roof leak free so we would do this work time and materials with no profit for the company. He refused and instead stated he just wanted 3,000 so he could fix the ceiling stains so he could sell the house. He had a sale sign in the front yard. Next we were contacted by his insurance company stating he had filed another claim for the roof. We meet with their adjuster and his roofing contractor. After a complete inspection he and his roofer agreed that the leaks were from the same places that leaked 2 years years ago and were not under warranty thru us. We were then contacted again 2 week latter and told he had new leaks in the garage. The night before we had 2 inches of rain. We went and meet with him and he showed us a bucket siting under what appeared to be a strange looking water stain. The 5 gallon bucket had 2 gallons of clear water in it yet the stain on the ceiling was brown. He once again did not want this leak looked into and fixed but just ask for money again. Since this all seamed strange we cut out the dry wall where the stain was and there was no stain or any thing wet on the back side of the drywall toward the roof. We had the roofer from the insurance company come out and look at this and he stated he has seen this before and it was called ragging. That is where someone uses a rag with some sort of brown liquid on it like ice tea to dab the ceiling to make it look like a leak. He reported this to the insurance company and they then called in an engineer to make an inspection. He confirmed that the shingle roof was installed properly and the problems were from the improper installation of the siding and the flashing around it and the skylights. This is exactly what we found. We have not heard anything from this customer or his insurance company until now. If his review was true he would have sued us long ago. He was just trying to get more money from us and his insurance. I do not understand why after so many years is he now giving us this review. It should be removed because it is completely false. We have all the pictures and letters to verify our reply."

I called for an estimate and received a quick and professional response. Since I live in a townhouse, I had to submit a request for approval and Shadel provided everything I needed to accompany my request. The work was completed as scheduled (the weather cooperated). The team that worked on my roof was polite and courteous and coordinated well with another company I had doing other work on my home's exterior. I was/am completely ignorant about roofing and all of my questions (even the simple & absurd ones) were answered professionally (without me feeling like an idiot for asking). Afterwards, my contractor that was doing other exterior work, commented that they did a nice job and that I had made a good choice in roofers.

Showed up when they said they were going to. Cleaned up each day, and were easy to work with. Would consider them again.

They came in with the lowest estimate and that’s why we ended up going with them. They were very good and cleaned everything up. I had no problems with them.

Gave a very fair est. and we contacted him with a few questions, he was VERY knowledgeable and also gave us 4 different houses to look at so my wife could choose a color. We had some bad rains so job got started a bit late, but understandable. The crew was effecient and did a great job on the roof and cleaned up everything. What a please to deal with.

He did an excellent job! Two men completed the work in just 2 days. I appreciated their efficiency and promptness. I contacted 5 companies for bids and they by far were the best quality. The price was reasonable and I couldn't be happier with the service!

They were professional and came out when they said they would. Once I confirmed that I will be going with them, they increased their quote. They cleaned up well after themselves.
Response from Shadel Roofing & Siding
"We made a typo on the member's original proposal. When he called to talk about the job we immediately recognized this and told him the correct price. He said he still wanted us to do the job and that was still his best price. The price was $4080 not $47000 as he stated. A new contract was mailed to him on 6/2/09 and it was good for 30 days. We gave him a start date of the first week in July. The member called us the end of June and ask us to delay the job until August because this was a rental property and he was having some cash flow problems. We agreed and said we would do the job the first week of August. We called the member the end of July to tell him we were starting the following week and he again ask us to delay the start until after Labor day (9/7/09). I ask him if is was because of cash flow problems and he stated that it was not but he was going on vacation for a month and wanted to be there when the job was done. I told him that this is the last delay that I would agree to because materials have been going up this summer every 2 weeks and this job was already going to cost us a lot more. We reschedule the job until after Labor day in September. We finally did the job on September 9th and 10th with the member present to watch. He stated after the job was done how pleased he was with everything and that he would use us again. The contact states that a customer has 10 days after completion of job to make full payment. We mailed out the final bill and warranty on 9/14 PM from Harrisburg to the member's address in Carlisle with a due date of 9/20. He would have received that no latter that 9/16. We had not received payment on time and I called the member on 9/22 and ask him why. He stated that he did not receive the bill until the day before (9/21, 7 days after it was mailed) and that he had 10 days from that date to pay it. I told him that it was 10 days after completion and not 10 days after he receives the bill and that I did not believe he just received it. He became irate and hung up on us. I sent out a certified letter that day 9/22 and he signed for it on 9/23 (1 day in the mail). He then sent us a check that PM 9/23 and we received it on 9/24 (1 day in the mail). We feel that the member has given us an unjust report and rating because we would not allow him to delay the job or payment for the job any longer. He gives us and A in Professionalism and Punctuality but yet and overall C. He also states that he would use us again. We have been in the business since 1950 and have seen these tricks before from landlords."
