The initial evaluation was conducted by a fellow who was very professional. The quote for services was a little higher than a competitor's, but the rate per 100 pounds was about three cents cheaper. So we decided to use their services. I was told that the gentleman's assistant would contact me prior to the move and cover all the details. About one week before our moving date, I contacted the assistant by email to verify that the date was still fine. She assured me that everything was fine and that she would call me the day before the move with all of the particulars. The day before our move, I still had not heard from her by 2:00 p.m., so I placed a call to her. She provided me with all of the details and confirmed my understanding of the moving process as outlined by the gentleman who had provided me with an estimate. On the day of the move, the movers were supposed to show up at my home between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. They arrived at 10:30 a.m. The assistant had told them that the move was local, yet we were moving over 2-1/2 hours away from our previous location. They got to work right away. The first problem occurred in the master bedroom. The agent and the assistant told us that the crew would take apart our beds and reassemble them for us. One of the crew members did not want to take the time to put our mattress protector on the mattress. My wife and I did the job ourselves. The next problem came when the same crew member tried to carry three boxes down a flight of steps from my daughter's room. The top box was clearly marked fragile. In his haste, the top box fell off the stack from halfway down the staircase, breaking my daughter's glass containers. Then he tried to argue with me that the box was not packed well. After that, everyone operated with a higher level of care. The crew was supposed to be at our destination around 4:00-4:30 p.m. They finally arrived at 6:00 p.m. The driver of the truck informed me that he had been given no paperwork regarding our move, and that he did not even know how much money he was supposed to collect. The estimate was for just over $2200. One of the crew members started to complain privately to the driver that the job should be more expensive than that. Fortunately, I had my paperwork, so the dispute came to a quick end. The driver came back to my new residence about halfway through the unloading process and informed me that my daughter's desk arrived safely, but the hutch was broken beyond repair. He asked me to write a simple note to the company representative explaining what had happened and he took it with him. The crew finally left our new residence at 9:00 p.m. The next morning, I removed the futon mattress from the frame to reposition the piece of furniture. I discovered that somehow the crew had managed to crack the frame of the futon itself. I could understand if one of the slats was broken. But the frame itself was cracked literally in half. It had been wedged back together when the futon was set up by the crew members, apparently in the hope that the problem would not be discovered for some time afterward. I had specifically inspected the futon frame the day before the move because it was made of cherry wood and I wanted to document any nicks or scratches in it before the movers handled it. The futon was fine before the move. I simply can't imagine what they did to the frame to cause it to crack in half to the extent that it did. Simply stated, after my experience, I would recommend that no one use this service until and unless it comes under new management. The communication between the moving coordinator and the client and the moving coordinator and the moving crew left much to be desired, and the crew treated our property in a cavalier way.
