AUTO SEAT COVER CO

I used this company once before when they were located on Cameron Street. For about $150, they replaced the seat only on the driver's side with a gray vinyl. I felt the cost was fair, and the work was completed in a timely fashion. It was of high quality. Turn the clock forward about 3 years, and the firm has moved to a new location on Paxton Street, the cost doubles, and the quality of the finished work is, well, mediocre at best. I let it go, because I was repairing the seat so I can resell it. I met with the manager at the end of the work day to discuss the work to be done. But first, I had to wait over a half hour while he spoke with another client and took multiple phone calls. Two other workers in the shop but I guess no one else could help me. No one even polite enough to inquire if they could help me. Eventually, I spoke with the manager and explained that I wanted the seat only to be replaced with the same color as the remaining leather in the seat back. He gave me a ball park verbal estimate of $200-300 depending on the labor needed. I explained how I paid just $150 3 years earlier, and I expected it to be more expensive but not double the cost. He basically shrugged his shoulders and gave me some excuse about costs being higher now. But since I could find no other auto upholsterer in the area, I let him do the work. We scheduled a day for me to drop off the car. No written estimate was given. I picked up the car at the end of the day we had scheduled. Again, I had to wait a long time to talk to the manager so I could pick up my car. I foget how long exactly, but enough that I remember being quite irritated. So I go to inspect the work and the gray does not match either the driver seat nor the leather on the passenger seat. It was clearly much lighter in color. On top of that there was a wrinkle near the back of the seat and a gap that should have been covered with the vinyl. Even the decorative stitching is not the same as the driver seat which they had duplicated to perfection with the original seat stitching. He said the wrinkle would go away as it was used. Frankly, I was angry. Sloppy workmanship. Color did not match. And he had already told me the cost was $297.16; $262.50 for labor. IF this had been a car that I intended to keep and use for a while, I would have insisted it be redone and refuse to pay the invoice. But I was selling the car, knew I was not getting more than $1-2,000 anyway for it; so I just accepted it. Maybe I should have raised a stink. But I was just so angry, I wanted out of this place. I will never go back. Horrible workmanship and awful customer service. They stay in busines because they have no competition. Even dealerships use them.
