Sycamore Landscaping ripped out our old cement walkway and replaced it with a new curved flagstone pathway. They also covered our cement porch floor with flagstone and put in a railing for my safety. Then they created a flagstone patio (10x10') in the back yard coming straight off of the sliding doors of the house, and repaired 1/4 of our driveway with new asphalt. Finally, they did some minor landscaping. The job was delayed by about a week because of inclement weather that delayed jobs before ours. When they arrived they worked almost everyday until all work was completed. The stones of the walkway were all laid well and the joint compound was put in. The following day I noticed that some of the stones were not smoothly jointed. Meaning, I could trip on them. I had to tell Chris, the owner that this, unfortunately, had to be repaired because the whole point of having the job done was so I would not trip. I know this made a lot of extra work for the guys who had done it, because they basically had to do it all again. But, it couldn't be avoided. We were very clear at the start of the job about why we were having the work done. The job came out beautifully! Both the front walkway and the back. The guys worked hard to make everything safe. They thought of things I could never have anticipated! They were very thoughtful and kind. The only problem was that once the work was completed we noticed stones starting to pop up. One here, one there. Eventually a good chunk of stones came loose on the walkway. We told Chris about it and he was very responsive. Every time we contacted him, he sent someone to fix it. This went on for about a month, but he always responded and they were repaired. It's been about one month since the last stone came loose and so far so good. Everything looks nice and feels good to walk on. It's late January. We've had the temperature drop and some snow. I'm hoping we'll really be able to enjoy it all in the Spring!

Did steps down from the deck, all the bushes and beds around the pool.  They were quick and great pricing and very nice to work with.  We now use them for our summer yard work.

Awful. I wouldn't hire them to dig a ditch. It should be noted I did not hire them, the builder did. I wasn't expecting a golf course but what they did was shameful. My lawn was left with boulders in it. It looked like a battlefield. They even buried a bag of glass I had them get when they came back. I made the builder send them back once after that I said screw it. They're hopeless. I'm getting there little by little. It'll take years and $$ to get it decent. Sad part is how easy it is with a box blade to do it right the first time.
Response from Sycamore Landscaping Inc
"Well first of all I would like to ask has the owner ever purchased a brand new home? Anyone who has, understands a "golf course" lawn takes time, money and work. Nate, your builder, goes above and beyond to make sure his customers are happy and that's why we here at Sycamore work with him. This review has been exaggerated to an unrealistic state. A buried bag of glass?! Your lot was a wooded area, probably logged a few times in the past 100 years by loggers. It is unreasonable to expect a landscaping company to dig up and find everything that was ever put there. Your lot is also in a granite deposit belt off of the well know ridge above Green Lane. It is unreasonable to thing that you'd want us to remove every rock too. The builder even went above and beyond by paying to have the lawn limed and fertilized during seeding due to the wooded nature of your lot. 1 out of 10 builders would actually pay for this. Another big misconception is that topsoil doesn't have rocks in it. It does and your builder never removes the topsoil that was there. We put back what is moved to build your home. We till and rake the rocks off the top but one heavy rain before the seed has fully germinated will reveal more rocks and so on. If you would like the entire property to be 8 inches of screened topsoil that will be $50.00 per yard installed! One yard will cover 100-150 ft2. Therefore, this review is unfortunate because their expectations were unrealistic and near impossible."

Chris responded promptly to my inquiry, came out within a week of my initial contact and very patiently walked through our property with me, listening to all of the concerns I had about the overgrown shrubs, out of control flower beds and lack of grass in the front, side and back of our property. He understood immediately what I wanted to accomplish and took pictures so he could use software to send me his ideas after our discussion. Chris spent a good couple of weeks going back and forth with me on different ideas and designs - he was incredibly efficient, handled all of my questions and suggestions politely as we went along and always made me feel very comfortable with all of the decisions we made together as we edited the design in cooperation. Once we decided on the final project plan, we worked through what I thought was a very fair price for what I considered to be a pretty comprehensive project and within a few weeks, were on his schedule. Not only was Chris impressive on the front end, but the guys who came to do the installation work far exceeded any of my expectations. Aside from being neat, efficient, quick, thorough and talented they were courteous, friendly and mannerly. I was blown away. I can't think of any contractors, within any industry who have ever done work for me before who were so professional. I can't recommend this company highly enough - I am beyond happy with the results, but moreover unexpectedly impressed with the professionalism of the guys and how easy and seamless Chris made the entire experience. Definitely do not hesitate to use them.

Chris and his team are AMAZING, according to my co-worker. She cannot rave about them enough. From the first contact in discussing and designing what she wanted all the way through completion of the work, fantastic experience! They delivered exactly what they promised. After their work was completed they continued to help her deal with unforeseen issues with her Homeowners Association and because of their professionalism and a mutually beneficial resolution was reached.

We have been using this company for the past couple of years for lawn maintenance/ mowing services and were very pleased with the work and so decided to give them the hardscaping job. Sycamore landscaping and it's owner Chris did an outstanding job throughout the process from the estimation to the installation. Chris returned our calls and our requests for estimates very promptly and provided valuable and practical design suggestions. The crew started and completed the work on time, on budget and delivered a very high quality and fabulous looking product and all that for a very reasonable price. They also did a great job of cleaning up the place every day after work and after project completion. Chris and the installation crew are very down to earth and easy to deal with and were very open to the minor design/ scope changes that we had during the process. They delivered above and beyond our expectations. We will definitely continue to avail of their services and strongly recommend them to others.

We live in a twin in the northern suburbs. We have a front, side, and back yard. The shrubs in the front of the house were old and drab. Trimming was not the solution - we tried that. A redesign was necessary. Unfortunately, the soil in this area is awful - very rocky with a thin layer of top soil. I can hardly dig down more than 8-12" without being stopped by the rocks. Clearly, this was a job for a landscaper for their ideas and their manpower.

We found Sycamore (owned by Chris Reed) at a display in the Oaks PA home show in March. My wife and I wanted to give his company a shot because they had a nice display (consistent with our tastes) and they were clearly a smaller company (that we like to support). We emailed Sycamore and another company we saw at the home show with a request for an estimate at the same time. Chris responded within a day with times he could come out. The other company never responded.

On the day of the estimate, Chris was punctual and professional. He was interested in what we wanted, took pictures and told us he would get back to us with some ideas. A few days later, I received an email with a picture of his proposal. This really helped my wife and I visualize the plant bed. Chris' proposal had some style (that my wife and I would not have thought about if we had done it ourselves) without getting crazy. From his website, he clearly has the ability for more extravagant ideas. We appreciated his restraint in our job.

We have a large, sick tree in the back yard; the question was whether it was worth it to save it or take it out. When I asked if there was anything he could do for the tree, Chris did not hesitate to say that he would have to do some research and get back to me. He took pictures of the tree. Ultimately, it appears he collaborated and came back with a very reasonable plan to treat it without spending a ridiculous amount of money. Time will tell if it worked. If it doesn't work, I do not feel like the $$ was too much to put towards the effort.

In the back yard, we have a 25' section of the yard that meets the house. Over time, the ground has settled and this resulted in the grading going towards the house instead of away. To address the problem, Chris gave us three estimates; one for top soil, one for river rock and top soil, and one for pavers. Although the pavers were reasonably priced, we chose the middle option - river rock and top soil.

After agreeing on the details, Chris sent us his estimate that detailed his work. We scheduled a start date according to his availability (which I am sure becomes more difficult as we get deeper into the season).

The crew came in and ripped out the old vegetation on the first day (what must have been a miserable job). The whole job was completed in 3 days (while we were at work). Every day they worked, they left the yard totally clean. Other than the work that was being performed, it was difficult to see that anyone had been there.

After completion, my wife had some questions and spoke with Chris within 24 hours of asking him to call. Because she wanted the shrubs trimmed differently, he came in the day after speaking to her and completed the request.

Our interaction with Chris was clean and professional. He proved to be very responsive to our requests and clearly answered any of our questions.

We thought he did a great job at a very reasonable price!
