Dennis Gehman founded Gehman Design Remodeling (GDR) in 1990 in a basement office in his home. Since that time, Gehman has grown to over 20 dedicated professionals providing quality design and remodeling services to homeowners throughout the southeastern Pennsylvania area. GDR offers a full range of remodeling services, specializing in kitchens, baths and room additions. The company offers a unique five-year guarantee on labor (structural elements are guaranteed for ten years). Gehman is the only remodeling firm in the area that offers such a guarantee. GDR also has a skilled Project Manager approach to managing client projects, ensuring completion of projects to client specifications. GDR is well-respected within the industry, having twice been named National Contractor of the Year by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI). Gehman also employs the most NARI-Certified Lead Carpenters of all other companies in southeastern Pennsylvania. A positive experience! We entered into a contract with Gehman Design Remodeling after experiencing a flood in our “NEW” home. Dennis Gehman’s extensive construction knowledge and kind demeanor helped calm my fears about the process. Steve and his crew put our house back together better than before. They completed the work in 12 days, where as other Contractors quoted 5-6 weeks. They was never any downtime during the project due to all trades being in house. The tidiness and craftsmanship of the crew exceeded my expectations. We look forward to using Gehman for future remodeling projects!

I hired this company to create a new kitchen design. The company rep was very easy to work with and he did come up with a very good design for my kitchen. I was planning on hiring this company to complete the remodeling work, however; the price quoted for the work was well above my budget. I found another contractor who came up with a different acceptable design (no charge) and is able to complete the kitchen remodel work within my budgeted amount. Gehman has an excellent reputation for their design and workmanship. If my house was worth over $500K I would most likely have hired them to do the remodeling work.

Dennis Gehman is an extremely professional person and I commend him for that. My issue is mostly with the price quoted to the do the work. Given the small condo kitchen I am working with, the quote seemed exorbitant.. I also did not like the fact that I was not provided electronic version of the cabinet measurements and was given just a paper printout of the drawings.

They were prompt. I have not gone back for the drawing and the presentation. But they came on time as scheduled. Couldn't say more about them. I am planning to go back to them the coming week to see the plans that they have done. But nothing is their fault because we had changes in our schedules. Everything they have done so far has been excellent. I have nothing great to say about them.

From the beginning meetings to the design and construction, the Gehman group was a pleasure to work with. Everyone that we dealt with was extremely professional. The team communicated with us and deadlines were met. We knew exactly what to expect in terms of work performed and they put in extra effort to be helpful to us. The work performed was outstanding. Workers were prompt and polite. My family felt comfortable having them in our home for approximately 8 weeks. They quickly responded to our questions and any problems we had were rapidly corrected. We would look forward to having more work performed by them in the future.

Gehman was very thorough, designed the kitchen then did all the work very carefully. They cleaned uop after themselves every day no real mess. Was a big job they did a great job!!

What we liked about them in particular, was that they were here every single day, no matter what the weather was, they guaranteed, once they started with us, they were going to stay with us every single day, and that was true, bad weather too. They started early spring, but it went into cold weather, it took several months. We liked their straightforwardness, their professional, their honesty, and everything about them. I would definitely go back to Gehman, if I had to have more remodeling done. They are not the cheapest, but they do beautiful work. They take pride in their work, and I think we got good value for what we paid. We lived in the house while they were doing the work. They accommodated us while they were working on it. When they were working on the downstairs, we stayed in one room upstairs, and when they started working on the 1st floor, we moved to the basement, and they gave us our privacy.

Got a quote from them about a year ago on a bathroom remodel. We have a townhouse and I guess he could see right away that the job wasn't huge. He would not even wait 10 minutes until my husband came home, he left and sent us an informal estimate (probably didn't think we were good for it) about 10K over every other quote. More $$ for less customer service. Didn't even consider them for the remodel.

We called Gehman as one of the contractors to price our full master bathroom remodel. The owner's son came out and spent a lot of time asking questions and listening to our ideas. I felt that he discussed the project with us until he had a clear understanding of what we wanted. We gave him our budget number of $30,000 and we were told that we could get the remodel we were hoping for around that number. Before we were brought in to hear the estimate, the salesman brought Mr Gehman over to make sure he was giving us the right numbers etc. We went in to look at materials and we spent a lot of time choosing things, discussing the materials etc. At that point, we were asked to give them an $1,800 retainer. We would normally not do this but again we thought that this was our contractor and we were all working within the stated budget so we did give them a check. A few days later, we were called in to go over the numbers and we were shocked to find that the budget number did not include such "extras" as a shower door, permits, painting, light fixtures and door handles etc etc. The materials included were also low priced as if our budget could not include even mid-quality materials. When we added up what the total would be for these "extras", our project was nearly $10,000 more than our budget number!
Had this company told us that we couldn't get the remodel we all understood we were looking for in our stated price range, we would have said thank you and parted company pleasantly. However, the fact that they told us that only after giving them a non-refundable retainer was a bit unsettling. We own a small business and we understand that it costs money to court new clients but that is a part of doing business. Let's just say that whether this was a pricing mistake on their part or just bad business practices, it caused us to go elsewhere and, more importantly, caused us to caution friends, family and neighbors to steer clear of these people.
I realize that this all happened quite some time ago. We are livid that we weren't given a refund on our $1,800 retainer as the quote was SO far off our budget. I realize that this all happened over a year ago. I have had this review written since it happened but didn't send because of a professional relationship with someone close to the Gehman family. However I really feel that people considering this company should be aware that their business practices may be a bit suspect and people should be careful before giving them such a large retainer. Most other companies are asking $250 - $500 as this retainer with the same budget.
By the way, we got a stunning, professional remodel from another very reputable company for our original budget projection.

I think they were fairly priced for my area, but I think it was on the high end. They do good quality work, we did have some creation issues, and they resolved them without too much problem. Most of the time it was done over the phone, and email. Once in a while, I would go to their office for meetings, they were on time.

We needed advice, but none was offered by the rep, even when we asked for it. It took a couple of weeks to receive an estimate which was incomplete, but it seemed too high, even for an upscale company like Gehman. We had the impression that they were not interested in our project. We chose another contractor and spent $70,000 on our kitchen and master bath.
