Manicures/Nails
I went to Fancy Nails to get a mani/pedi with a gift certificate that I received a while back. I called in the morning to make an appointment for that day and had no trouble getting in. The pedicure massage chair was not soothing or comfortable at all, even after adjusting it. The floor behind the pedicure chairs was all torn up - a man apologized and said that they had a water leak earlier that day and he tried to fix it. The woman who performed the pedicure did not use hardly any pressure when massaging my feet and legs (usually my favorite part of the whole experience). We relocated to her station for the manicure. She cleaned up my cuticles and buffed and filed my nails, then asked me to pay first before polish. I happily gave her my gift certificate, and she told me it was expired and she would not accept it. I argued, and told her that I know other shops that would accept their gift certificates no matter how much time has passed. She said that she would give me half, no more. It was a gift certificate for $37, and she rounded up to $19. The pedicure there is $27, which is $2 higher than most places in the neighborhood. She would not budge. She also tried to charge me for the manicure, saying that all that was left to finish was the polish. I told her that we were finished for today, and that not honoring my gift certificate is against the law. She'd already received payment for services that I did not receive. I gave her $8 additional dollars to cover the $27, and walked out. While walking to the car, I could feel how rough my fingernails were, as I do not have artificial nails, but short, real nails that I always file and polish myself. I also remembered that she said she was about to polish my nails without applying lotion or giving me a hand massage. I was extremely disappointed, and not accepting my gift certificate, which apparently expired at the end of June, is simply bad business. I would have thought that a local nail shop would offer better customer service to local clients than this. I came home, refiled my short, little nails, and didn't get to apply polish until the next day when I could sit and let them dry. Such a disappointment for a girl who doesn't get her nails done all that often.
