"thank you for taking the time to review our company. I did reach out to your home number to see for some additional comments."
"We are quite surprised by this negative review...since we advised you that there is a $49.00 service charge to come to your home for an estimate and if you move forward with the work, we credit the $49.00. If you were unhappy about that, you had an opportunity to let us know when we called you to follow up on our service visit to your home yesterday. We have serviced this area for over 83 years and pride ourselves on honesty, integrity and our workmanship."
"Thank you for your kind review...we appreciate your business. Have a great day!"
"We will be contacting you shortly, as this is the first time that I had knowledge that there was a problem. Thank you for bringing it to our attention."
Finally, a few weeks ago I decided to seek another opinion so I called PECO and had another audit done. The results were very different than what we got from O'Donnell but I still had questions about the unit itself. A contractor that is associated with PECO called me and asked me some questions about my situation. I told him, like I had told O'Donnell, that I was trying to find out if the uneven heat distribution was a result of the furnace not being up to the task or if it was other aspects of the house. He told me that I could do a simple "tissue" test that would give a pretty good indication if it had to do with the unit. He said the "tissue" test would show whether or not there was "return side air restriction" in the furnace.
This afternoon I called O'Donnell. I told Jill that PECO had done an audit and that this test had been recommended to me by one of their contractors. I wanted to know if the test was a reasonable approach and if O'Donnell might possibly perform the test for me if it sounded at all logical. Once again Jill offered to send someone to our house. I told her that might be fine but that I would like to talk to someone first because the test could very well be unnecessary. It was my feeling that an expert, especially the people who had installed the unit, would know exactly what to expect from this test, or if not, then they would come and do the test for me. I asked once again to talk to Mr. O'Donnell or a manager. She said John, a technician, had just driven up, she would talk to him and that either he or she would call me back.
I received a callback within 15 minutes and boy was I surprised!! Jill told me that she had talked to John, the technician, and they had decided that since I had no faith or trust in them, they felt it was time that I just move on and take my business elsewhere! I was floored. She accused me of calling someone else and "going back and forth," which I had not done. I only called PECO to get a second opinion on the audit and the contractor had called me, not the other way around. I probably never would have even called PECO if someone would have just talked to me when I called repeatedly to talk to a technician! Besides, would I be a good consumer if I *didn't* get a second opinion?! The two audits came up with very different conclusions.
This was the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I look for mutual respect when I choose service providers. Today I lost all respect for O'Donnell Heating & Plumbing. I was being honest and straightforward with them and they in turn treated me like an unwanted stray dog. I learn from my mistakes and I will not be calling them again.
I called another place for an estimate and he laughed at the prices O'Donnell was charging! Their estimates were about $400 cheaper for all parts and labor!
I will NEVER call them again!
"We have tried to reach this customer by telephone call to resolve, since we are upset by the remarks made and shared via social media. Our employee was polite and provided an estimate for what the replacement costs would be. Since we had a relationship, I would have hoped that a telephone call was made to our office to resolve this matter."
Request was for replacement of a Polaris/American HE water heater that powers DHW and two radiant floor loops. I had done my research on availability and pricing of same model unit before getting estimates.
Technician commented that he was not familiar with this type of system upon seeing it. Took a camera phone pic and said he'd have an estimate for me in 20 minutes. Came back from his truck and we sat on the porch to review the estimate.
Estimate was a single number ($5942.85) even though I'd asked for itemization of parts and labor. I asked if the price was negotiable based on my knowledge that this unit sells to the public at $2400 even though original list price was double that. Technician said at best they'd be able to take a couple hundred off. I explained that I understand companies have overhead and need to make money on parts and asked if labor on this job was really almost $3K. Existing install was nicely done with shut-off valves and union fittings at every supply and return point.
Ultimately we couldn't agree on a price. My number was $3500, but it seemed clear we were too far apart.
I ended up ordering a heater for $2400 and installing myself. Install took 3 hours and there were not difficulties or complications.
I know many companies hate DIY people, but I was willing to pay almost $1K over what I could do it myself for, not $3K.
Despite that we were unable to reach a deal, O'Donnell's service was prompt and professional.
"Thank you for taking the time to acknowledge that our service technician was prompt and professional. I am sorry that we not able to agree on price."
The new unit was installed on Tuesday, July 1st. On Thursday evening, July 3rd, the air conditioning stopped working. It was already after hours, but Ray (another field service technician with the company) returned my call within 40 minutes, and was out at my house within the hour of my initial call to O'Donnell's. He went over every inch of the unit and compressor. By the time he got to the compressor, it was already dark outside. Yet he kept doing his inspection by flashlight until he found the problem (and was very gracious and responsive as I stood and watched him and asked him all sorts of questions about how the unit worked). The sensor in the compressor was defective. It would work for a few hours and then shut off. If it had not been the eve of the three day July 4th weekend, I would have had the new part the next day. However, because of the holiday weekend the warehouse was closed, so Ray couldn't get the replacement part until Monday (even though he did try to see if he could find one over the weekend). He told me that if necessary he would come out every couple of hours during the three day weekend to keep my air conditioning going. Luckily, the entire three day weekend was very comfortable and not at all hot, so I didn't need the air conditioning. However, Ray called over the weekend to see how I was doing, and would definitely have come over had I needed him.
Ray went to pick up the replacement part first thing Monday morning, and by noon he was at my house installing it. He then again thoroughly checked out the entire unit to make sure everything was working properly. He also came again on Friday for another thorough checkup of the unit.
My air conditioning is now working fine. O'Donnell's service and field service technicians are excellent, and I plan to continue to do business with them. I know that they pride themselves on their service, and they have a great deal to be proud of.
"Thank you very much. I will pass your kind words on to our entire O'Donnell Team."
Really feel like I was taken advantange of. I am not debating the quality of the work, just the rate. Wish I could work for $444 for 15 minutes.
Will never use them again, they took advantage of me and I will tell my neighbors to avoid them at all cost.
"Left message for customer to see how I can make you happy with our services."
"Thank you for our "A" we appreciate great customers like you and look forward to being your comfort specialist!"
"Many thanks for taking your time to review our services that we provided in your home. We appreciate the "A" !"
