I had used O'Donnell for an emergency repair some years ago and was well satisfied. This time, the plumber came within 2 hours for a repair that was not an emergency, surveyed the situation and gave estimates for this work and a less necessary job that I was considering. I decided to go with the shower repair which was performed promptly and restored the operation completely. The second job, I felt was over priced and declined to pursue it. The work was very well done. The price was I believe at the upper end of typical. The cost for a house call $79 was not waived.

They were great. They showed me pictures of what was wrong so I didn't have to take their word for it. The pricing for the tuneup was okay but the estimate for a replacement they were high. They were good. I would use them again for a tuneup. They were professional, they were courteous and they were knowledgeable. As for replacement costs they were higher but for checking and maintenance they are great.

We called after the office was closed on a Friday evening and their technician was here within the hour. Excellent customer service.

All went well save for being charged $549 for a $103.95 thermostat.  I cannot help but wonder about the other charges.

My husband and I moved to PA a year ago and we have used O'Donnell for our furnace maintenance and inspections because they were the ones who installed the furnace 4 years ago. We noticed that our second floor was never warm enough, even when we turned the thermostat up to 75º. They recommended an audit, which we did, but the results weren't very satisfactory. I called and asked to speak to a technician because I wanted to find out information about the unit itself - such as the capacity, efficiency of the particular model, and talk about the size of the ducts. Jill, the person who always answers the phone, would not let me speak to anyone. She was only willing to send someone to my house. I placed a couple of calls, trying to speak to a technician or the owner, and I was rebuffed each time. I got more frustrated with each call.
Finally, a few weeks ago I decided to seek another opinion so I called PECO and had another audit done. The results were very different than what we got from O'Donnell but I still had questions about the unit itself. A contractor that is associated with PECO called me and asked me some questions about my situation. I told him, like I had told O'Donnell, that I was trying to find out if the uneven heat distribution was a result of the furnace not being up to the task or if it was other aspects of the house. He told me that I could do a simple "tissue" test that would give a pretty good indication if it had to do with the unit. He said the "tissue" test would show whether or not there was "return side air restriction" in the furnace.
This afternoon I called O'Donnell. I told Jill that PECO had done an audit and that this test had been recommended to me by one of their contractors. I wanted to know if the test was a reasonable approach and if O'Donnell might possibly perform the test for me if it sounded at all logical. Once again Jill offered to send someone to our house. I told her that might be fine but that I would like to talk to someone first because the test could very well be unnecessary. It was my feeling that an expert, especially the people who had installed the unit, would know exactly what to expect from this test, or if not, then they would come and do the test for me. I asked once again to talk to Mr. O'Donnell or a manager. She said John, a technician, had just driven up, she would talk to him and that either he or she would call me back.
I received a callback within 15 minutes and boy was I surprised!! Jill told me that she had talked to John, the technician, and they had decided that since I had no faith or trust in them, they felt it was time that I just move on and take my business elsewhere! I was floored. She accused me of calling someone else and "going back and forth," which I had not done. I only called PECO to get a second opinion on the audit and the contractor had called me, not the other way around. I probably never would have even called PECO if someone would have just talked to me when I called repeatedly to talk to a technician! Besides, would I be a good consumer if I *didn't* get a second opinion?! The two audits came up with very different conclusions.
This was the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I look for mutual respect when I choose service providers. Today I lost all respect for O'Donnell Heating & Plumbing. I was being honest and straightforward with them and they in turn treated me like an unwanted stray dog. I learn from my mistakes and I will not be calling them again.

O'Donnell's arrived the next day with my new heating/air conditioning unit and compressor.  The installers were Gary and Robert, and they were both extremely professional and competent.  Gary has been taking care of my heating, air conditioning, and plumbing for almost a year, and I've been very happy dealing with him.
The new unit was installed on Tuesday, July 1st.  On Thursday evening, July 3rd, the air conditioning stopped working.  It was already after hours, but Ray (another field service technician with the company) returned my call within 40 minutes, and was out at my house within the hour of my initial call to O'Donnell's.  He went over every inch of the unit and compressor. By the time he got to the compressor, it was already dark outside. Yet he kept doing his inspection by flashlight until he found the problem (and was very gracious and responsive as I stood and watched him and asked him all sorts of questions about how the unit worked).  The sensor in the compressor was defective. It would work for a few hours and then shut off.  If it had not been the eve of the three day July 4th weekend, I would have had the new part the next day.  However, because of the holiday weekend the warehouse was closed, so Ray couldn't get the replacement part until Monday (even though he did try to see if he could find one over the weekend).  He told me that if necessary he would come out every couple of hours during the three day weekend to keep my air conditioning going.  Luckily, the entire three day weekend was very comfortable and not at all hot, so I didn't need the air conditioning.  However, Ray called over the weekend to see how I was doing, and would definitely have come over had I needed him.
Ray went to pick up the replacement part first thing Monday morning, and by noon he was at my house installing it.  He then again thoroughly checked out the entire unit to make sure everything was working properly.  He also came again on Friday for another thorough checkup of the unit.
My air conditioning is now working fine.  O'Donnell's service and field service technicians are excellent, and I plan to continue to do business with them. I know that they pride themselves on their service, and they have a great deal to be proud of.

they showed up at the exact time they said they would be there. took a look at the job and said it would cost $444.00. I figured it must have been a much more serious repair than i thought, no details were shared with me. I agreed, reluctantly, and said yes. he started the repair and was done in just under 15 minutes. The paperwork took longer than the repair, and for 15 minutes of work, I was charged $444.00.
Really feel like I was taken advantange of. I am not debating the quality of the work, just the rate. Wish I could work for $444 for 15 minutes.
Will never use them again, they took advantage of me and I will tell my neighbors to avoid them at all cost.

Our toilet broke, and we called O'Donnell to fix it.  We had used them once before and thought they did a good job on a more complicated problem even though they were expensive.  In this case, they indicated the price would be $180, but then after the work was completed increased their charge to $250 (claiming the labor and parts were not covered by the original quote).  This was to replace a toilet mechanism.  If we hadn't been so busy, we probably could have replaced it ourself.  It took them approx 20 minutes to complete the work once they picked up an inexpensive part.   This was bogus -- we will not work with them again.
Response from O'Donnell Plumbing Heating Air Conditioning
"We apologize for any lack of communication on our part. Our technicians came out within one hour of your initial call, which was in November and we always tell the customer exactly what the pricing will be before we start any repair. So Again we apologize for any lack of communication on our part concerning the amount. We did call you the next day to see if you were happy and satisfied 100% and we did not receive a phone call back so we did not know of your feelings until 4 months later. We are committed to our customers satisfaction and will continue to learn from our customers comments."

They could not have been any nicer on the phone or in person. I called in the morning when we had no heat and they came that afternoon. They called in advance and were on time and polite. They appear to be very knowledgable as well. My problem came when I was given the price of over $500 for the job which seemed high but like most people I know nothing about these particular jobs. I looked up the item price and it was $39. I guess the other five hundred was for labor. I asked a friend who happened to have the same work done last year and was told that was a crazy price. This was the price just for the fix nothing else was purchased or done. I went ahead and told them they could finish as they had already started but addressed the price and was told they have flat rates and aren't the cheapest company but don't claim to be. He was very polite about it. I did however call two other area companies and got an estimate for the exact job. I was sure not to tell them it was to compare as I wanted an idea of their regular price. The first company quoted the job at $240 and the second at $225. I was originally going to get a service contract but I declined it as there is no way I want to always question the cost. In all fairness to them they did reduce the job cost to $425. That's still double though. They also didn't charge me an $89 service charge they normally charge if you don't have a service contract with them. If not for the excessive cost I would call these people every time! I'm even willing to pay more for a good job but I can't justify double. It's a shame because he was even good about explaining the unit and things he thought I'd need in the future.
Response from O'Donnell Plumbing Heating Air Conditioning
"Hi [member name removed], We are a flat rate company and there is never a time where we do not discuss pricing with the customer first before completing any work. We are sorry that you feel our price did not compare to other companies, but getting a quote on the phone for a problem that was already diagnosed by our technician would be a lesser price. That company did not have to diagnose your system to make sure of why you had a gas odor. Our goal is to be committed 100% to customer satisfaction and would love to speak to you in person to resolve any questions you may have and assure you of any doubts."
