Harvey The Handyman

Harvey is a bully and a political extremeist. He seems to have aggression twoards anyone who does not fall inline with his beliefs. He is very hard to deal with and his communication is just awful! Very low qualty results as well.

We were utterly disappointed with Handyman Harvey. He was very unprofessional and rude. He quoted us one price and then tried to charge double. We hired him to clean gutters on two homes within a mile from each other. He originally told us that he would charge his 2 hour minimum (@ $75 per hour) total, which would cover both houses. It took several weeks before anyone showed up to do the work, and when someone did, it wasn't Harvey! Harvey sent someone else and the guy didn't even have identification, just showed up and started climbing up on the roof. He never knocked on the door or told us who he was. I only figured out it wasn't Harvey because I called him "Harvey" and then he told me he wasn't Harvey (but still didn't give his name). He obviously wasn't expecting to work very long because we noticed he had his 2 young children sitting in the car while he worked. When we received the invoice from Harvey, he tried to charge us for 3 hours of work. Considering that it only took 20 minutes for the guy to do the gutters on the bigger of the two houses (and we were home while he was doing it), we were surprised that Harvey was charging us for 3 hours. Admittedly, we were waiting to send the check until my husband had a chance to talk with this guy. In the meantime, Harvey called me to ask where the check was. When I tried to tell him that we had concerns about the invoice, he immediately cut me off and told me that he wasn't lowering the price and should have charged us $300 instead, but was "cutting us a break" by charging only 3 hours (which, again, there was no way it took 3 hours to clear out the gutters). When my husband called him back to discuss it, he became irate with my husband and told him he'd take $150 but to not contact him again for any other jobs and then promptly hung up on my husband. No need to worry about that, Harvey--we won't be using you ever again! Bottom line: DO NOT USE THIS GUY!! You will be very disappointed (and probably screamed at for asking any questions)!

Work was fine but condescending attitude. I would call him back bc of his comments and attitude not bc of his work. He lives right in my neighborhood but the guy just doesn't make you want to deal with him personally. He's also not cheap. I thought his work was overpriced.

Gave verbal quote, nothing written down. Final price twice as much as he said. Became angry, defensive, verbally unprofessional. Look at other Angie's list comments; see his reaction to anyone who makes non-positive comments about him or his work.

Harvey sent his son, I believe, who did a fine job. He was professional and neat and understood what I needed done. The repair was effective in keeping unwanted visitors from occupying our attic crawlspace. Both Harvey and his staff inspired confidence and I will keep his number close so I can use him again in the future.

They are great. I've used them 3 times.They are very professional and the job is very good. They charge an hourly rate but I use him all day so there is a flat fee. He is responsive and they do a variety of things. They hang pictures and things like that. He has done a small patio in the back so they are pretty versatile. Their prices are fair. I will definitely call if I need them again.

He does everything. He does dry walling, painting, he cleans the gutters. He does flooring like floor tiles and staff. His workers did cleanup after themselves. His not really expensive.

Very Professional, Knowledge, Helpful, Had Excellent Suggestions

It sort of went well. I thought they were great, very friendly, prompt, and a lot of the job was done efficiently and fast, but some of it was not completed to my liking, but I did not call and tell them about that.

Came right out and confirmed that faucet needed to be replaced. Was booked up and when realized I needed the work done quickly Harvey actually called another handyman to get the job done for me rather than making me wait for his plumber to free up.

Owner Harvey came out to estimate job. Very knowledgeable. No pressure, in fact recommended that we delay certain tasks to a later date. Harvey's son came out to do the work. He was efficient, courteous, and did a very nice job. Drywall repair in house looked as though wall was never damaged. He had to replace a 6and quot; x 10and quot; section of drywall. He also repaired a 20and quot; x 36and quot; section of drywall in garage ceiling and repair damaged joints between ceiling drywall boards. All work nicely done. Stained a heavily weathered set of stairs from house to patio. He did several coats so that the stain was uniform. Looks great. BTW, they come out in a clean, professional looking van. All in all a very competent and thorough job. He cleaned up nicely afterwards. You wouldn't have known he was there. Based on this experience I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Harvey the Handyman for general house repairs and painting.

I find Angie's List to have a reliable list of service providers so I am usually confident when I hire someone from her list. Today I saw a deal for Harvey the Handyman which was 2 hours work for $150. I read his reviews and he is highly rated so I paid my money and sent him an email letting him know where I live and that my hours are flexible. I received an email back from Harvey letting me know I am too far away for him to travel. Just so you know this would be a trip of 13 miles and at a low traffic time could take 30 to 40 minutes. I am aware there is lots of work out there for an excellent handyman and they can be choosy about the jobs they take. However this is the reason I utilize Angie's List because I wish to eliminate the uncertainty of having to deal with such issues. I sent Harvey an email voicing my displeasure. I also spoke to someone at Angie's List and requested a refund. Harvey called me which I appreciated. He explained he usually does not work beyond a specific area and I told him he should make sure those that sign up for his deal know that upfront. He seemed confused by the $150 special and said he thought he may have offered it but blamed the List for the misunderstanding and said I should take it up with them. Frankly I was irritated by Harvey's and quot;geographically undesirableand quot; point of view so I decided to be and quot;hard nosedand quot; about it. I told him I had made the same trip he felt too far many times and it is not that far (his emailed conveyed that $150 for such a distance did not justify such a trip). Apparently Harvey found my irritability offensive and said he did not like my attitude so NOW he definitely would not make the trip because of it. Our call ended when he hung up on me. Anyway for those of you out there who have used Harvey and sing his praises he must do a good job which is why I wished to use him. However he should be and quot;demotedand quot; because he refuses to travel more than 15 minutes from his and quot;comfortand quot; zone which is just not user friendly. I find this to be somewhat of a misrepresentation of his services. I also chide Angie's list for not being more cognizant of this and offering a paid and quot;up frontand quot; deal from someone who will not honor it.

Harvey was the most helpful person I spoke to. After calling around to contractors, window companies, and other handy men, I finally got Harvey. Although he doesn't do the exact type of work I needed help with, he nonetheless took the time to call me back (even knowing from the voice mail I left him that he wouldn't be able to take the job) and give me some free consultative suggestions about the type of company I should be calling and about what the repair job might really entail. He also gave me the names of a few companies to try, gave me advice on how to price shop the job, and even volunteered to look at some pictures I had taken so he could further guide me in finding the right company . . . just to help me out. Rest assured that when I have a job that falls in the gambit of his expertise, I'll be going to Harvey. He's a guy I would trust and he deserves the trust of the Angie's List community.

There are several corners and angles. The job was completed in just a few hours, nicely finished. There was no mess, we were very pleased with the promptness, professionalism, detail and efficiency of the of the job.

They did a really good work and they came out when they said they would. Their price was cheap. We will use them again in the future.

I was very please with all the work completed. I have employed Harvey the Handyman to perform a variety of jobs at my residence since 2001. He and his technicians are always on time, professional, and a pleasure to deal with. His prices are very reasonable and they always clean up each day after they complete their work for the day.

It didn't - requested a lower estimate and he couldn't do it.

Brought Harvey in primarily to repair and update my bathroom. A tiled wall had suffered water damage and the bathroom vanity and vanity lighting needed replacing. Unlike another handy man, Harvey recommended replacing the wall rather than just patching the damaged areas. Harvey also replaced a wobbly ceiling fan and fixed minor problems with several interior doors. I provided paint, tiles and fixtures after discussing what was needed with Harvey. Harvey'd crew did a great job of replacing and tiling the bathroom wall, installing the light fixture and ceiling fan, painting the bathroom and fixing issues with several interior doors. The only problem I had with Harvey's work was the the installation of the new vanity, which is free standing on legs rather than going down to the floor. The work was delayed a month because Harvey was waiting for his team's plumber to be available. When the team arrived Harvey said he'd be doing the plumbing himself and was visibly dismayed to see the free standing vanity. Installing it presented technical issues that I believe were beyond his skill level. The vanity ended up a tad off center, with minor damage to the overflow trim and the pop up lift rod installed backwards (I later reinstalled it based on internet instructions). If it weren't for that one sour note, I would be able to give Harvey all A's.

workers were very professionel and kept the work area clean after all work was done the left the front of my house cleaner then when they arrived . i would use them again.
