I have been traveling for the last 20 years as a consultant where I travel with my animal. I had one of the worst experiences with the boarder called Paws and Claws located in Erie, PA. I picked up my animals and brought them home they both were diagnosed with Kennel Cough and one of the dogs had lost over 5lbs. The animals have been very timid and I am extremely upset with the service performed to date. I had to bring both animals to the Vet and spend over 380.00 dollars for Xrays and medicine. I would never board my animals at this facility. I am extremely upset and the animals are actually getting worse. They both are not eating or drinking. I would never recommend Paws and Claws to any one.
Response from PAWS 'N CLAWS PET RESORT
"We would not be in a business like ours if we did not love animals. We sincerely enjoy taking care of the pets that stay with us. We understand that pets are members of the family and we treat them as such while they are with us. We are very sensitive to the conditions of our guests. If any issues would have come about during the stay, the customer would have surely received a call. This particular customer called our Pet Resort on April 13th asking us to take her two dogs in over the Easter holiday because no one else in our area had any vacancies. Upon receipt of her dogs’ vaccine records, she was informed that the vaccines were expired and that they would need to be up-to-date before the dogs could be boarded with us. Our contract recommends that vaccines be given at least three days before boarding, but she had them done only two days prior - against our recommendation. As for the dogs being diagnosed with Kennel Cough, her Banfield Pet Hospital records state, very clearly, under the “Vaccine Reaction” section that, “Pets receiving the nose drop form of Bordetella (Kennel Cough) vaccination may experience a mild upper respiratory reaction approximately 5-7 days later. These pets may have a very mild sneeze or runny nose for 2-3 days.” She had the vaccinations done on April 15th and the dogs began exhibiting signs of an upper respiratory infection on April 22nd…exactly seven days after the vaccination was given - just as her vet paperwork states could happen. When she completed our Boarding Ticket she stated that she would be bringing ten cans of wet food to be mixed with the dry food that she brought since she insisted her dogs would not eat the dry food unless it was mixed with the wet food. When she arrived, she told us that she had forgotten the wet food at home and then purchased only four cans of food from us, which is not only less than what she originally felt she needed to bring, but also a different brand than what her dogs are accustomed to eating. Furthermore, the customer has stated that her one dog lost more than 5 lbs. during her stay with us. She requested three play sessions for each dog each day. This equates to 90+ minutes of exercise for each dog, each day. When asked for proof from her vet that the dog lost more than 5 lbs. during her stay, she said she couldn’t talk anymore and discontinued the phone call. In conclusion, we feel her dogs did not get kennel cough from our facility. Also, if her pet lost any weight, it was not because we weren’t caring for her pet. Her pets were well taken care of while here and, like all the pets in our care, received lots of attention and love."

I called on a Saturday and they gave me an appointment for the following Saturday. My toy poodle was bathed, groomed, and had his toe nails clipped. The girl who groomed him did an awesome job and I couldn't be happier. My husband and I hate when groomers give our toy poodle the and quot;poofand quot; on the top of the head, even though we always tells them not to they seem to anyway. This groomer did exactly what I requested! The great part is that the dogs don't sit all day in a kennel until the groomer gets to them. They give you a specific appointment time and it only took them 2 hours to give me a call to come get him. I do however think that the price was a little high. $47 for an 8 pound dog was a little high, I thought. I recently moved here from Pittsburgh and was only paying $30. However, they did specify that for difficult dogs there would be an extra charge and although they didn't come right out and say it, I'm sure my little guy got a bit difficult. He is 11 years old and can get grumpy, especially in a grooming salon that was unfamiliar for him and around unfamiliar people. I only saw the check in area but the building seemed very nice and the grounds were well kept and clean also.

We used Paws' N Claws for the first time recently. We were more than pleased with the quality of care our dog received. We have toured several different kennels and we were NEVER able to leave our dogs at any of them. When we went to Paws N Claws we felt comfortable leaving our dog for the weekend. They are very clean and provide a lot of love and attention for the dogs. They played with our dog everyday and were happy to talk to me about his progress when I called. We also had him groomed before we picked him up and he came home looking BEAUTIFUL! We are actually going to use them for grooming permanently!
