Auto Service
As an above average auto DIYer I usually try to fix things myself. I have done clutch jobs, replaced transmissions, engines, and most other automotive maintenance.
So, one day the "battery" light comes on. So I know this is the original battery that came with car when I bought it and I assume its bad. Wrong. Note to self - getting battery tested before buying another.
The tech at AdvanceAuto parts does a charging system test as say's there is no output from alternator. So I buy a "rebuilt" alternator and replace it...no easy task on a 96' SHO. Battery light is still on. AdvanceAuto says you may have got a bad alternator and suggests that a "new" (and more expensive) alternator may be a better option. So I return "rebuilt" alternator and install "new" alternator and the %$#& battery light is back on.
I recheck all my work and double check all the ground points and even add 2 additional grounds. The %&%$# battery light is still on.
So I replace the plug that goes into the alternator...this makes no difference.
So I replace the alternator cable...this makes no difference.
So I replace the ECU...this makes no difference.
I am at my friggin witts ends. I call my mechanic friend and he suggests call Expert Auto Electric. I speak with Mark who offers a couple things to try before bringing my car in ( a good sign in my book ), but none help my situation. I drop my car off at Expert Auto Electric knowing that they cannot look at my car until the next day.
I receive a call from Mark as promised and they were able to correctly diagnose problem and make repairs. My issue was shorted wire in the harness that tells the alternator to turn on.
Moral of the story...do not throw parts and money without a correct diagnosis and for auto electric issues see Expert Auto Electric...they truly are experts!
