We initially contacted Gleason to see if they did landscaping work. They sent Eric who we asked to lay out a design for our front beds, which are large as well as beds at the foot of our driveway. He did but put nothing on paper as he stated that drawings weren't his "thing" but that he could lay it out for us verbally. Well we needed a drawn out plan, which we got from someone else, and Eric said that he would follow it but seemed a bit offended that we did not use his ideas, which we refused to draw out. Well this was my first clue that he was no landscaper. However, we used a plan from an "actual" landscaper, and Eric insisted again that he would follow it. His price was better than the actual designer (another 'clue'), but my husband insisted on giving him the job as he liked him. Well the demo went fine, they showed up on time and honestly who can't tear out shrubs. The problem started with the actual design work and continued with the quality of shrubs, trees and grasses used, not to mention that Eric decided to use some of his "artistic" ability at the expense of our beds, without our consent or knowledge.
First off, because he didn't draw anything out nor evidently understand how to read a drawing his crew totally messed up the one bed at the foot of the driveway. We agreed on the size of stones to use in the beds and he "decided" to throw many larger and I mean LARGER stones in amongst the smaller stones as he thought they would look good. He NEVER proposed this idea to us, but this is a man who can't draw up a landscape plan so I would certainly not expect him to be adept enough to follow one, which clearly called for consistently sized small stones. He left "holes" where shrubs "should have" gone - but he ran out of our money (so he clearly could not bid a project either) and used boulders in place of some holes. Looked ridiculous, but he pushes boulders for landscaping. The mistake at the foot of the driveway - we had to pay to get him to fix even though it was his error. We "finished" the job ourselves and this is when (while shopping for shrubs/grasses) that we discovered the very poor quality of plants that he used not to mention that when we told him the types of grasses we wanted, (there are hundreds of varieties and a landscaper would specifically identify and recommend certain ones for certain areas, which our drawing showed, but he again used his discretion in choosing what he thought would look good, but we had to replace these as they did not. Poor, very poor.
