They were really easy to schedule an appointment with--so kudos for that! They were super fast, too, and clearly treated my kitten well. She gets anxious around dogs and doesn't like getting her nails clipped, but she was back to her usual spunky self as soon as they were finished! My only issue with this group is the way the technician handled the situation. She never introduced herself, or even said "hi, kitty" to my cat (which I realize sounds like an overreaction, but her whole demeanor seemed like she really didn't care much about the animal). She just whisked my cat away and said she'd bring her back in a minute. And while I realize I was only in for a nail clipping, I would've appreciated the opportunity to let her know my kitty gets anxious about getting her nails clipped. Plus, this was her first trip to get her nails done elsewhere, so I was a little anxious about making sure I chose the right place--I would've appreciated a little conversation, just to get the feel for how they were going to treat my cat. Overall, this is a great place. They're fast, easy to schedule with, and obviously treat the animals well. However, the brusqueness of some employees might be anxiety-inducing for first-time pet parents or anyone who wants to discuss a specific concern.

Our Chocolate Lab was hit by a car on a Saturday evening.

We made a phone call to our then vet, Dr. Dodsen, in an effort to bring our dog in for emergency care, only to find out after a lengthy phone message, that they did not offer their patients after hour emergency care. At one time they did, as we had to use them.

We were told by an their answering machine that we had two choices for emergency care, either down in Maryland or over in York, PA, neither of which we were familiar with. We drove over to York on a Saturday night, taking well over an hour and 15 minutes before we arrived. With all that time delay, our Ellie could not receive the help she needed. She had to be put down.

We are writing this review now, because this same message is still playing on their answering machine over two years later! Most of our friends who take their pets to this clinic, did not know that they do not provide emergency care services after hours!

Our pets are like family to us. We do not ever want to see another pet owner go through what we went through that night, especially when there are several vets right up in Dillsburg, Pa...less than 20 minutes away, that do provide emergency care services.

The doctor's response to us..."do we know how hard it is to get a vet to work on the weekends?"

Our response...then don't hire them!  You have 4 vets listed, that's one weekend a month to be "on call."

No one ever anticipates the need for these emergency services, or even thinks about it, until they need them.

A sign should be hanging in Dr. Dodsen's office that states this.

Having said this, the staff who works at Dr. Dodsen's, just the best! Unfortunately, we will not be back.

They were very kind, the vet did a thorough exam and then gave him a cortizone shot, plus some pain medication.

The price is much more reasonable then the place where I went before. That's the best thing about them. The service has been just as good. They have a wide range of hours when they are open. The experience has been good. Occasionally there is a little delay waiting.

There is about a handful of vets there. They do a fine job. They have a long history here in Harrisburg and they have always done a good job. They are competent good vets.

He is very good and I am pleased with his service. He did a very good job with my dog. He was very friendly and accurate. He is professional and knowledgeable. I would recommend him.

"I'm sorry we're not taking new patients." "But we used to bring our cats to you." "OK, you are not a new patient, let me get the book." Chaos reigns in the waiting room, but it's better than it was some years ago when there were no appointments. At least now you've got a time to show up with your pet rather than waiting several hours - there's still a wait but nothing like it used to be. If you don't like a lot of barking dogs, take your ear plugs, but if you want to visit and talk to other animal owners this is the place to go! You'll never know just what you'll see in the waiting room, but there are always dogs and cats. You'll not know which vet will see your pet, but they are all excellent. And the technicians really do like the animals. Our cat was examined, given needed shots, and stool checked in the lab in quick order. We left with one mad cat (shots hurt), medicine for some form of parasite, and an appointment for follow up shots a month later.
