The job was done pretty quickly after submitting the deposit and permit. They did my house and my neighbors at the same time and it was all done in two days. Looks great and they did a good clean up as well.

Awful. They before the day we had arranged; a day that I wasn't home. I didn't even know they had been there until my neighbor told me. The bill arrived promptly, and I paid it right away as is my nature. I later discovered what a lousy job was done; one of my down spouts was completely clogged with leaves. I called and didn't even get an apology let alone an offer to redo the work or refund my money. I had paid these guys top dollar because they had come recommended by a reliable source, but I was VERY DISAPPOINTED to say the least.

Excellent. Very good. Very professional, very fair in pricing. They were on time, came early, left late. Cleaned up after themselves each day until they are finished. They did a very nice job on the roof. Good customer service. I would recommend them.

We have a small Cape Cod. (930 sq. ft.) We needed the aging slate roof removed. The crew protected shrubs and trees and cleaned up well. We have had the new asphalt roof for 9 months. So far so good. I don't anticipate problems. There was one small area we were not happy with. We called K the day after. They listened to what we had to say and they came out and fixed it. So, we were pleased and thought they gave us a fair price for the job. The work crew were not Kunsman employees, but a subcontractor. K have used this guys for years. At first I was wary about this (because I did ask if the roofer were employees of Kunsman or a sub). But, Kunsman said that he had a good track record and they would vouch for him. They were right. He and his crew were great.

I had a very poor experience. There was no communication, dishonest practices in estimating and writing the contract, sloppy work, and no help from the office. I’ll run through our problems with the experience first, but please continue reading to find a timeline of events at the end. Communication The crews arrived at our property to begin work on unscheduled days with no communication from the company. The company never answered my complaint letters to begin a paper trail. After sending the letters and later follow-ups via certified mail, they answered. Before answering, they attempted to collect further payment by having their off-shore collection firm call my phone demanding I contact them. I received many invoices demanding payment while I was awaiting a response to my letters. Dishonest As described in the timeline below, our discussions revolved around re-grading the rear of our roof to avoid water standing. Upon receipt, I reviewed the contract (mistake! always hire a lawyer to review contracts) and found it enough for what we discussed - so I signed it. Later, the company claimed the contract said nothing requiring re-grading the roof to avoid standing water. The language, in hindsight, is ambiguous and inconsistent. Long story short, I’m out five-large and my roof still has standing water on it. I told the company it concerned me that the standing water remained in the same spot. They said the contract didn’t say they had to fix that, then brought a representative from the rubber manufacturer to assure me that standing water on the rubber material “should be fine”. The point is not whether it “should be fine” - I paid to have that section of the roof torn apart and re-graded to allow the water to run off, and I did not receive that. Sloppy Work My once-clean rear concrete patio is littered with debris from the roof teardown, the roofing cement adhering it to the patio. To protect my family’s feet, I had to find, then pick up the dozens of roofing nails dropped throughout our property (front and rear) and never retrieved. I walked around with a trash bag and picked up the dozens of cigarette butts left by the crew in my yard and on my patio, again - front and back of the property. When I went up on the roof to see the finished product, I saw an enormous caked-on stain of resin - someone knocked it over but instead of making any effort to clean it up, they left it there. Timeline We noticed a leak in our ceiling in early spring, 2018. Through a referral, an estimator from Alan Kunsman Roofing & Siding came out to assess the roof and decide the course of action. The flat roof had a poor design. Instead of being consistent, the roof angled up at the edge to funnel rainwater through an inadequate hole 1.5 inches in diameter. The estimator assured us the best resolution was to tear out the existing roof material and re-grade the back part of the roof. The water could then run off into the gutter instead of relying on a small hole that could get clogged which encouraged standing water. After examination, we added the front porch roof to the work order. I preferred to take action since we were expecting a child later that year and I needed a sound roof. They explained the weather needed to be above 50-55 Fahrenheit to begin work, so I submitted my deposit and they scheduled the work. In early June 2018, crews showed up and started work. The subsequent week, after taking pictures of still-standing water, we contacted our rep at Alan Kunsman and asked they fix it. Their crew appeared 2 weeks later unannounced (an admission of guilt) and tore out a section of the rubber roof before replacing it. There was no re-grading, though now 3-4 more seams need maintenance going forward. They sent the first invoice August 2018 (after no further reply to my standing water concerns) and thus began the saga of trying to get a response via certified mail. I offered what I felt to be a fair amount, given the amount of contracted work that was not completed - but this was rejected. Conclusion I recommend investing in a good lawyer to review your contract before you sign it. Keep a budget or set aside your own time to clean up the job site. And expect no communication or help from the company. I ended up paying the full amount since I wanted to be done with it - but please, don't make the same mistake I did. Look elsewhere.

Very professional. They were responsive for the initial quote. The workers that showed up were courteous and the work they did was very well done. They even fixed a problem that wasn't in the contract. I highly recommend them!!

We purchased a new home and met with several contractors to have repairs done to our roof and new gutters installed on our barn. We liked Chris Rahs with Alan Kunsman. He reviewed our home inspection report and came back with a summary of all the work needing to be done. Pricing seemed fair. He was very patient when we changed our mind about copper and went with aluminum. He made a special trip back out to see us when we wanted to be clear about drainage from the new gutters to ensure we wouldn't be creating any problems. We had two different crews...the gutter crew was quick and asked exactly how long we wanted the gutter extensions to be (we were having driveway work done and there was some question as to how we would handle it). The roofing crew was terrific. The lead was really sharp and explained everything and was patient when I made a color change on the flashing at the last minute. Scheduling was a little hairy due to the unending rain and then we pushed off a week because of our decision to install a driveway. All in all they were flexible and accommodating and did the job.

We agreed to have the job done, having never met the estimator. He turned up one day unannounced and sent us an estimate. I thought this was unusual but I understand that they are very busy and this saves them time. Kunsman knew we needed the job done by a certain date and they did it nice and early. (Maybe a 5 week wait, which was not bad at all). Mike, a subcontractor, and his crew worked over two days. They did a good job overall, were cordial and professional. They cleaned up after themselves . Once the job was over, we let Kunsman know we were not happy with one small area of the roof. Someone came to have a look, but said it was similar to other roofs on the street. We are still not happy so we wrote again (today) and are hoping they will resolve the issue to our satisfaction. If they do, I will change their overall rating to an A and I would change the answer from No to Yes to the "Would you hire again question". We paid right away, before this issue was resolved, because we had confidence in the Kunsman reputation to put things right. I will provide a follow up once I hear back from them. (UPDATE 07/26/2018) PS THe president of the company came out to have a look and said he would have someone come out and remedy the issue. He stated it was not something that would affect the durability of the roof, but he understood that we were not 100% satisfied (with this small.... 8 inch bit of asphalt). We are confident it will be dealt with appropriately, so are changing our review to all A's. I would like to add that Pat, the receptionist, is very helpful. She is a real asset to Kunsman Roofing. I would also like to say that Chris came yesterday and made good on the small area that had been a concern for us. So, all in all, we are very happy with our new Kunsman roof.

I was very disappointed. They came when I wasn't home, which was not the plan, and I discovered what a substandard job they did only after I had already paid the bill. They came highly recommended, so I was quite surprised at the poor quality of work. They left at least one downspout completely clogged with years worth of leaves (photo attached). I called and explained my concern and was told someone would get back to me, but no one did. I thought I was hiring professionals who would do a good job, but that was not my experience with Alan Kunsman Roofing & Siding.

The work was done in two stages. Stage 1 was the chimney work, which involved the demolition of the top 8' of weathered brick, removal of old/broken slates and old flashing. In reconstructing the chimney the exterior dimensions of the chimney were reduced by one course of bricks at the suggestion of the contractor, allowing rainwater to run past the chimney instead of around it. A total of only three days was required to install/remove scaffolding, demolition, carpentry, rebuilding, flashing and slate replacement and chimney liner installation. Stage 2 was the removal of all old & broken gutters and spouting around the entire house and installing larger, stronger gutters and spouting. Stage 2 also included the removal of the old asphalt shingle front porch roof and replacing with new tar paper and shingles. To prevent future ice damage to the gutters on the back porch heat cable was installed concurrent with the gutter work. All work was done in a most professional manner. Chimney crew was especially knowledgeable in slate work. Clean-up was quick and thorough. All employees were personable, courteous and professional. A lot of money, I know, but we got top-quality work.

There seems to be a lack of communication between me and them. I was told that they would contact me and show up but they just showed up. I didn't have any idea they were coming. If I wasn't home, what would have happened then? I got multiple estimates and they were in the ballpark. The quality was good but I wasn't up on the roof. They took pictures and showed me what they did. They were responsive. When I got a hold of somebody and I actually talked to them, they were responsive.

Scheduling was affected by weather but that is expected with this type of work. They arrived when scheduled and worked efficiently. Work was completed on time and as promised. Cleanup was great. Rain gutters and downspouts were completed separately and again on time and done in 1 day. There was a slight problem with the pitch of the gutters on the patio roof but the correction was completed immediately upon my notification to them. Very impressive!
