Carpet Installation, Window Treatment Service

See above for mini disaster with the carpeting.  With respect to blinds, a fairly large order for vertical blinds (2) ; 1 for a medium sized window and the second for across 3 sliding glass doors to a balcony.  THIS WAS A TOTAL FIASCO FROM BEGINNING TO END.  Estimator was supposedly very experienced but when HE ASKED ME about several  options for placing the blinds, he had no idea what the standard sizes were, so that if choice A would have saved me $150, he had no idea.  #1 - Either the salesperson or the estimator should have had the sheet available to give me that info. # 2 When the HD associate called me with estimate, SURPRISE !!, there's an extra charge for "oversized" lengths, not included in the price for that length on the chart she used for the estimate.    If a length is "oversized", that should be included in the column of the price.  # 3- After ordering the blinds and waiting, HD associate calls me to arrange delivery.  Turns out the installer doesn't deliver the blinds, I have to go and meet a SEPARATE DELIVERY COMPANY or pick them up myself at HD, the installer won't do that either.  I get to call the delivery company and arrange delivery.  #4- I call,  and the company tells me a day and that it will be sometime between 8 AM and 7 PM, but they can't tell me when; the driver makes that decision.  Great !!!!,  I live 20 miles away, and need to be in a vacant property with no phone, cable, internet or furniture from 8AM to 7PM. !!!!!  They tell me if I call the next morning at 7 AM, they will give me a 3 hour window.  #5- Call Delivery company at 7 AM, no answer, continue calling, no answer.  I drive to the empty rental unit and sit on the floor.  Finally, someone answers at 9 and tells me to call back after 10.  I call back at 10:30 and they tell me they have no way of telling me, it's up to the driver which way he goes, but he will call me 30 minutes before he gets there.  #6 - When the delivery guy gets there and looks at the height  of the building (12 stories), he asks if the blinds will fit in the elevator, because they come in a super-huge box.  DUH, do you think the ESTIMATOR, who rode up and down in the elevator with me might have thought of that.!!!!!!  #7 - So, we take apart the box and get it in the elevator, and all goes well.  #8 - Now I have to arrange for the installer to come back to install.  Another 20 mile trip each way for me.  #9 - Installer comes and goes OK.   #10- Three weeks after my tenant moves in, the blinds in her bedroom fall down on and nearly hit her on a Friday night.  I arrange for a handy man to re-install them on Saturday morning, so she can dress without adjacent apts getting a bird's eye view.  This costs me $60.00  After reporting this problem to Home Depot, I am underwhelmed at their nonchalant response. After about a week, the installer calls me and says he can't believe they fell down, "never happened before".  Still, no one has said they are sorry or ask was my tenant injured?  Contact installer, arrange new trip to the property, tell him my tenant is worried the large blinds will fall down as well.  Another day shot; installer shows up without a concrete drill, so he merely reviews the situation and quite cavalierly tells me that he installed them right and they shouldn't have fallen down.  Well, he installed them in the window frame and the window frame wouldn't support the weight so they fell down.  A totally wasted trip, why didn't he bring the concrete drill.?  HD finally orders new valance to replace the one broken in the collapse, this takes 6 -8 weeks, then they call me wanting to know if it was delivered to me, NOOO, don't you know where it is?  I complained to HD corporate HQ in Atlanta, all they did was ship my complaint to the same incompetent people in Pa. 4 more weeks and the blinds are finally reinstalled.  I had submitted to HD early in the process a bill for my handyman, $60.00 and I asked for a refund including the $60.00 I was out of pocket for the carpet "estimate" and to compensate me for my time and for my troubles.  I was promised a total of $250.00, wow, could they spare it?  I think that works out to $1.00 an hour, and since I'm self employed, that's not much compensation.  But, of course, I never received this promised refund.   So, in my opinion, the sales people were misleading, the installer was incompetent and had a snarky attitude, they subcontract every step of the process with no regard for the time and inconvenience of the customer  and I would never order anything like this (Home Improvement services, bathroom, kitchens, etc ) from them again.

I was reluctant to go to Home Depot for carpeting, but my wife's sister in Chicago had a good experience with them so we decided to try them for just one room.  They exceeded my expectations in every way.  Their selection runs the gamut of low grade to high grade products and we selected one of their best grades of carpet and padding, for a price that was pretty reasonable compared to what I've seen elsewhere.  They sold a small sample swatch of the carpet online for $9, which is refunded for as many samples as you buy if you ultimately make a purchase with them.  I could have done the whole transaction online, but chose to go to the store to place my order.  The whole process at the store took about 20 minutes and I was able to see and choose the padding I wanted.  They placed the order and their measuring service called me two days later, as promised, to schedule a measuring.  The measurer was on time, very thorough, and took about 15 minutes.  The carpet was ordered once I approved the priced out invoice based upon the final measurement and including all installation costs.  The carpet I selected was special order, and so it arrived at their warehouse about 5 days later.  That same day, the installer called to schedule installation.  About 5 days later the installers came, as scheduled, and did the whole job in maybe an hour and a half.  They were very meticulous, hauled away all of the old carpeting and waste, and then cleaned up and vacuumed the entire work area.  I couldnt have been more pleased and will use them for a few other rooms when ready.

Home Depot charges $35 to send an outside company to measure which is then credited on your purchase IF you choose to go with Home Depot for your flooring. Then you recieve an email and daily calls until you actually connect with someone at "MeasureComp" to go over your schematic.  You then have to go to home depot to choose your carpet. The Home Depot Employees will assist you in choosing your product and giving you the SKU number. You then have to again contact Measure Comp to obtain an actual estimate. They will then contact you daily until you make a decision. Once the Order is processed you will be contacted by another outside vendor to install your flooring.  This is where OUR problem was. The installers sent 2 men to my home who spoke very minimal English and they did a sub par job. This company  prompts you that they expect to get "10's on their customer reviews and "8's are not Great" yet they dont get the job done right or well the first time.  The tack tracking they put down at the edges of the floow came through my carpeting. and the stairs (that arent included in the cost of a whole house install) were not done well. There was also an area of flooring that was done crooked.  Its a very unpolished half a$$ed job.  I contacted the install company to have these things taken care of and they sent the same guys who went on to tell me I needed to buy better carpet. When I contacted the Install manager, I was told I purchased low grade thin carpet and that the tacks would stick through the carpet. if they would bang down all the tacks they wouldnt hold the carpet in place. So now I have to walk around with shoes on to ensure I dont step somewhere that I will get stabbed in the foot. All in All the people at the actual Home Depot have been nice and have done what they can, but unfortunately on a corporate level, they outsource these projects to companies who really dont care, and hire people who dont care either. I wouldnt ever go through this process again.

They took the old roof off(down to the wood) and laid new material. They used premium materials with a 12 year guarantee. The only problem that I had was that they didn't put the down spouts back up after they took them off.
