.On the original service call, the technician identified a short in a wire and a bad transformer which he repaired for $110, plus $90 for labor and $25 for a trip charge; not bad. He found the refrigerant very low, and filled 8lbs for $240. My wife was home when he serviced it, and by the time I got home and turned it on it didn't seem to blow very cold air, but we had just bought the house in the fall and wasn't used to how cold the air blew. After a couple weeks I just wasn't convinced, so I called them back. Another service tech said that we must have a bad leak, they weren't allowed by law to recharge it again, and all they could do is sell us a new unit. This seemed a little too convenient for
I called a second company for another opinion, and they immediately noticed the service caps (think valve stem caps on tires) were left off; a safeguard against leaking. I was with him this time, and could audibly hear the hissing coming from the fill valves, which are just like the air valves in your tire valve stems. He charged up the system and spent over an hour with a refrigerant leak detector going over every square inch of the system and couldn't find any measurable leaks. The unit blows COLD air, and cools the house down in minutes.
I called Flourtown HVAC back to let them know I was dissatisfied that they missed this on TWO service calls and I had to pay for this refrigerant twice do to their negligence, and I got no apology, just a defensive "I can tell you right now we're not going to eat the cost of that refrigerant". I guess they expect their customers to pay for their mistakes. Terrible.

They spent considerable time before we hired them checking things out and considering various possibilities and configurations, whether it was conventional or high velocity, one whole house system or two. The other folks who gave us an estimate (which was much more money) only wanted to give us what they wanted to do, not what we requested. We had already had experience installing central air in our previous home and were pretty clear about what we wanted.
We agreed on a start date and they were able to start several days earlier. They were punctual, neat and easy to have around the house. They installed two systems with ductwork and vents. We were given detailed instruction on how to operate the thermostats which are smarter than I am. They also checked the heating system to make sure it was functioning (we moved in this summer and hadn't turned it on.)

We contacted 6 companies for quotes. Flourtown initially declined to even give a quote since they were booked for a few weeks out and we planned to have it done pretty quickly. However, they provided a ballpark quote over the phone. The ballpark quote was a lot less than any other quote that we received, so we contacted Floutown to come out and give a complete estimate. It was difficult to schedule that estimate. (Hence the B on responsiveness, which probably could have even been a C... I called multiple times trying to get the estimate scheduled. Responsiveness was great while the work was going on and after Tom gave me his cell phone number.). However, I already knew they were busy. After visiting the property, their estimate came in considerably higher than the ballpark estimate, but still less than any other estimtae, and it was with better equipment. The work was completed in 4 days, as predicted. The workers were very friendly, considerate, and the work was as little of an interruption to life as could be expected, considering the extent of the work. They reported for work exactly on time and finished the work exactly in the predited timeframe. I considered giving a B on punctuality due to arriving late for estimates/appointment, but he did call ahead to let us know he'd be late, so it wasn't a big deal. We would happily use Flourtown again.

Everything went perfectly. Tom had all he needed with him and took away all debris as well as the old system without any extra cost.

We were told that the furnace might only last another season if we replaced the two parts that were broken, and that would cost a at least $600. The owner of the company spent a long time talking with my husband after inspecting the furnace. He was very honest and gave us his professional opinion that it would be better to replace the furnace. They quoted us $2700 for the furnace, at least a thousand less than another company that came out the previous week. The owner said he could start the following week but had a cancellation on Monday so they came earlier than scheduled. On the day of the installation, the owner's son came out with another worker and they put in the entire furnace within one working day. They were punctual, professional and very efficient. When the job was done, the owner's son explained the thermostat to me in detail. I was very impressed with this company's service and expertise! I highly recommend them to anyone who needs heating/cooling work done.
