It took quite a few calls to get the contractor to come out after initial estimate and contract signing.  Only when I called and left a message that I wanted to cancel the job, did they show up.  Against my better judgment, I let them proceed.  The steps were put in first and I wasn't crazy about how they did it. (Design and lack of expansion joint doubts).  They installed the Versa-Loc wall next, looked OK at first.  The concrete driveway was finished next, but they underestimated the amount of mix required from the truck, and had to hand-mix the last pad.  I immediately questioned that decision before they continued, and they assured me that it would be exactly the same as the rest of the driveway in appearance and durability. *After the first winter, and I did seal everything as instructed, with the same chemicals that they recommended, the walk had two major cracks in it and the hand-mixed pad started showing signs of scaling. The rest of the driveway had numerous spots where the pebbles popped out, leaving little pock-marks all over the driveway.  As you would expect, the scaling and finish of the driveway is deteriorating, more than expected on a less than four-year old concrete job. The wall is leaning out over the driveway now and will need torn apart and re-aligned-not something that a Versa-Loc wall is supposed to need.  In summary, I feel that I wasted my money on this job and if I could afford it, would have SOMEONE ELSE start over.  I'm extremely disappointed in the results of the work of this contractor. UPDATE:  I took part of the wall apart to see if the contractor used the nylon pins as he should have for the Versa-Loc wall.  There were none!  The adhesive used on the top course was also not done as it should have been.  It appears that they used liquid nails.  I tried to send a letter to the contractor via certified mail, and it was returned to me by the post office, as the forwarding order had expired.  It appears that this contractor is out of business.  If my case was representative of their normal work, it's not surprising that they would be out of business.
