Never provided an official estimate or any follow up at all. We were told they took pictures and would put together an official estimate for work needed. Never happened, zero contact after initial 10 minute $129 visit. Also, did not follow local mask mandate and could not work the fireplace flue, which is not difficult to operate.

As my grading above indicates, generally this job went well. I almost chose overall "B" only because there was a long, long gap in time between the time crew came out to perform measurements, and the time we finally got the estimate. Even the initial crew suggested that I keep calling about the estimate before he drove off... and so I did. My advice is to be persistent and build this gap of time into your project's schedule. Other than that, everything else was fabulous.

Chimney was inspected and found a problem with the hot water tank exhaust. The exhaust pipe was rerouted and is working properly. Thank you!

I had an HVAC company try to install the flu liner and they were unable and suggested I call a professional chimney expert.  I found Black Knight and gave them a call.  Over the phone Zach explained the options I had and patiently answered all of my questions.  We scheduled him to come out for an inspection.  When he and his partner arrived, they checked out the issue with the furnace flu and also did a detailed inspection of the chimney and explained some of our shorter and longer term issues.  We agreed on a course of action and Zach provided a detailed estimate for the work to be done.
The only trouble I had was that due to the time of year and how busy they are it took a little longer to get the appointment for repairs than I would have liked. However, Kelly who runs the office is extremely helpful and understanding on the phone and was able to get us booked in before winter.
When the repairs were eventually made, the work was done with utmost professionalism. I've been very impressed by Zach and his crew for their honesty and attention to detail.
Due to the construction of our chimney it was extremely difficult to install the flu liner. Zach and I had discussed this and decided to try anyway. What would normally be a 1hr job took 3 1/2 hours. Instead of throwing in the towel and telling me to go for a more expensive option (like the HVAC guys did), Zach and his crew patiently and carefully installed the liner inch by inch.
Everyone I've encountered at Black Knight has been knowledgeable, professional, and courteous. I will definitely be using them again to address some longer term issues with my chimney.

We have used black knight for 3  years and really loved them, and this year i emailed to schedule for a sweep. The appointment was scheduled and then my husband noticed we noticed we had cracks in our chimney so of course we called black Knight since this is who we have used for past years. I emailed to advise kelly we had cracks etc. I sent in photos first of what the side of the chimney looked like beforehand (still needed photos of the crown).  They were responsive and got us an earlier appointment than scheduled, which was much appreciated due to our need of a repair. The guys came out and did a great job on the sweep as usual (quick, clean, neat and friendly) and took photos of the top of the crown to show to the owner, however a month later and still no estimate. Our crown has cracks, also the stone and the mortar. I inquired several times by email and my husband also by phone. the phone call we were told we should have it soon. We requested a temporary solution estimate and a permanent estimate.  Since we are unfamiliar with this process we wanted to have some options due to cost. When I didn't hear from anyone i sent emails.(due to my work its better to email when possible) two emails went unanswered, the third I sent We were told the owner of the company is busy and he is the one that does the estimates and the message would be relayed we were anxiously awaiting our estimate. That was 2 weeks ago (overall about a month total). our chimney is high and the one side is difficult to reach or maneuver for repair, so i don't know if this plays a factor in wanting to do the work or not. So now the weather is changing and no estimate or repair. We can't risk further damage, cracks moisture etc. since we heat with wood. Unfortunately we will have to try to use another business in hopes to get this repaired before another cold winter, as we cannot wait any longer and use another business moving forward for sweeps.

We had our chimney lined in 1992.  We have burned wood in it every winter since then.  It was fine for 23 years.  This past winter we had an amazing chimney fire. No damage to the interior of our home.  The fire department put it out.
Zach from Black Knight came out and determined that the lining had failed. Zach is very knowledgeable on all the pros and cons and gave us all the information so we could make a decision. If we wanted to burn wood again that would require tearing down the chimney and rebuilding the entire thing. Uh, no. If he relined it then we could have gas logs. Yes! Our decision was not based on price. The insurance company was paying and willing to return it to a wood burning fireplace (much more expensive). We chose gas logs because we found a set big enough for the large fireplace, they could be used with our new/existing glass doors, and we were tired of carrying firewood in all winter.
Zach completed the work in a week. We waited all summer to do the work because of our schedule - not his. He came after we went to work and was gone by the time we returned each day. There was barely a sign he had been there. They were very clean and neat. The cost included the gas logs and installation. We now have a beautiful fireplace again.
We have two other chimney's and we continue to use Black Knight to maintain them. We highly recommend them!

BK were very good - they cleared and lined the vent to allow us to start using our new hot water heater. Kelly who mans the phones in the office was very responsive and very sympathetic to our problem - she truly wanted to get our hot water tank up and running. She moved things around in Zach's schedule and he was able to come out within 2 days of us first making the call. Zach was punctual, professional and trustworthy and offered good advice on other aspects of our house. The work only just got done, but the quality looks great. Thanks BK!

Zach Purvis inspected the chimney and indicated no cleaning was required. They ground out the bad joints at the top of the chimney and repointed them. The crack on the back of the chimney was ground and repointed as well. The crack running down the face was patched with crack magic clear sealant. The bad joints were ground and repointed. The corbelled out course of brick had a ledge mortared onto the top of it to stop the water from laying on the flat surface. The crown was cleaned and all cracks were silicone. The existing cap was replaced with a stainless steel cap to prevent rusting.
